11 Signs You're An Indigo
If you resonate with most or all of these common indigo traits, chances are you are one! Only you can know for sure!
1. A Deep Seeded Feeling of Not Belonging Here. We are not talking about a teenage angsty feeling of being out of place or a situational discomfort. Here we are talking about something deeply ingrained into our psyche that no matter how popular, successful, or accepted we are that we still feel out of place. It is feeling like we are born into a foreign world that does not understand us and no matter how much we adapt to our surroundings, we never quite feel like we can completely relate to this society or our peers on a fundamental level. We are inherently different and we feel it from our earliest memories as a child into adulthood. Many of us have always felt old beyond our years. As a result of this, even though everything in our lives could seem wonderful to the outside world, indigos wrestle with deep, unexplained senses of alienation, separation, and aloneness.
2. Driven To Purpose. Again, from our earliest childhood memories we KNOW that we are here for a purpose. Through our formative, teen and young adult years when it may not yet be clear to us what that purpose is, it does not matter, we still sense it in every fiber of our being that we are special and that we have something very important to do within our lifetime. We carry ourselves with an indelible air of integrity that others can readily see, feel, and quite frankly sometimes be put off by. This almost ‘royal’ presence can often leave people feeling intimidated or thinking that we think we are better than others. The fact is that indigos can not be told what is true or just because we are the very bringers of truth and justice.
3. Free Spirits. We have a strong distaste for authority, the corporate world, government, and rigid social structures; especially if they do not make sense to us, are not mentally expansive, or if they are lacking in creativity. As a result, most indigos seek alternative methods of making a living. We can not be contained. We don’t just ‘think outside the box’, to us there is no box. This sense of freedom that we crave makes the 9-5 unbearable and typically we opt for a more solitary, self-styled type of work. (i.e. entrepreneurs, business owners, public figures, artists, actors, writers, etc.) We have a strong sense of duty to bring change or betterment to mankind, so many also make careers as advocates for social or environmental justice.
4. Ancient Wisdom and Knowing of Truth. We are psychic. We are drawn to ancient cultures and possess clairvoyant knowledge and unexplained understanding of ancient lifestyles, traditions, and practices. So much so, that many of us feel that we once lived among those ancient societies. We also have the inherent ability to know truth. If something is tactfully left unspoken in a conversation we know within ourselves that something is missing and often times we may hear the unspoken words as thoughts in our mind. When we are lied to, we don’t just know it, we literally feel it in our core or solar plexus chakra as a tightening sensation or sometimes a sick feeling. However, not only do we know the truth, we also speak the truth no matter how uncomfortable it may be at times. We are truth.
5. Oneness and Nothingness. We feel a deep sense of interconnectedness with every living thing; people, animals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, insects, plants, organisms, planet Earth, the air we breathe, the cosmos, other realms of consciousness, past/present/future, the kitchen sink, all of time and space. :) We are clairsentient and feel the imbalances and disconnects all around us. We know that all things are energy manifested in different forms and in that all energy is interchangeable. Even before we are able to identify it as such or come to this realization, we have a strong awareness of energy and often feel as though we are so connected that we are telekenetic and perhaps are. This sense of oneness lends itself to the sense of nothingness because we are deeply aware of continuity in all things therefore we understand that this is but one finite moment in time, on this earth, in this realm. We are a tiny specs of star dust, nothing, but at the same time as infinite and limitless as all of creation.
6. Fearlessness. We truly are fearless. Here I don’t mean that we never experience fears but that when it comes to facing, embracing, challenging, teaching, or starting things we are like warriors! :) Tell us we can’t do something and watch what happens … it’s like pouring gasoline onto an open fire! We will not only accept that challenge with a grin, but we will raise the stakes even further out of our favor because we know that there is nothing that we can not do with the right amount of focus and determination.
7. Intense Focus and Boredom. These two traits go hand and glove. We possess unusual ability to focus intensely on something that inspires us; yet, we become very easily and recklessly bored if uninspired. These are particularly tough traits for the young indigo who hasn’t found their niche yet and unchecked they can cause behavioral problems, substance abuse, and restless acting out due to sheer boredom. This is also the reason why so many indigo children are diagnosed with mental disorders like ADD or ADHD. Adults are definitely not immune either. We learn to manage this a little better with experience but still can fall prey to our boredom and we indigos tend to like our drugs and alcohol when we are out of sorts. This is something we can wrestle with always so it is important for us to find our calling and stay current and in alignment with our interests. It will be relatively clear what that calling is with a quick check of the indigos astrological birth chart. We have very specific configurations in our charts. We typically will have many conjunctions and/or a stellium (cluster of 3 or more planets) which indicate areas of intense focus (this is where we should focus our efforts) and most or all of our planets are contained within only 6 of the 12 zodiac houses and are all to one side of the zodiac leaving the other side empty. There are sites that offer free natal charts, go take a look at yours!
8. Peaceful and Angry. Now isn’t this a dichotomy! Yet, we are both peaceful and angry souls. We are all about peace throughout the world and beyond. We yearn for a society of no wars or injustices, a world of complete oneness, unity, and peace. We are willing to do our part to that end; however, when things are not this way, don’t go as we envision, or when we are inspired into action against injustice … LOOK OUT! We have presence, focus, cunning wit, intensity, sharp intellect, fearlessness, purpose, wisdom, and truth in our corner. Our tongues can turn into devastating whips. If you have an indigo in your life, it is really best to come to an understanding about them and accept who they are because you can be assured that these traits will not ever change; they may lessen or become more tempered in time, but this is innately who they are. Here’s a tip from an indigo … do not go head to head, take a round about approach and appeal to their sense of fairness or reason in a loving way. :) We are ALL about love.
9. Deep Thinking and Sensitivity. We are such deep thinkers that when we tackle a subject, we don’t just see the surface of the issue, we see all the dark layers and complexities involved. We think in a profound way and look for solutions that will truly make positive changes for mankind. As a result of this we have a tendency to get lost in our work or causes because we really give 100% of ourselves. So, when we are met with criticism, we are very sensitive to that because nobody puts more thought, consideration, and self sacrifice into something than we do. For this reason it is likely that you will witness that indigo temper when casting judgement or giving them criticism.
10. Unequaled Unique Love. When you wrap all of the traits above into a love, it is a love unlike any other. We love so deeply, intensely, completely, and all encompassing that we tend to scare the hell out of our partners. We are just too intense for them. They can not reciprocate to us the kind of pure love that we give to them; not because they do not want to, but simply because they do not understand it or know how to. It is not their fault, it is not our fault, it simply is what it is. This is a very hard lesson we indigos have to learn, typically through failed relationship after failed relationship. We can not understand how partners do not love with the same depth, intensity, purity, and fearlessness that we do; and here’s the thing, we absolutely need that type of love in return to be happy. The good news is that we can have it; but only with another indigo. You will know another indigo when you’ve found them, you will relate on every level and you will also raise each other’s vibrational frequency. When indigos connect with one another, we get a 'high’ or 'buzz’ from the rise in frequency; romantic or not. and it feels quite awesome! :) Try to spend as much time as you can around other indigos, we help to center each other and raise the frequency.
11. You Know You Are An Indigo. Last but not least, even if this is the very first time you’ve ever heard the word indigo, if you are an indigo, you absolutely, unquestionably will know now and forever what you are. It will feel like someone just told you that you have a whole bunch of sisters and brothers out there that you never knew existed. Smile, you are not alone!
