When somebody provokes your anger, the only reason you get angry is because you’re holding on to how you think something is supposed to be. You’re denying how it is. Then you see it’s the expectations of your own mind that are creating your own hell. When you get frustrated because something isn’t the way you thought it would be, examine the way you thought, not just the thing that frustrates you. You’ll see that a lot of your emotional suffering is created by your models of how you think the universe should be and your inability to allow it to be as it is.
Ram Dass (via fyp-psychology)
“There are two kinds of people, those who do the work and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is less competition there.”
~ Indira Gandhi
“Who you think you are is intimately connected with how you see yourself treated by others. Many people complain that others do not treat them well enough. When people are kind they suspect hidden motives. Who they think they are is a needy person whose needs are not being met. This basic misperception creates dysfunction in all their relationships. They believe they have nothing to give and that the world and other people are withholding from them what they need. If the thought of lack –whether it is money, recognition, love – has become part of who you think you are, you will always experience lack. Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation for all abundance. The fact is: Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you are withholding from the world. You are withholding it because deep down you think you are small and that you have nothing to give. Try this: Whatever you think people are withholding from you – give it to them. You don’t have it? Just act as if you have it and it will come. Soon after you start giving, you will start receiving. You cannot receive what you don’t give. Outflow determines inflow. Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you already have, but unless you allow it to flow out, you won’t even know you have it. This includes abundance. The source of abundance is not outside you. It is part of who you are. Abundance comes only to those who already have it. It is a universal law. Both abundance and scarcity are inner states that manifest as your reality.”
-Eckhart Tolle
If you don’t risk anything, you risk even more.

The Guest House
This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes. because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Wherever you are right now is exactly where you're supposed to be.
If you don't like it, do something different to be somewhere else.
Personal responsibility is an incredibly terrifying idea for people not happy with their life.
Ironically, this would fix their problems.
“Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness.”
~ Napoleon Hill
“True freedom is impossible without a mind made free by discipline.”

“There is only one success--to be able to spend your life in your own way.”
~ Christopher Morley
"If you love something let it go. If it comes back to you it`s yours. If it doesn`t, it never was."
If at eighty you’re not a cripple or an invalid, if you have your health, if you still enjoy a good walk, a good meal (with all the trimmings), if you can sleep without first taking a pill, if birds and flowers, mountains and sea still inspire you, you are a most fortunate individual and you should get down on your knees morning and night and thank the good Lord for his savin’ and keepin’ power.
If you are young in years but already weary in spirit, already on the way to becoming an automaton, it may do you good to say to your boss — under your breath, of course — “Fuck you, Jack! You don’t own me!” … If you can fall in love again and again, if you can forgive your parents for the crime of bringing you into the world, if you are content to get nowhere, just take each day as it comes, if you can forgive as well as forget, if you can keep from growing sour, surly, bitter and cynical, man you’ve got it half licked.
It's the little things that matter, not fame, success, wealth.
- Henry Miller
The possibilities of will-power and self-control appealed tremendously to my vivid imagination, and I began to discipline myself.
Had I a sweet cake or a juicy apple which I was dying to eat I would give it to another boy and go through the tortures of Tantalus, pained but satisfied.
Had I some difficult task before me which was exhausting I would attack it again and again until it was done.
So I practiced day by day from morning till night. At first it called for a vigorous mental effort directed against disposition and desire, but as years went by the conflict lessened and finally my will and wish became identical. They are so to-day, and in this lies the secret of whatever success I have achieved. These experiences are as intimately linked with my discovery of the rotating magnetic field as if they formed an essential part of it; but for them I would never have invented the induction motor.

between my parents divorcing, finding a place my dad can stay in, negotiating my new compensation at work, finding a place in sf to live in, moving to a city where i know only one person, taking care of various friends and their anxieties, putting in extra hours at work to make sure my weekly performance doesn’t take a dip, and my own anxiety about having all of the above throwing a curve ball at my yearly plans and goals...
i would be lying if i said i didn’t feel miserable. i feel like sleeping so that I don’t have to tackle my problems head-on.
but all of these things will be figure out in the next two months. and i will be ecstatic to move onto a new chapter in my life.
