Messing with the Wind Waker usually led to getting and earful from Daphnes, yet, this time, he ended up with a mouthful of grass. It wasn’t necessarily the first time when he fell asleep and woke up someplace completely different, but it was the first time he did it by playing a tune with the baton. 

How many songs were possible? Link wished he knew. Daphnes avoided his questions when he asked (It usually ended with the both of them being frustrated with each other). 

Exploring has always been one of Link’s many joys, but the boy couldn’t help but feel concerned (Borderline fearful) when his gossip stone didn’t work, and even worse, he was lost. Usually it wasn’t hard to figure out where he was by the shape of an island or the islands around it… But this, Link had no idea where to sea was. 

The ocean can’t just suddenly disappear! And yet, it was no where to be seen. Wandering the land was he best option (Whoever said stay where you were when you’re lost is a fool) and after some time, a soothing tune filled his senses. 

Following the melody, Link was led to another (A boy who couldn’t be too much older than himself), along with returning the gesture, he gave a bright smile. Making a path through the grass he made his way over to the other boy until he noticed his expression.

With a look of concern written over his face, Link finally spoke, “Is everything okay?”

✦ —— the other person seemed friendly, so his internal questions grew more and more abundant. the engineer kept flitting his gaze back towards the other's attire and back up to this stranger's face-- it was weird for a few reasons, really, but he tried to handwave it.

        ❝ mn-? y-yeah, peachy ! sorry. must've been looking weird. ❞

          he frees one of his hands from its grip upon the sacred instrument, reaching up to scratch behind his ear. he doesn't think he can just avoid bringing up at least ONE of his questions-- especially if this boy was going to be concerned over him all the way out here.

double post but i realized i should clarify this since i discussed it a bit with mimi!

my portrayal of st link isn’t mute, he just doesn’t really care to speak much at all! he uses tiny words and fragments verbally. i’m hcing him as knowing some form of hylian sign language where he’s a bit more willing to put effort into communicating!

his verbal speech is a little more colorful and slang filled than his signing. he normally won’t sign unless the other person initiates it first.

link suspects his sheltered life behind his clumsiness as he never expected the world to be so fast paced  .  .  .  and so crowded. ( how people could be so tall!? ) a misplaced step to the side, balance lost in an attempt to not bump into somebody—— all of his harmless efforts now hopeless when he accidentally tackles someone far taller than him. not wanting to put up with the possible confrontation resulting of his wrong doing, he dashed out as quickly as the wind, fleeing outside.

his palm lifts to smooth a wrinkle on his tunic when he finally comes to a halt, lips forming a quirk of a pout. how annoying! the familiar weight of the ocarina is now gone, usually always tucked neatly in a leather pouch at his belt. wide blue eyes darts over his shoulder—— quickly staring back in front of him. did he got pick - pocketed and never realized—— or perhaps lost it in the commotion? oh no!

as if on cue, a stranger brings to him the lost object and alleviates his anguish. though link enjoys his new freedom, there’s comfort to be had in seeing a youth about his age. the green of the stranger’s tunic isn’t lost on him, and his mind remembers those he has left behind in the forest. if it wasn’t for his slightly taller stature, he would almost consider him one of the fairy folk, but the familiarity is most welcome anyhow. when he’s in front of the young man, he signs hastily, ❛ it is, thank you, ❜ his smile brighter than the sun. happily does he reach out, fingers grasping saria’s briefly lost gift. he puts it back in its rightful place, before signing again, tentatively, on a curious whim. ❛ i like your clothes. did you get them from the forest folk? ❜

✦ —— link only takes a good look at the item he has picked up after it has been returned to its rightful owner. it's not the fanciest looking instrument by any means, but its shape is definitely peculiar to the foreigner! he takes great interest in it now ( how ironic really-- he could've checked it all he liked before this moment ! ) but it is soon taken out of sight.

          his attention is instead taken captive by the boy's signing. oh! this makes things easier-- to not have to listen and discern through cloudy mumbles but instead only rely on his trained eyesight.

          he cocks his head at the question: forest folk? he almost answers ' yes ' since he himself came from a place called the forest realm but realizes that's probably not what the other meant. he shakes his head and begins to sign back: ❝ i borrowed it from a castle back home to blend in. the knights wear this. ❞

✦ —— curiosity gets the better of link, and once he's in this new realm and spots a few crows, he takes out his spirit flute. a small tune plays of only three notes and the look on the boy's face is rigid and alert as he keeps a careful eye on the birds the whole while. he starts to take out his shield from his back, ready to use it to defend himself from his would-be attackers but the impact never comes.

         he peeks over top his shield, lowering it to see what had happened. the birds caw and direct their ire not at him but instead at another male entirely just a little distance away. the engineer moves over to try and help shoo away the crows from the stranger he had accidentally cursed, unsheathing his sword and drawing it in a skyward arc with a frantic expression upon his countenance.

✦ —— moments of isolation weren’t that common before to the engineer, and he feels tempted to merely flop onto his back and lay down against the ground-- take in the sun for the beams felt so warm, so soothing today. yet he decides instead to plop himself onto a rock and take out the pan flute he had been entrusted with.

          he doesn’t think himself to be particularly good at it and when he brings his lips to the instrument to play it, he doesn’t create much more than a simple melody. it has a lulling effect-- the exact opposite of what he wished, and he stares into it somewhat despondently. out of the corner of his eye he notices someone and he whips his head to look at him; his hand is already waving before he fully turns his gaze. though his gesture is friendly, his expression is bemused.

✦ —— different lands were exposed to different types of people, different types of minds, and with that, different modes of transportation. he found himself chained to the first town he could get to, realizing quickly the people here travel by horseback-- an art extremely foreign to him. he wonders if carriages were a thing here?

          in his days spent roaming and eating simple meals at an inn, the engineer has been making a bit of a hobby of taking walks and mapping out the town and its surroundings in excruciating detail. he comes out armed with his writing utensil and his half-finished map, trying his best to avoid bumping into anybody else out and about. it is on the outskirts that he hears a ‘clunk’  and a blur of a male in a green tunic dashes past. he picks up the dropped article and hurries after, a yelp on his lips to grab the other’s attention before he moves too far away.

            he holds up the item, waving it around ( only once he’s certain the other’s noticed his cry ) before he jogs up to the other with it. he pushes it forth. ❝ it yours ? ❞
