Her eyes maintained a childlike sparkle, and Harley clapped again as Loki prepared to jump, listening intently to their explanation. “Magic?! That’s so–!”
Harley cringed involuntarily when her new friend landed, the harsh THUMP sending her back a step out of instinct. That could not be good. Oh, God, were they dead? Was this technically Harley’s fault because she egged them on? What was the legal procedure here?!
Maybe hopefully the magic stuff protected them? Or…maybe not. Regardless, Harley tiptoed closer, peering down with a bitten lip and a worried tug at her collar.
“Oh man. Oh man, oh man, oh man. Hey, kid–ya all right? Pleasebeallright. Y’can get up, c’mon, I know ya can! Jus’ don’t be dead. Pretty please?”
Gently, the toe of a red shoe nudged Loki’s arm, and Harley waved a gloved hand frantically in front of their eyes, watching for any movement that would indicate life. “Hellooo?”
♦ ― In hindsight, Loki probably should have taken longer to sit up. They were, after all, in unfamiliar territory with an unfamiliar woman. Who knew what trouble they’d attract by popping up from a possibly third-story fall?
They sat right up anyway. The wind had been knocked out of them, but, they’d obviously been through worse, and much more recently at that. With a sheepish smile they gently nudged her hand out of their face so that they could shakily get to their feet. There was a red tinge to their cheeks, and they seemed to be avoiding her gaze, now.
❝ σн, ву σ∂ιи'ѕ вα∂ єує, тнαт ѕмαятѕ, ❞ the young trickster wheezed. They twisted once, and surmised that the damage wasn’t anything to raise alarm. Their coat was dirty, but, it usually was.
❝ ℓєт'ѕ, υм, кєєρ тнιѕ вєтωєєи υѕ, уєѕ? ❞ Loki’s tone was hopeful, at best.
Their eyes shifted to the edge of the alley, falling on a passerby. Belatedly, they realized that the paint had been enough to draw undue attention without any magical antics added into the mix.
