Happy pride month to these fuckers
have these shitty thumbnails i dont know if i'll ever get off my ass to make anything out of
things i have seen in rvb that i have never seen in any other piece of internet media:
an intellectually disabled main character with agency who's treated like a human being and not a prop to teach a lesson
female characters who are allowed to be just as crass as the male characters
a straight ship made up of "i hate my girlfriend" jokes slowly developing into a compelling examination of grief and learning to let go that made me get emotional by the end
a well handled and fascinating depiction of a traumagenic did system
the military being depicted as not just a corrupt system that dehumanizes groups of people and places them on arbitrary sides, brainwashes people into thinking that they're fighting for the greater good while the government sacrifices lives for personal gain and profit, but also as incompetent and pathetic with those in power being shown as manchildren only acting for their own selfish desires
the lead singer of the barenaked ladies secretly being an evil sociopath
a male human character giving birth to a sangheili alien
a tomboy robot beating the shit out of three men with real firearms in paintball
welcome to team blue, ya dork
Grimmons like shapes
thinking about red vs blue is crazy because it's like:
this is a story about how you can't keep chasing ghosts forever. there's alien/human mpreg.
holding onto the past is holding you back - you have to learn to let go and say goodbye. ed robertson from the barenaked ladies plays a guy who (jokingly?) tells his soldiers that if he weren't their CO he'd make them call him daddy.
family isn't always defined by appearances and you may find it in those you least expect. the aliens speak entirely in blargs and honks.
everything we do is driven by love - love for your current companions and loves that have been lost along the way. it has one of the most intense and longest running queer-baits i've ever personally witnessed.
veterans aren't given the proper support to be able to return to a civilian life, and this systemic issue causes problems for everyone in all levels of society. there's a homophobic bomb.
you can't change what's happened to you and the ones you love; you just have to find a way to keep moving forward. one of the main characters only speaks in poorly translated spanish.
everyone has the capacity to change and be better. it has one of the most convoluted and complicated time travel plots i have ever seen.
it's an incredible piece of media and proof that you can create something incredible with the limited tools available to you. there are chunks of it that are borderline unwatchable.
it's changed the way I approach storytelling forever. i can't easily recommend it to pretty much anyone.
The passion put into the voice acting is excellent. And it has to be because you don't see any of the main character's faces until at least season 9.
The show opens up with a philosophical question of what is the meaning of life and why are we here, and themes of life and death underline the series. For the characters however, who lives, who dies, and who comes back from the dead is always determined by what is the funniest commitment to the bit.
Bow ChickA BoW Wow
you need to be grimmons-maxxing. you need to be bickering like an old married couple in a box canyon in the middle of nowhere. you need to be sharing organs after getting ran over by a talking tank. you need to be getting locked in a closet together during a planet-wide alien sex pollen orgy. you need to refuse to talk about said planet-wide alien sex pollen orgy and said closet. you need to be the only person in each other’s heads. you need to pretend you want the other one dead but be genuinely devastated when you think he fell off a cliff. you should share a toothbrush. go to weddings together and eat the entire cake. carve your initials into trees. play split screen games together. be forced proximity roommates. meet in basic training and watch a guy die together. you need to be heartbroken when he defects. you need to be the only one who tries to convince him to come back because it’s “not the same without him.” you need to be asking “what are we on, a date?” when he sits next to you in the warthog. you need to be (not so) secretly in love with your best friend. you need to be grimmons-maxxing.

i am dying on this hill
Dick Simmons is such a character. One time he suspected his boss/millitary commander/adoptive dad liked a wrench slightly more than him, so he stole a tank and tried to blow up his own house.
Really funny to me whenever artists give Wash grey hair, because if you think about it he's gotta be like...thirty, max. I'm not complaining though, because his ass would definitely be going grey at thirty.
me talking about tex with my friend who hasnt finished season 1 yet
