Empty Eyes Confused A Face So Evil (Closed)
The kick landed, Bucky’s balance gone before he landed on his back with a crack, pain shooting up his left side. The man never winced, as pain had become like a reminder not to lose in the time he served as the Winter Soldier. He hesitated to move immediately, calculating what would best drive Steve out of here, away from this mission. Did he need to sell himself as loyal HYDRA agent or ruin whatever Steve thought might remain of his friend? "I was an experiment that bore fruit," Bucky replied, the cold monotone back, gripping him from somewhere in his core and steeling him. He leaped back onto his feet, taking a boxer’s stance, the knife in his flesh hand. "And you are my only failed mission." He had been talking too much, Bucky realized, to pass as the brainwashed assassin. He decided to not speak unless necessary from then out, knowing the mistake had been made but hoping it could be played off. He flung himself at Steve, reaching to grab the shield with his biotic hand as he did so.
Steve struggled to fight off Bucky as his mechanical hand clamped around the vibranium shield. "The only reason I'm not dead," he said, pushing back at Bucky, "is because you saved me. You could have left me to drown but you didn't so don't give me this crap that I was only a mission. You know me, Buck. I know you do."
With his free hand he threw a punch at his friend's ribcage. He didn't want to hurt Bucky. He really didn't. It killed him to have to do this, but it was something that needed to be done, especially if HYDRA was watching.
"You've always been there for me, Bucky. Even when I didn't want you to be. So just this once, will you let me be there for you?"
