why can't the story just write itself
You are a writer and you find an app that will write your story for you, perfect prose and grammar, exactly as you want it, in your voice.
You find someone else who has used the app. They die before publishing and you realise that every time you use the app, your death inches closer.
Do you stop using it?
Writer's block feels like swimming in the sea, and having something suddenly graze your foot. I want to fight the currents, but I am paralysed.
Friendship Tropes 🫂
extrovert adopts introvert
frenemies: they love to hate each other
forbidden friendship
the enemy of my enemy is my friend
ragtag bunch of misfits
loner learning how to have friends

platonic soulmates
with friends like these...
are we still friends when you are in your grave?

The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...
Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?
Reblog cause FACTS
If you're reading this...
go write three sentences on your current writing project.
# my favourite part about this post # is that nowhere does it say to reblog this # but we’re all reblogging it # because if we have to suffer # so do other writers
Yet another scam
This one is targeting posts with ao3 links, and it’s creating AI-generated comments to pose as someone whos read your fic and totally wants to draw something for it
I went to this blog, and their actual blog is empty but their likes are public, and they’re leaving near-identical comments at break-neck speeds on any other posts with ao3 links where
~2 minutes between each of the comments above, and an endless slew of them, all extremely ChatGPT-intoned.
If you see this or any other puppet account show up doing this, block and report.
Mentally making a cup of tea and giving a gentle forehead kiss to every struggling writer on my dash right now.
Your story matters, your ideas are good, and someone out there is going to fall in love with your world.
not now kitten, mommy needs to get up off her ass and overcome her fear of writing poorly because it's better than not writing at all.
Fanfic is a great way to practice self-indulgence while writing. It doesn’t even have to be good, it just exists purely for your pleasure, be a little freak about it. Worry about quality and what other people think when it comes to works you intend to publish in a formal setting
not now kitten. daddy only planned the first half of his wip, and now he has to figure out what the fuck to do for the other half.
writers, instead of asking ai for help, you can always use your childhood trauma and repressed issues to help you with that fic
reader: i love how (detail added on a whim) foreshadows (scene that isnt related) youre a GENIUS
me: yes. of course. i absolutely meant to do that.
Me when I write for 30 minutes: 1k words
Me when I write for 2 hours: 500 words
Me when I write for 4 hours: -300 words
If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.
I don't need AI to write. I can create fake scenarios in my head perfectly fine myself.
shoutout to AO3 authors who write 100k fics for free while juggling mental illness, academic burnout, 3 jobs, and a deep-rooted need to fix fictional people.
