Freya smirked but let the topic of swimming go, she herself would rather ride the Nokk over the water than be in it itself, but she didn’t judge her sister’s preferences. “I’m sure she could, I’ve never tried it myself but I’d love to learn too. I always wondered if her magic replaced the clothes or just altered them…” she trailed off in thought. “I think mother’s only done blue and white, but I’m sure you could try for pink. I don’t know if it will work, but you could try. That would especially come in handy for formal events, I always want a sheer shimmering cape on my outfits.” 

“it would also make packing far less strenuous and heavy if i didn’t need to decide what clothes to bring and didn’t have to limit my options.” to say maren had a lot of clothes was an understatement. and the only thing worse than her clothing obsession was her inability to make choices when it came to said clothing. “of course you want a cape, you always want a cape.”

Freya hardly had time to register what was happening before her sister was sitting on her and putting a list in her face. She laughed, she was used to this of course, and tried to calm Maren down. “Woah, one at a time please. I suppose we leave when classes finish? And come back a day before they start again? I was hoping to spend as much time as possible with mom,” she pointed out. She took a second to try and remember the next questions. “Well, I could write mom and ask her to send the Nokk? It’s a bit more comfortable than a reindeer, and faster with the whole walking on water aspect…” Freya smiled and shook her head. “Maren, it’s winter, why would we need bathing suits? And as for the castle, probably for half the trip. Mom will want to have the whole family together, but I’d really like to go up north and see home too.”

as freya spoke maren laid down on her back across freya’s lap, scribbling away on the paper.  “Nokk, yes, good idea,” she hummed, still scribbling, until freya asked why she’d need a bathing suit. she paused, looking at her sister like she was crazy. “for swimming... duh.” she tapped her chin with the pen. “do you think mom could teach me the dress thing? it would save money if i could just do it myself. but then it would have to be blue, right? or white. what if i want pink? how does that work?”

“Hmm. That is a pickle.” Seola moved towards the entrance of the fitting room, surveying the hill of clothing inside. Tapping her chin, she turned back to Maren. “I could help you if you’d like. We could do a little fashion show? Maybe a second opinion will help you narrow it down?”

maren beamed, clasping her hands together. “a fashion show, now that’s  something i could get behind!” she looked back and forth between seola and the pile. “are you sure you have that kind of time though? i know it’s a busy time of year and you probably have way more important things you could be doing.”

maren practically spun her way to where her sister was, holding a very long sheet of paper. “freeyyyyaaaaa,” she sang, twirling into her sister’s lap. “i need answers,” she demanded, dramatically holding up the paper in her hand and then pulling it to her face and reading off her list of questions. “when are we leaving? how long will we be staying? are we how are we getting there? do i need to ride a reindeer again because that really hurts my butt and i would prefer not to? will we be sleeping in the castle? do i need to bring a bathing suit?” she paused to take in a breath and tilted her head. ”actually, scratch that last one, i think mom can just-” she waved her free hand around spastically, “make me one if i need it. better yet, maybe i should leave all of my clothes here and mom can just teach me how she does-” she waved her hand again, “that.”

“I don’t believe so, no.” Seola took a step closer to Maren, eyeing the skirt of the dress carefully as if inspecting the lace. Although the two didn’t know each other too well due to different classes and academic years, Seola wasn’t hesitant to become close with people quickly. Especially since it often meant a new friend. After a moment, she looked up from where she was leaning.

“I think it suits your eyes very nicely. Then again, I’m certain you’d be able to pull anything off.”

“that’s unfortunate...” she pouted before realizing how that probably sounded. “not the compliment, i definitely appreciate that, thank you. i just promised myself i would only buy a few dresses and well-” she pulled back the curtain to her fitting room, revealing the large pile of dresses. “it’s not going so well.”

They called her naive for believing in the good in people. But she was just a loving soul, who thought that even monsters needed someone, who truly believed, they were angels once and they can be it again. And yes, maybe that was naive, but this world needed people like her.

“I was wondering if you might let me take some pictures of you? It’s for a photoshopping class, I have to take portraits and then turn them into other… things? Like mermaids, or angels, or kings,” Alex explained. “Really whatever. And you can choose what you’d like to be, if you want! Completely up to you. If you agree, of course.”

maren’s first thought was a very loud yes, but then a voice in her head ( that sounded eerily similar to her mother’s ) told her to calm down. “so you could take a picture of me like this and turn it into an angel?”

“Oh, my! I hope you don’t mind me saying but you look absolutely splendid in that.” Seola had been trying on some dresses at a nearby boutique. It was rather in the style of classic Auradom but was quite vast in its variety of supplies. As the weather began to get colder she thought she’d invest in some longer sleeves. The fitting rooms were relatively empty but someone had taken the space right next to her own. As she admired herself in the mirror, she couldn’t help but take notice of what they were trying on. Seola was never one to hold back on compliments, they made others feels better and brought people closer after all.

maren had about seventeen dresses stuffed into her fitting room. her mother had told her she didn’t need any more but maren had very little impulse control. she’d told herself she’d only get three of them, but she was almost done trying things on for the second time and the ‘keep’ pile was still far bigger than the ‘putting back’ pile. she couldn’t help but beam at seola’s comment. 

“do you think so? it’s not too much?”
