We are a collection of the people we have loved and who have loved us. The things we create with them and learn from them may rub off on us or stick to us; we then carry this piece of them with us as we continue on within our own lives. We then go on to meet new people and the process repeats. You're then sharing a piece of yourself and this person you love/have loved prior in exchange for a portion of this new person. Even if this person leaves your life, or passes, or there is a falling out between the two of you; there is still this bond that is carried on in our memories. The most beautiful part of this idea is that you can continue loving this person despite the amount pain that could be potentially experienced by their departure from your life. Revisiting these memories and experiences with these people can allow us to reflect and continue to learn from what has happened. This can assist us and guide us to make better choices in the future and allow us to grow as individuals.
How we show up in love is important as well. Showing love through small actions and moments of true intimacy. Remembering small details about each other and creating a safe space to be authentically and unapologetically our own true selves creates this deep rooted bond that is unbreakable even through heartbreak and loss. Creating these moments and memories that are shared amongst one another.
Being single has been eye opening and has allowed me to both find myself and also learn to love myself more than I ever have before.
