forget me nots.
iddax:
dax pulls out his phone and starts tapping away at the screen, answering old messages and browsing through social media when he hears a cough come from the other corner of the room, an expectant sound that was clearly made to grab his attention. he looks up slowly to look for the source of the cough. ahh, now he’s found the reason from the screaming fans. “oh, hey,” he says after looking for a short second before looking back down at his phone, not bothering to say any more to ellie than that.
seeing dax wasn’t exactly in her agenda for the day. or the month. actually, she thinks she would be okay if she just didn’t have to see him ever again. but that seems unrealistic, especially since they work in the same industry and have mutual friends. but ellie’s fantasy in her head involves not having to see dax’s face again, and if she does, it’s at a music show or something, buffered by others that she can talk with instead, actively ignoring him.
but this situation isn’t like that. it’s quite the opposite actually. ellie was taking advantage of the chance to get out of the dorm without a schedule to occupy her. she was curled up in a comfy arm chair, sketchbook in her lap, airpods in, an iced coffee on the side table next to her. outside somewhere was someone her manager sent with her to make sure she wasn’t harassed (and to make sure she behaved herself and didn’t do something that would reflect poorly on the company). she was enjoying the solitude until she noticed the front door open and close and there he was.
it would have been better if it was a fan, honestly. at least then she could smile, talk for a moment, take a picture, and they’d be on their way. but dax was a presence she couldn’t ignore. and dax ignoring her was even worse. before she can stop herself, she’s cleared her throat with the full intention of grabbing his attention. it works. she expects more than the hello she got, but she knows she shouldn’t. he was the one who stopped talking to her, he was the one who ghosted her. whether it was intentional or not, he made her feel small and unimportant, something difficult for someone of her ego. but to ellie, this was her chance to prove that she wasn’t that person.
“that’s it?” she stands up and approaches him, but keeps her distance slightly. “did you just come in here to bother me? because you didn’t even get a coffee or anything.” her arms are crossed across her chest and she’s leaning back slightly, a defensive stance meant to hoard off any unwelcome feelings. because any feelings for dax at this point were definitely unwelcome. he’d already made it clear that she wasn’t worth his time, so why should he be worth even a spare thought?
