âCapital FM: What was the impression you had of each of the boys when you first got put together? Do you remember that day where you were just, like, âOh, here we goâ Liam: Well, I mean, at firstâŚI donât know why it was so confusing to me that Niall was from Ireland. âCause I was just thinking âHowâs this gonna work?â Heâs from, like, this whole other country, heâs not even from nearby. How is this gonna happen? And then I remember we had a conversation straight off the bat, it was like, we decided that we would measure each otherâs heights because thatâs the way it would be in photographs - who would be in the middle. I mean, itâs just like, we were so young, though, yâknow what I mean? You donât think everything at the time, but, yâknow, when we very first got together and went down to Harryâs house to rehearse, we hadnât really got the heart to tell each other who should sing what bit, or making, like, cut-throat decisions, because everyoneâs trying to find their place. So we all used to sing in unison which was the most horrible thing Iâve ever heard in my life. But, yeah, it was crazy to be involved in this group of really rowdy boys. For me, Iâd never really had that many, like, loudâŚlike, all my mates are quite quiet, but then, like, get Louis and Zayn together in a room, and it just used to go off all the time. Weâd be in a hotel room and plates are being thrown out the window, and mattresses being thrown down the stairs, yâknow, and it was really a crazy, crazy time and a lot to get used to. And for my head, at least, I was a bit too grown-up in that sense. I needed to kind of âgrown downâ and just have a little bit of fun, because thatâs what it was all about. And in the end, thatâs what everybody, yâknow, tied in with the band. It was more about this freeâŚ.this freedom and having fun and like âWhat would you do if you were in this position?â sort of thing.â
