it’s not a myth. it gets easier. every bit of hard work is worth something. it builds you up.

forgive yourself for trusting the wrong people. forgive yourself for giving them your time and energy. you didn’t know then what you know now.
put me on your to-do list
i know everyone loves baby seals, but sometimes i really am blown away by their whimsy. they took a teddy bear and made it a mermaid. i feel very wonderful knowing we live on the same planet as puppy mermaid teddies

Even if you were a difficult child, you didn't deserve to be hurt.
I hope this message reaches all the neurodiverse and disabled people who were made to feel like their abuse was justified because they had "behaviors".
While this message is true for every child, you are who I had in mind when I wrote it.
…psychiatry assumes that society does not cause distress in biologically normal people, who are considered biologically normal at least in part because they are economically productive. This assumption permits the conclusion that if a person is distressed to the point of unproductivity, it is because that person—not society—is abnormal. Thus, psychiatry’s commitment to biological essentialism not only masks the role of the constructed sociopolitical environment in creating distress but depoliticizes it by characterizing that allegedly irrational distress as induced by biological abnormality.
– Kiera Lyons, “The Neurodiversity Paradigm and Abolition of Psychiatric Incarceration” (2023)
if you have recently found someone who turned out to not be right for you, remember:
you deserve someone who will make you happy
you deserve someone who doesn’t make you question if you’re their priority
you deserve someone who listens
you deserve someone who validates your feelings
you deserve someone who loves you just as much as you love them
you deserve someone who makes time for you
you deserve someone who gushes about you
you deserve someone who makes sure you know they enjoy spending time with you
you deserve someone who makes you laugh on your worst days
you deserve someone who makes you go to bed with a smile on your face, not tears in your eyes
you deserve someone who doesn’t make you worry you might say the wrong thing
you deserve someone who is willing to drop everything to comfort you on a really bad day
you deserve someone who pays attention to the little things you like and dislike
you deserve someone who gets you
you deserve someone who sees a future with you
you deserve someone who appreciates you
you deserve better
get it done the weird way. do it in parts. do it “wrong”. do it “late”. do it scared. it’s just better to do it differently than everyone else rather than never do it.
Say it with me: I don’t want chemistry that costs me my nervous system.
