That's because the apes have no idea what the fuck sign language is. It's just not a thing with them. They don't understand it, they just mimic what people want them to say. But that doesn't mean that they understand anything. It's like a parrot. A parrot can mimic what the hell the person's telling them, as long as they get enough input, and, oh yeah, okay, I keep saying this, they keep giving me a treat, or they keep giving me positive reinforcement. Parrot has no goddamn idea what the fuck's going on with it.
