Wiccan’s Book of Shadows Ideas
I’ve been struggling with how to start my book of shadows. I’ve started a few now and always dropped them because I never felt connected to them or inspired to record my journey with my faith. I think the issue wata that I was trying to record very black and white information, and it didn’t feel personal to me at all. After reading some of Harmony Nice’s book, I’ve grown inspired and wanted to write down some of the ideas I’ve gotten from it/suggestions she has made.
The entire Wiccan rede, usually in the very front of the book
Important details about how I discovered Wicca and found that it was for me
Diary entries for every Wiccan-related thing I do, such as spells, nature work, tarot readings, wand making, etc and how it makes me feel
What I seek to achieve in my faith
General information about the different Wiccan paths and how I feel about each one
General information about the Sabbats
The Wheel of the Year
A moon chart and the dates for the full moons/information about each individual full moon
My morals, values, and beliefs as a Wiccan
And then there are other things that could work in both a Book of Shadows or a Witch’s grimoire such as:
The Elder Futhark alphabet
Information about each individual tarot card’s meaning
Important details about the history of Witchcraft, and general note taking on research done
Plants pressed into pages or drawn
Sketches of plants, mushrooms, birds and other aspects of nature so that I can learn, remember, and be able to identify them
Spells and recipies
General information about other divination practices such as palmistry, tasseography, scrying, etc.
General information about other practices such as astrology and numerology
And a whole lot more, really. Books of Shadows and Grimoires can be huge and versatile and are a primary tool to me in recording what I learn, and we never really stop learning so in essence, the possibilities are endless. What do you like having in your book of shadows/grimoire?
