Good bye

TL;DR on my most recent reblog. The death of tumblr is by design, caused by Verizon, not Yahoo. Verizon acquired Yahoo and Verizon wants to control what kind of content people see on their platforms. Verizon also doesn’t care about it’s users and only sees us as a means of acquiring profit. Tumblr in it’s current form is not profitable for Verizon. They would much rather dismantle everything that makes tumblr an active, successful platform and turn it into one that IS profitable for Verizon; i.e. one that attracts advertisers.

If they can’t do that, they’ll simply pull the plug on it when the userbase does it’s mass exodus, because it makes more sense to them than continuing to invest in a site which doesn’t make them money through advertisers.

So the log-out protest won’t work. Pretty sure Verizon knows that their moves are deliberately targeting the userbase who shaped the culture of tumblr in the first place, they just don’t care.
