working on a dispatch fic (idk if ill upload it, its currently just for me) with a family reunion between robert and his mom ft. trans wasian robert and afjasiejrf listen

ftm wasian robert who's legal name is a white name but whose mom had a korean name for her (using fem pronouns for this part of his life cause he didn't know yet). He realizes he's trans and transitions after she's left his life (i like comfort so in my au's she isn't dead but divorced and Robbie cut contact and robert and her can have a reunion but idk maybe you prefer the angst of her being dead, your choice) and he chooses robert for his new name (maybe he feels like he should after his dad died, or maybe this is before robbie dies and robbie doesn't care abt him being trans but does care abt his name and absolutely insists on his name being robert, which also gives new potential angst cause from what ive seen (im not trans) choosing your new name is a big part of transitioning so robbie taking that (again, not trans but what i have seen) fundemental experience away from Robert could be great angst potential).

but. his korean name is a pretty feminine name, or at least usually given to women (for au/angst reasons). But its also one of very few connections he has to his mom. He looks white, he looks like his dad, he can barely remember what his mom looked like, but he can still remember the name she called him. And he doesn't know what she would've called him if he was a boy.

Im taking the easy way out because in my story, he once asked his mom what she would've called her if she was born a boy (she asked either because she was already thinking about gender, or because Robbie was being weird about a girl being the next mecha man (i dont think because of sexism, but because of rebranding a legacy or something) and her mom tells her so when Robert transitions, he uses this name. Not that he tells anyone, but its there, in the back of his mind (until he finds a new family who he trusts enough to tell them about his mom, about the name)

But there is potential in him never having asked that and struggling with his name because it's connected to his gender but also to his mom.

Anyway im not biracial or trans so idk i feel like i wouldn't really be qualified to write this. I can write trans wasian robert in this fic cause its just focused on him reuniting with his mom (and stepdad and half-siblings but shhhh) so all that really requires is basic empathy, a bit of decent research, some common sense on how the human psyche works, and a bit of knowledge on usamerican culture that I mostly got from media, but idk i don't think i'm qualified to write this particular version of the fic because of how heavily it would have to get into the trans and biracial experience, specifically biracial with a racist or at the very least ignorant parent while the other parent is gone. I'm pretty damn sure actually that i'm not qualified to write that.

AO3 doesn't really do algorithms and so sometimes you just stumble upon fics and are like "yo this shit is fucking FIRE" and you notice it has a lot of comments and kudos and bookmarks and its saved in a lot of collections, and you think "deserved hell yeah" and you move on

And then you search for a similar thing on another site and THERE'S TONS OF STUFF OF THAT ONE FIC????? And turns out thats one of the most famous fics in that fandom or that tag. Lmao

Things I have done for fanfics Ive written that feel a little insane, some of these fics have never even been uploaded or even finished:

Make an incredibly extensive list with every name and nickname for every character, also giving a lot of characters a partner, a child, and giving a lot of characters extra names (Silmarillion) (the list currently has 215 names, it's probably still not complete, and I also explain the meaning of every name, who gave the name to the character, why they gave the name to the character, which kind of name it is (amilesse tercenye/amilesse apacenye/ataresse/epesse) and Im not anywhere NEAR finished with adding all that additional info)

Make an entire year-'planner' just so Im certain of what happens around what moment (done it twice now, once for MHA, once for Harry Potter's y2) (both unfinished)

Design a fantasy legal document (Harry Potter) just to give myself an impression of what it would look like so I can properly describe it

Design a fucking house (mha)

Its no wonder at this point that im working on creating my own language and mythology for my original stories, its just par for the course i guess. Cant do anything halfway (and then its so much work I hyperfocus, get distracted, get stressed, get overwhelmed and give up)

Im still not completely satisfied with the house btw, and ive already mentally changed a few things, but it was honestly so much fun to make (a little frustrating too, tho. Tried to use interior design sites/apps at first but those sucked, so I used canva instead lmao. The annoying thing is that the dimensions are all over the place, and also, its huge, and on one hand the space is kinda needed, on the other it feels very ooc for the characters who the house is for: they feel more like apartment people, and not at all like people with a giant, spacy house with a yard and shit. But it's useful for the story and for them: space to train (the big gray rectangle on the left side of the ground flour, and the yard), space to receive guests (the living room), space for a pretty big group of people to eat (kitchen), space for multiple guests who need to stay a night/for kids (the sligtly excessive amount of bedrooms: tbf my family has 6 bedrooms total but we're with 5 kids. One of the bedrooms isn'treally a seperate space tho, its for my youngest brother (8) who basically sleeps in the upstars hallway, but all the way to the side. Hes small so its fine, by the time hell really want and also need his own space I will have moved out already, probably)

Im hella proud of the fake legal docs, they were so much fun to make. Also made in canva, lol.

The spreadsheets are so. Much. Work. You do not want to know. Ive spent HOURS on fanwiki for the MHA year, again yet to truly start on the HP one but ive already spent hours on the dates you see in the left column, and ive spent HOURS on Tolkien Gateway, getting everyones canon names and their meanings straight, changing what I didnt like, and then again HOURS scrolling through the Elvish Name List to find a name thats Just Right(tm), and then again HOURS on Parf Edhellen when I couldn't find a name with the exact meaning I wanted so I had to make my own. Ive put my fucking SOUL into that list. All for a total of six (6) short one-shots.
