I NEED FIC RECOMMENDATIONS

after whatever that finale was. I'm really looking for a six-chapter structure, as if it were really a reimagining of the third series BC I NEED IT. the last episode was cute but very lackluster in comparison to the rest of the show, as well as full of incoherences. I'm sure many fans out there have done a better job. It can also be short stories, minisodes, character explorations, etc, I'll take anything that's well written. preferably ao3, can be saucy or not.

Also, please please please ones that include past characters, namely Adam and the gang, Anathema and Newt, Nina and Maggie and the rest of the quaint inhabitants of Whickber street. Please and thank you.

@ AMC IWTV enthusiasts, especially vampire chronicles readers (and sympathizers):

how do we feel about Gabriela? bc I'm so excited abt season 3 but also very worried abt the incest themes. like, I'll be giggling in my room while thinking abt S3 and IMMEDIATELY stop once I remember "oh, incest...". I truly don't know what to expect other than what was presented on the trailer (which is already weird imo), and it's kinda consuming my every thought tbh. ik showrunners toned down some aspects of the book, and I really hoped that'd be the case again with Gabriela and Lestat's relationship (even though I don't think that'll happen).

idk I just wanted to know your guesses and opinions on this since I haven't read TVL yet.

while listening to Falsettos' original recording, I just thought "Marvin sounds so familiar... IT'S CALLAHAN"

I now realise I didn't figure out Borle played Emmet alongside him. It's actually a little bit cathartic, thinking that Marvin got to see himself grow old, since he probably didn't in universe. Currently watching Falsettos for the first time, it's so sickening.

"Wicked: for Good" rant post

I watched "Wicked: for Good" last weekend and it was such a huge let down. I think what infuriated me most was Glinda's portrayal as "the girl in the bubble", naive but helplessly drawn to the attention and fame. Her lack of accountability made me so mad, even more so when she's painted as this hero at the end of the movie, accepting the animals back into society when SHE WAS THE ACTIVE SPOKESPERSON FOR THEIR OPPRESSION. The wizard's political plan wouldn't be nearly as successful without her, but that's thrown to the wind for the sake of making her likeable. Truth is, she would've been likeable either way, she's freaking Ariana Grande in a pink puffy dress singing at an operatic range. For that matter, I think she got way too much unnecessary screentime, it shifted the focus towards her to make us feel bad for the white saviour.

Also, the political message of the original book was completely lost. The 2003 play suffers chronically of softening the political message, while the book suffers from unnecessary sexual innuendo and shock value (in my opinion), so I thought the movie would aim the best of both worlds while remaining more loyal to the Broadway show. However, the movie, as the musical, relies too heavily on the spectacle of it all, and the political message of fascism and passivity (that is so relevant and needed, might I add) is so subdued that it flies over most viewer's heads. But I don't think that's a coincidence at all: the Wicked movie strived for major commercial success, pop culture relevance and probably critical acclaim (ie: awards), and they could not achieve this through the heavy handed political imagery Gregory Maguire originally created. His narrative is by no means perfect, but the goal of most adaptations is to improve and build upon pre-existing media, which brings me to the next point.

The Wicked movie franchise expands on almost nothing substantial when compared to the Broadway musical. It has little scenes that try to bring complexity to the characters but it does not justify a 2 part, almost 5 hours long total saga. We know little to nothing about these characters: I would've loved to see Fiyero in his homeland and the community's reaction to his leadership, or more significant portrayal of dr Dillamond and his fight against oppression. In reality, the minority characters (in relationship to Oz's political climate) fall flat in comparison to Gelphie, who are not themselves that well developed. I felt Elphaba's "evil" arc was so abrupt and silly, it brought no nuance to the narrative.

In the end, I guess the dichotomous quality of the narrative was lost in favor of a washed out version of the story. The good and evil aspects didn't hit as hard, because the main characters lacked agency, and the story is very uncommitted to any of the significant narrative and social topics that permeate Wicked and Wizard of Oz as a whole. Glinda had almost no relevant stakes in the tensioned moments, whereas Elfie lost her family, her friends and her home on top of the hardships she endured throughout her life. Thus, the ending felt unsatisfactory and inconclusive to me.

An interesting detail in AMC's IWTV that I think about fairly often is how Loustat's sexual dynamic seems to reflect the power imbalance of their relationship. It's not uncommon for Lestat to hold Louis' wrists down during intercourse, and of course that can (and might) be a kink thing, but I believe it paints a bigger picture about the attachment styles each one of them displays. At the same time it presents a dominator-dominated type of relationship (inside and outside of the sexuality sphere), it also reveals some sort of hidden motivation to each character. Lestat, to never be alone again, even if it is forcefully; to love in the rough and jagged way he was taught to. And Louis, to let go of the commanding facade he was forced into(that he presented in his family and in the brothel); to let himself be seduced by a man; to be the receiving end of an all encompassing love he actually desires.

I'm so upset I missed Hozier's shows in my country. ik it's gonna take a while for him to come back and that makes me so mad bc he literally had three shows here in the span of a year. I hate capitalism (because money issues keep me from special experiences) and overprotective parents (yes I am a young adult, but I still depend on them for almost everything). anyways, Hozier MUST return in a few years, I'll be ready for him then I swear 😁
