Hello everyone! I know that I have posted nothing substantial in a while, and the sole reason is that I am super busy right now, and when I have free time, I do not have it in me to write, especially not anything good or worth your time.
I do have the full intention to bring the Nerd series to a close during the course of this year, and it has been one of my favourite things to write and give to you all over the past year and a bit. I also want to finish 'Always Been Mine' (dad!Lando), but neither of these works have gone anywhere recently.
So, in summary, this is just me telling you that I'm not dead, I do still have writing capabilities and that you will be getting your favourite series back at some point. When I have time again. I can't tell you when, but I can tell you that it will be at some point. Thank you for your patience and I hope you're all doing well 💖
Christmas. It was the most wondrous time of the year, but you had never really cared for it all that much. You usually spent it with your parents, but your relationship with them was strained and they had never put in any effort to make it special for you. It was just like any other day with presents and decorations.
Lando’s house was the opposite. Their house was filled with joy and laughter, the smell of a cooking christmas dinner and the sound of christmas songs over the speakers. This year, though, he had something else important on his mind. He needed to get something for you. He had done chores all around the house for a couple of weeks so that he could earn the money from his parents to buy your gift, and he already knew what it was going to be.
After placing the order, all he had to do was wait for your present to arrive. He wanted to make this year a Christmas that you could actually enjoy, even if you weren’t spending it together. Once it had arrived, he even made the effort to sit down with his mum and learn how to wrap presents.
He was awful at it, but the fact that he had done it was a lot more important than how pretty it looked. His family was busy over Christmas, so he struggled to find a day where the both of you were free to exchange gifts. You had gotten him something too, but it was only something simple, and you were scared that he had gone all out. You had organised a meet up in the park, and you were sat on the bench waiting for him.
For the first time in your life, you were wearing a Christmas jumper and you even had some Christmas tree earrings in. It was a cold, crisp day with a cloudless blue sky. The grass was tipped with frost, and the trees were barren of leaves.
“Hey sunshine!” Lando called out, waving as he walked down the path towards you. He was bundled up in a huge winter coat, which was definitely overkill for the temperature. It was cold, but it wasn’t that cold. He was holding a small bag inside that had tissue paper sticking out of it. You had his gift on the bench next to you. You had spent days making it and making sure that all of it was perfect, but every time you looked at it, you could see parts of it that you didn’t like.
“Hey, gorgeous. You prepping for the Antarctic or something?” you teased as he sat down, pressing a quick kiss to your forehead and then nudging you in the side.
“I will have you know that it is cold, OK? And you look adorable.” he pouted, handing you the bag with your present in it. “Open the card later,” he told you as you pulled the tissue paper out of the top of the bag to reveal a rectangular box. Lando was nervous, but he felt like he was the one opening presents as he watched you.
Pulling the box out of the bag, Lando expectantly looked at it as he waited for you to open the present. “It’s OK if you don’t like it…” he told you, suddenly feeling self-conscious that you wouldn’t like what he had gotten, even if he knew that you would deep down.
You unwrapped and opened the box, looking at the contents. It was a silver necklace with a heart pendant with something a bit like a fisheye in the middle. “You’ve got to hold it to your eye.” he said,, and you did exactly that. You could feel tears springing to your eyes as a picture became clear to you.
It was the candid shot that his dad had taken of the two of you before prom, and you looked utterly in love. “Lando… it’s… wow…” you whispered, unsure of how to thank him. He looked at your glassy eyes, knowing that he had done a damn good job with this. You threw your arms around his neck, hugging him close. “Thank you,” you whispered in his ear before pulling back.
“You’re welcome.” he smiled, his heart full with joy because you like the gift that he had bought you. “Let me put it on you,” he said, taking the necklace out of the box and opening the clasp. You turned your back to him, moving your hair out of the way as he fastened it around your neck. “Stunning,” he complimented, thoroughly enjoying the sight of the silver against your skin.
“It really is,” you nodded, looking down at the pendant and knowing what was on the inside of it.
“More like you are,” he flirted, making you giggle and blush deeply. Lando was such a flirt, and you never thought you’d be able to match the cheesiness that he displayed when he was with you.
“Now it’s your turn,” you deflected, handing him the wrapped box. Your wrapping skills were a hell of a lot better than his, but it was a start. “It’s not as… it… it’s not quite as-” you started.
“Stop, I know I’ll love it.” he cut you off, not wanting you to second guess whatever you had gotten for him. It could literally be anything and he would love it simply because it was from you. He unwrapped the box and took the lid off of it, his eyes widening at what he saw inside.
He recognised every single item that was there, and his mind was filled with memories of what they were all from. It was a keepsake box of everything that the two of you had gone through together. DT projects, bits of maths homework, movie tickets, photos, the picture of you and your cousin that Lando had gotten jealous over that one time. More photos and items were stuck on the walls of the box, and it was like a time capsule of your relationship through the months. His card was in there as well, and you had also instructed him to open it later.
“Sunshine…” he trailed off, suddenly unable to form words. He rifled through the items, his brain going into overdrive as he thought of just how much the two of you had endured together. And, even after it all, he had somehow ended up with you by his side. He would treasure it forever and ever.
“This is the nicest thing anyone has ever given me.” he sincerely told you, meaning every last word of it. “It’s amazing,” he smiled, leaning in for a kiss. It was short and sweet, but the feeling of kissing you never got old. “I will be cherishing this forever,” Lando said, pulling back from the kiss briefly to just look at you. His perfect girl.
You didn’t even have to get him anything, all you had to do was just exist and that was more than enough for him. He’d ask for you for every Christmas until the day he died if he had to just to have his wish granted, but he didn’t want to have to land those kinds of huge feelings on you.
But, you felt the exact same. No one quite made you happy like he did, and it was like someone had sent him to you to make up for all of your hardships in life. You’d keep him forever if you could, but you’d be naive to think that. You found yourself thinking ahead to whatever came after results, and then the potential of university and living long distance.
It was far away, but it scared you. Lando didn’t think that far ahead, he found it a lot easier to live in the present and ignore the terrifying future. But you did. Maybe it was a bit too far in the future, but it was something looming in the back of your mind. For now, you were going to enjoy the best Christmas that you had ever had in all of your years with the one person who made it all worth it.
You spent the rest of your day walking through the park and getting a hot chocolate from the cafe until you had to catch the bus. You would have invited Lando home, but your parents were actually there for once and you knew they wouldn’t take kindly to you bringing a boy home. You hadn’t told them about him, and they had never bothered to ask.
Again, those were the kinds of things you were ignoring today. You had all the time in the world to think about that, but for now, it was your time to enjoy your Christmas. “Well would you look at that, it’s mistletoe.” Lando said, stopping you from walking any further by tugging your hand back and pointing up at the trees.
“Gorgeous… those are just berries. It’s not mistletoe,” you laughed, while Lando’s face went red.
“That’s not the point, the point is that there are red, shiny berries and leafy things around it, and I want a kiss so it’s essentially the same thing,” he pouted, releasing your hand from his and resting his hands on your waist. “So… do I get my Christmas kiss…?” he asked, as if there was any chance that you would say no.
“Do I not get a please?” you teased, moving towards him and stopping a hairs width away from his lips. Lando wouldn’t tell you, but this was massively turning him on and he needed you to get it over with before he did something that he regretted. Well, he wouldn’t regret it, but he didn’t want to push you too far.
“Please can I get my Christmas kiss?” he asked, fluttering his eyelashes at you.
“Because you asked so nicely…” you mumbled, pressing your lips to his. The kiss was perfect, setting the scene for a great festive season. “Merry Christmas,” you whispered to him, pulling back for air.
“Merry Christmas to you too, sunshine.” he replied, instantly going back in for the kiss.

You had just gotten home with the cheesiest grin on your face, and the first thing that you wanted to do was open Lando’s card. You told your parents that you had been out with your friend before rushing up to your room and tearing open the envelope.
‘Dear sunshine, I’ll get all of this out of the way first. Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful day and get everything you want, because there is no one else who deserves it. Now, I suppose I just want to let you know how much I appreciate you. I don’t want to imagine a life without you, because you genuinely make my days… sunnier. Right, that is enough of the soppy stuff because just writing that made me feel a bit sick. Here’s to another wonderful year with my favourite person in the world, because you’re stuck with me now and I refuse to let you get rid of me. All my love, Lando xx’
Even if he sometimes struggled with being sentimental, it still warmed your heart to read. You instantly pinned it on your pin board so that you could read it over and over and over again until you had every word memorised. God, you were lucky.
—
Lando had done the same thing, showing his mum what you had made him before going straight to his room to open your card. ‘Dear Lando, merry Christmas! Enjoy your day, even if you’re going to have to suffer for a whole few days without me. This year has been a bit of a crazy one, hasn’t it? But, even after all of that, it has led us here and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I wouldn’t change you for the world. And that, gorgeous, is because you’re my favourite person in the universe, and don’t you dare forget it. I’ll see you soon! Love, your sunshine xx’
He felt emotional, to say the least. He was never used to anyone being this nice to him, apart from his mum. He hated being so cheesy and sentimental, but it was you, so it was worth it. He felt like the luckiest guy in the world. And, in many ways, he was. He knew you would say all of that to him in person, but he liked that he would be able to read it again if he ever needed to.
He put it into his desk drawer with his school work so that he could read it whenever he had homework to do and it would cheer him up. That way, he’d have you with him at all times, just like you would have him with you in the form of a photo around your neck. It felt just like poetry.
A/N - Merry Christmas everyone! To those who do celebrate, have a wonderful day. And to those who don't, I hope your day is just as lovely! This is the Nerd Christmas Special, but I do have to stress that this not in the right order. There is still more to go on before this takes place, and I've to leave it vague to not spoil anything. Love you all and I will see you in the new year! 💖💖
missing the lando nerd series like craaazy!! hope your well :))
The series that I have fallen oh so in love with, and I hope you've been enjoying it as much as I am! Thought I would put it all here so that it doesn't look super bulky on the master list.
Meanwhile, you were trying not to cry. The makeup would have run, and you didn’t want that to happen. You felt great about yourself, and you weren’t letting Max ruin it. Your head was telling you that all you had to do was listen to Lando and it would all make sense, but your heart was telling you that he was just using you after all, and there was an ulterior motive to him being the perfect guy for you.
You went back out to the deck and around the side of the building so that no one would see you if they came outside. From a distance, Lilly had been watching the altercation after you and Lando had come inside.
She knew that the two of you had kissed - she had seen it through the window. She was happy for you, she genuinely was. She just felt the small pangs of jealousy ripple through her heart, but it wasn’t out of malice. You deserved the happy ending, more so than she did.
But, then she saw Max stirring trouble and watched you run off. While Lando was busy scolding Max, she followed you outside. She had to round the corner of the terrace to find you, but she spotted you leaning against the railing while you deeply breathed. “Hey… what happened?” she asked, standing by your side.
“It’s Max and… Lando said some shit and I just can’t be arsed with it. Every time things are going well, they get fucked up and it’s so draining,” you rambled, your voice cracking but you were valiantly keeping the tears at bay. Lilly couldn’t feel anything but guilt, at this point.
She knew better than anyone apart from you and Lando how many times your happy ending had been tarnished because she had often been the reason for it. Now that she got a first hand look into how her actions affected other people, it made her even more dead set on changing her ways and being a better person. And, she wasn’t going to let yours and Lando’s relationship go down the drain because of this.
“Just… take a breath and think for a second, OK? And I know you’re not going to want to hear this, but it’s a good thing in the long run." Lilly said, and that was when you finally looked at her. She tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear, now sure that you were listening to her.
“If Lando was just looking for a quick shag, he wouldn’t have gone to all of this effort. There are tons of girls who would give him everything from just one glance, and I was one of them once upon a time. I promise, whatever he said, was just a joke that he made because teenage guys are horny idiots. And I can guarantee he is kicking himself right now,” she said, and you just let the words sink in.
She was right, you knew that she was right. Lando could have anyone else for a lot less effort, but here he was. He was taking you to prom, kissing you without ever pushing for more, being the sweetest boy that you had ever met.
“I know but… shit keeps getting ruined…” you trailed off, and Lilly knew you needed more than her reassurance. You needed Lando to tell you.
“But think about why things keep getting ruined. It has never been directly because of Lando, has it? Lando has never hurt you himself. It’s always someone else, isn’t it? It was me, or Max, or his friends. It was never ever Lando,” Lilly told you, and yet again, you were painfully aware of how right she was.
You didn't say anything, just wrapping your arms around her suddenly in a hug that you so desperately needed. She reciprocated without missing a beat, feeling all of the pent up tears that you were trying too hard to keep at bay. “Don’t cry… you look way too stunning tonight to cry,” she commented, making you smile, even if she couldn’t see.
Lando rounded the corner after following you out, stopping dead in his tracks when he saw you in Lilly’s arms. Not his. He knew that you were going to be upset, but he wanted you to talk to him.
“I’ll leave you two to talk,” she said, leaving you and Lando on the deck.
“I know you’re upset, and you have every right to be, but I need you to hear me out, OK?” Lando said, approaching you and placing his hands tentatively on your waist. When you didn’t move away, he took that as a sign to continue.
“I said that, I did, but it was a joke. Max is a complete and utter dick for repeating it and giving zero context. I said that I would get laid before he would because he’s a twat, that’s what I said. But that, in no way, means that I am pushing for that with you. Never. We do things at our pace, it’s not a race. I’m sorry you’re upset, I won’t talk to Max without a sincere apology, and I just want to enjoy the rest of our night.” Lando said, and you were silent for a few minutes.
Max wasn’t worth having the best night of your life ruined. Max wasn’t worth tarnishing the best thing that had ever happened to you. Lando was. Lando was worth putting it all behind you and carrying on. You didn’t really know what to say, instead you just leant up to kiss him.
It was short, but it was sweet. “Does that mean we’re OK?” Lando whispered against your lips when you pulled away.
“C’mon. I want to dance,” you said, grabbing his hand and dragging him back inside again. That meant you were OK. While you had been gone, Lilly had decided that enough was enough. Max looked like a sad little puppy as he sat at his table while his friends were laughing, but he was just there. He was fidgeting with his hands while he thought about what Lando had said to him.
Max had always thought that he was funny because his friends had laughed along. So, he had never changed the style or content of his humour because it always landed the way that he wanted it to. Nobody had ever had a problem with Max’s ways, well, not the people that he cared about.
He had gotten used to being called a dick and childish by people around him, but never someone that had mattered to him like Lando did. They had been best friends for years, and Lando had never had any qualms about his jokes. Until he met you.
Lando didn’t find him as funny anymore, he just seemed to laugh out of pity. And, he even tended to tell him off after he had made some of his more vulgar comments. But this was the first time his best friend had said such awful things about him because he had gone too far.
“Max.” she said, standing beside the table as everyone turned to look at her. She was there with her arms crossed and a face like thunder. “Listen up, because I’m only going to say it once. You’re going to apologise, and it’s going to be sincere. It is a miracle that Lando has put up with you this long, and both of them deserve an apology. You’re going to wait until they’ve settled. In the meantime, think about growing up.” she told him, walking away before he could respond.
He never thought that he’d live to see the day where Lilly of all people was telling him how to be a better person, but here he was. He had never been one for sentimentality, like most teenage boys weren’t, but he was mature enough to realise that he didn’t want to lose his best friend like this. He wasn’t going to let him being an arsehole ruin his nearing on ten year long friendship. So, he’d apologise.
For the rest of the night, you danced with Lilly and Lando, as well as some of your other friends, but were just about to wrap up the night when you saw Lilly sitting by herself at your table. Max was also there, looking glum as he had been abandoned by his friends. It was either that or he had chosen to stay there by himself.
Lando saw you looking at them both, and he knew what you were thinking. For Lilly, he could understand. She had turned over a new leaf, and it was genuine. The two of you got along like a house on fire, and she was being nice. She deserved it. Max? He didn’t know what you were thinking.
“You’re too good, you know that? If it were up to me, I’d leave him to sit there by himself,” Lando chuckled, kissing the top of your head like he naturally did now. The two of you were swaying side to side, but now he had to be the bigger person.
“I know. But we still should,” you sighed, ready to go over and ask Max to dance. Even if you despised him.
“If he gets too handsy, you send him to me, yes? Well, either that or you slap him. You have my full permission,” Lando said. Even if he was smiling, you knew that he was being deadly serious.
Lando went and extended a hand out to Lilly, which she accepted instantly. She wasn’t going to try anything, she was just going to appreciate the thought of the gesture. In her head, she was imagining another universe where this was permanent and it wasn’t just an action of pity, but she kept having to snap back to reality.
Max was more tentative when you held a hand out to him. “Come on, someone’s gotta dance with you,” you said, and that caused him to crack a smile. Albeit a slight smile, it was still a smile nonetheless.
Once you were on the dancefloor, one of Max’s hands wrapped around you to rest on your back instead of on your waist or your hip, since he knew that Lando would go absolutely ballistic if he got too touchy with his girl.
“Look I…” he started, but he struggled to get the words out. He had never really had to apologise to anyone because of his actions, and now that he was doing it, it was harder than he initially thought it would be.
“I’m sorry, OK? Lando wasn’t trying to be an ass, I was. So I’m sorry. And he’s really scary when he’s pissed so… you know.” he mumbled, unable to look you in the eye. It wasn’t the best apology that you had ever heard, it felt pretty half arsed, but it was better than nothing. Especially since it was from Max.
“Just… stop ruining things, yeah?” you said, and Max begrudgingly nodded.
“Fine, fine. I can try.” he rolled his eyes, causing you to laugh. Lando would have been jealous, but he was guessing that Max must have made some form of apology to get you to laugh and not want to smack him stupid.
“You know, I really appreciate you trying to change. Y/N does as well, and I’m really glad that you guys get along now. It’s great to see.” Lando said as he swayed with Lilly.
“I guess I just… realised that she didn’t deserve it and that I was just pinning my own insecurities onto her. And she’s really sweet. It would’ve been good if we could have been friends earlier, but it’s better late than never.” she said.
“Still. I’m glad that it’s all kinda worked out,” Lando smiled. He was sure that Lilly was perfectly lovely, even if he still had his apprehensions. He was glad that you had given her a chance, but that was just the kind of person that you were.
Somehow, even after everything that both Max and Lilly had put you through, you were still willing to put it behind you and move forward with positive relationships with the both of them. That, along with many other things, was one of the main reasons he adored you. You were too kind for your own good.
Eventually, the song came to an end and you were instantly back at Lando’s side. “Hey, how’d that go?” he asked, his arm instinctively wrapping around your waist as his hand rested on your hip.
“He apologised. It seemed pretty hard for him to do, but he apologised nonetheless. Now it’s just your turn to get one.” you told him. He didn’t think that he would get a ‘sorry’ out of Max anytime soon, but he was waiting for it. Not so eagerly, but he was waiting.
“Sure, fat chance,” he chuckled, watching as people filtered out of the hall to go home. “Do you need a ride or are your parents coming for you?” he asked, noticing how you were looking around the car park as if you were trying to find someone.
“No, no. They’re not home at the moment. I was going to get a taxi home,” you told him, and his heart sank for you. He couldn’t imagine how it would feel to never bother even looking for his parents and just relying on a taxi to get home. He couldn’t imagine how it felt to know you were going home to an empty house. He couldn't imagine how it felt to know that you were alone most of the time.
“No, you’re not. We can take you,” Lando said, his tone not leaving any room for argument. He wasn’t letting you go by yourself, no way. Just as he started to lead you to where his dad was waiting with the car, you felt someone tugging on your arm.
“Hey, I was just wondering if… my parents said it’s OK if you want to stay at mine tonight. I get it if not, but I was thinking we could just chill, maybe do face masks since makeup makes my skin super dry, and you can borrow some of my clothes and stuff,” she rambled off, and Lando squeezed your waist as a small push to say yes. He knew that you’d benefit from a girly night as opposed to a night by yourself at home, so he wanted you to go.
“Sure, yeah.” you beamed, already looking forward to spending the night with Lilly. You could learn more about her, and this was the proper start to a friendship that the two of you needed. Plus, it had been ages since you had had a proper girls night that didn't solely consist of you having a bath and watching a movie.
“I’ll see you Monday,” you said to Lando, since you were going over to his for the afternoon. The weekend was going to feel far too long knowing that he had to wait to see you, but he would just have to suck it up and deal with it for now.
“You will, and I can’t wait.” he smiled, bringing you in for a hug. He couldn't stop himself from leaning down to kiss you. It was a chaste peck on the lips, but it was still a feeling that he couldn’t quite get over. “Have fun, sunshine,” he said, the nickname slipping out like he had always called you that.
He could have gone for something a bit more cliche like ‘darling’ or ‘sweetheart’, but ‘sunshine’ seemed so fitting. You lit up his life like the sun in the sky, and his days would be a lot darker if you weren’t there. Your dress was also yellow like the sun, so it all seemed to work.
“Bye, gorgeous.” you said, and now it was Lando’s turn to blush. It was the perfect end to the night as Lando walked to his dad in the car, and you went off with Lilly to go to her house. His entire drive home was filled with replays upon replays of the night. His dad was refraining from asking him questions because he knew that his mum would have enough questions to last the entire night.
When you got back to Lilly’s you were overwhelmed by how lovely her parents were. When the two of you went to her room, her mum brought you up a plate of snacks with cookies that she had made earlier in the day, as well as some fruit that she had cut up and some other smaller bits, complete with two glasses of lemonade.
“I’ll grab you some pyjamas and then we can get everything off of our faces,” Lilly said, going into her wardrobe and getting both of you matching pyjamas. They were both sleep shirts with satin shorts, but her were with pink and white stripes and yours were blue and white. “Lemme get your zip,” she said, quickly moving behind you so that she could pull the zip down of your dress.
Once it was loose around your form, you slipped it off in the bathroom and replaced it with the pyjamas. They were so soft against your skin, and you now suddenly wanted a set of your own. Lilly took your dress off you and hung it up in her wardrobe next to her own, and now you were both ready to unwind.
“What kind of stuff do you usually use to take your make-up off?” she asked, and you couldn’t really come up with an answer for her. You never usually wore make-up, so you never had to take it off of your face.
“I don’t really know, normally I don’t wear make-up. I wash my face with a simple cleanser,” you told her, and you could tell that her brain was already combing through the inventory that she had in the bathroom.
“That’s fine, that’s fine. C’mon, let’s have a look,” she said, grabbing your hand and dragging you into the en suite that was connected to her room. It was strange how Lilly could go from the worst person in your life to someone who you were already getting really close to so quickly. Here you were, acting like you had been best friends for years, but in reality, you had just made up recently.
“Here, this should do the trick,” she said, handing you a bottle of micellar water. “You’ll need a lot, but it’s gentle on your skin and is really good at getting everything off. And you’ll need these,” Lilly explained, also giving you a pack of cotton pads.
“So I just pour it on here and go for it?” you asked, opening the cap and starting to pour a generous amount of water onto one of them. Lilly nodded, and you turned to face the mirror as you started wiping your face to get rid of the make-up.
Once you thought that you had it all, you turned to Lilly. “You’ve missed a few spots,” she said, taking another cotton pad from the packet, soaking it and wiping off the bits that you had missed on your face. She had one hand on your chin as she tilted your face around, making sure that she got everything.
You never thought that you would ever see her being so soft and gentle with you, since it was such a far cry from the girl from a couple of months ago. You could see yourself and this Lilly being good friends for a long time, you just hoped that she’d be able to keep it up. “There you go, looking gorgeous.” she laughed, throwing the cotton pads in the bin and putting the micellar water back in the drawer.
“I didn’t use this on you since I don’t know if your skin will react or anything,” she said, getting out the make-up remover that she normally used. It was a shock how considerate that she could be, but you had the feeling that this was the real Lilly. The one that you used to know was just bitter and jealous.
She quickly took off all of her make-up as well, before taking her hair out. One pull of the bobble and a few pins sent it tumbling down her shoulders. It was slightly greasy from using hairspray, but you knew that yours would be too. She quickly brushed it out, and it was now that you had noticed that she seemed to have dialled back on the blonde hair dye.
You knew that she wasn’t a natural blonde, she was a brunette judging by her dad’s hair and her mum’s slightly darker roots, but she had had it dyed for prom. It was still very blonde, but it wasn’t as bright and artificial as it had been. It was more toned down from what she used to have.
Despite the years of relentless dying, it was still luxuriously thick and looked really healthy. It was the type of hair that looked like it was destined to be plaited. “Can I plait your hair?” you blurted out, unsure of where your sudden boldness came from.
“Yeah, course you can. C’mon, we can sit on my bed.” she said, grabbing her hairbrush and a few bobbles as she went to sit on her comfy as hell looking bed. She had pillows galore, a thick duvet and plenty of fluffy blankets. The room was very pink and girly, but you absolutely loved it.
Your room was quite plain, but you liked it that way. This was the kind of bedroom that childhood you could have only dreamed of. Lilly sat on the bed with her back facing you, and you sat behind her. “Tell me if I pull or anything,” you said, brushing out any final knots and parting the hair into three strands. “Do you want any fancy plaits or is the normal one fine?”
“Can you do French?” she asked.
“I sure can,” you nodded, parting the hair accordingly and very gently weaving the strands in and out of each other. You had to undo some of your mistakes and go back, as well as de-knotting the hair a couple more times. But, after, you had 2 French plaits that you were happy with. “There, done.” you said, and Lilly went to check in her vanity mirror.
“Normally, I’d get my mum to do it but yours are way better. Don’t tell her,” she giggled, running her hands over the braids and feeling that there were no hairs out of place or any errors. “These are great,” she smiled, sitting back down on the bed and nibbling at the snacks that her mum had brought in.
“Can I do yours? I can only do basic plaits though, you’ll have to teach me how to do nice ones,” she said, shifting the position so that she was behind you. “Tell me if I hurt you or something,” she said, mirroring the warning that you had given her earlier.
She pulled a little bit when she was trying to pull some of the pins and elastic bands out of your hair, but she couldn’t help it. She had to tug a little to get some of them out, so you could live with it. Once she had pulled all of the pins out, you gave your head a good scratch to relieve the tension.
As she was brushing it though, there were a few times where she caught some knots harder than she wanted to. “Shit, sorry…” she mumbled every time, trying to tease the knots out instead of pulling at them.
Lilly kept asking if you were OK, or if she was pulling too hard or hurting you too much, and you told her that it was fine every time. Finally, she had gotten all of the knots out and she pulled it into a simple, three strand braid.
“Now that is a clean plait,” you complimented once she had bobbled off the bottom of the braid. Lilly moved to sit back against the pillows, so you followed suit and did the same.
“Do you wanna do face masks?” she asked. Although it was a request, you could tell that she wanted to by her tone. You nodded, knowing that she was desperate as she went into the bathroom and rummaged through her box of face-masks. “OK, so, I brought you a few to choose from because I don’t know what your skin likes.” she said, putting the packs down on the bed on front of you, then laying a towel over your laps when she sat down in front of you.
“We don’t really need these but they’re fun,” she giggled, pushing a fluffy headband onto your head, even if your hair was tied back. You could tell that she was thoroughly enjoying having a friend at her house, and you thought it was really sweet. She was really lovely underneath all of that cattiness.
“I love the charcoal ones, but I brought you a bunch to pick from,” she said, picking up the packet that had the charcoal mask in and ripping it open, collecting some of the black goo onto her fingers and spreading it on her cheeks. All you could do was laugh as she just smeared it around while missing a load of spots. It looked like she was doing some sort of shitty dalmatian cosplay.
“C’mere, let me do it,” you chuckled, squeezing some out of the packet and filling in the spots that you could see. “Now it’s my turn. Can you put it on?” you asked, handing her an aloe-vera sheet mask that was meant to be moisturizing.
“Course I can,” she grinned, wiping her sticky fingers off on the towel and pulling the sheet mask out of the pouch. She tried to line the designated holes up with your face, but it just looked weird. Lilly laughed at your wrinkled complexion, stealing your phone off of her nightstand to try and get a photo. “What’s your password?” she asked, and you were tentative to tell her but you couldn’t think of any harm in it.
“041108,” you said, thinking that she wouldn’t know what the numbers were. She didn’t say anything, but she knew it was Lando’s birthday. It was cute, she couldn’t deny that. Lilly just hoped that she could be able to have some of the cuteness to herself.
“Smile, pretty girl!” she laughed, snapping some pictures of you pulling silly faces while you looked like Freddy Krueger. “Here, look.” she cackled, her stomach aching from how much she was laughing. Once you saw the absolute state of yourself in the pictures, you were also in creases.
You were laughing for what felt like hours, but it was only a few minutes. A knock at her bedroom door broke you out of your fits of laughter, and it opened a crack before you saw Lilly’s mum. “Sorry, I don’t mean to interrupt. Do you girls want a hot chocolate or anything?” she asked.
“Yeah, please mum. Y/N?”
“If it’s not too much trouble.” you smiled.
“Cream and marshmallows?”
“Absolutely,” you chuckled, and Lilly also confirmed that she wanted some as well. You wouldn’t usually be drinking hot chocolate right before bed, but you thought that this was the perfect time to make an exception.
“Do you wanna watch a movie?” Lilly asked, shuffling under the covers on her side, and you followed suit. She flicked through the TV that was on the wall opposite her bed, before landing on the possibly most Lilly movies you could possibly think of: ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Mean Girls’. “Go on then, make the ultimate choice,” she said, letting you choose.
“Legally Blonde,” you said since you had seen that it was the musical version, and you loved the songs in it. It wasn’t long before her mum came in, putting the hot chocolates on the nightstands at either side of the bed.
“Y/N, do you want the spare room or are you OK to stay in here with Lills?” she asked before she left. You didn’t really want to stay in bed with Lilly since that felt invasive, but you didn’t want to make them change the sheets in the spare room once you had gone home.
“I’ll stay here, if that’s alright.”
“Yeah, course it is,” Lilly nodded, and her mum left the two of you in peace. You started watching Legally Blonde, laughing and singing along as the two of you sipped on the hot chocolate. The cream on top was a perfect swirl with pink and white marshmallows sprinkled on top. It was such good hot chocolate as well - it was the best one that you had ever had.
About halfway through, Lilly paused the movie to go and wash off her charcoal mask. You took the opportunity to grab your phone off of the nightstand and check your messages. You had one from Lando that was sent pretty much the second that you had parted at prom.
‘Hey sunshine, miss you already. Right, I hate how cheesy I sound so fuck that. How’s Lilly’s? Has she locked you in the dungeon yet? Do you need your dashing knight to rescue you?’ he had texted.
Instead, you sent him one of the pictures that Lilly had taken of you in the sheet mask, and Lando audibly laughed when he opened it. You were too cute for your own good.
‘Not locked in the dungeon, and she’s being really nice. Her mum is lovely as well. Just watching Legally Blonde, and I like cheesy. Cheesy is cute. Even if it completely takes away from the popular Lando Norris image. If it’s any consolation, I miss you too, gorgeous x’ you messaged back, putting your phone down when Lilly re-entered the room.
You knew that the two of you were being sickeningly cheesy, but you were happy to be cheesy with Lando. He made being cheesy feel far too easy.
“Are you going to take off your saggy skin now?” she asked, seeing that you still had the face mask on as you sat in bed.
“Yeah,” you said, going to the bathroom and peeling it off in the mirror. You dropped the mask into the bin, seeing how the serum had left a glowy residue on your face. You also took off the head band, putting it back into the drawer that you saw Lilly got it out of.
“Don’t you look refreshed?” she smiled as you came back into the room, shuffling back onto your side of the bed and resting back against the pillows.
“I feel refreshed,” you agreed, and Lilly pressed play on the TV remote so that you could continue watching the film. It had been a long day, and you could feel your eyes fluttering open and closed. Lilly spotted that, and she dimmed the lights in the room in case you did want to fall asleep.
The room becoming darker was all it took for you to fall asleep. Lilly noticed that you had dozed off and turned off the movie, as well as the lights. She pulled the blankets a little higher on your body before settling into bed herself.
Today had been long, and she sympathised with the fact that you would have been tired, since she was as well. You were both ready for sleep, and there was no point in forcing yourselves to stay awake.
Your dreams were filled with Lando and the kisses that you had shared through the night. It wasn’t really sinking in that you had had your first kiss, and you had had it at prom like in the movies. Everything about it was perfect, if you ignored the ten or so minutes of upset that had been caused by Max.
Now that you had kissed him once, you wanted to do it over and over and over again. You knew you had all summer to have him, and then hopefully a lot of time after that as well. There was always the thought that Lando might not be going to school with you anymore after results day. But, the memories of the kiss replaying combatted those thoughts for now.
“Y/N? Hey… wake up…” a voice roused you out of your slumber. You slowly opened your eyes, allowing them to adjust to the light that was streaming through the curtains. Lilly was leaning over you, her French plaits slightly messed up from them being slept on, but Lilly looked pretty wide awake.
“Sorry, I didn’t want to wake you up but it’s nearly 11.” she said. You never normally slept in that late, but it was apparent that your body just needed the sleep, and this had been the perfect opportunity to take it.
Lilly’s bed was so comfy, and the seemingly too many pillows were actually the perfect amount. The fluffy blankets were better than a warm hug, and it was like the entire setup was designed for the optimal nights sleep.
“Damn, sorry… normally I don’t sleep that much,” you chuckled, rubbing your eyes and trying to be a bit more alert.
“Don’t worry, it’s OK. I was just asking if you want pancakes, dad makes them every Saturday,” she told you. “And do you need a lift home? It doesn’t matter what time, my mum was just asking if you need a ride.”
“I’ll take up your offer of pancakes, but I’m not sure if I’ll need a ride. But I’ll check and let you know ASAP,” you smiled. Lilly nodded and got back out of bed, probably going downstairs to tell her dad that you would be having pancakes.
Now, it was your turn to envy Lilly. You could only dream of having your dad make pancakes on a Saturday, or having your mum make you snack plates and hot chocolate when you had friends over. You could only dream of being able to offer those friends a ride home instead of having to call their parents or walk them to the bus stop. You could only dream of having your family around.
You saw Lando more than you saw your own parents as of recent, and the thought of it was weighing heavily on you. For a while, you had gotten used to life by yourself for the most part. But now that you were being surrounded by people, the people that you didn’t have were sticking out like sore thumbs.
You could hear footsteps approaching the door, and you knew that Lilly was returning. You put on a happy face and tried to forget about the melancholy that you were feeling. “Pancakes will be ready in five.” she smiled, flopping back against the pillows and going on her phone.
You took the opportunity to do the same, spotting a text from Lando last night and this morning. ‘Legally Blonde? Sounds like a dungeon to me. And no, cheesy is not cute. Cheesy is only cute when it comes from you since you’re adorable. Anyway, are you free tomorrow? I want to see you.’
That was sent after your previous text, and he clearly wasn’t happy with the lack of response when he sent another one an hour ago. ‘You sure you aren’t in a dungeon? And if you’re not, I cannot believe that you are choosing Lilly over talking to me! I feel like I’m being cheated on! Please tell me you’re free today, mum is having her friends over and all of us are trying to get out of the house.’
‘Morning, sorry. I fell asleep watching the movie. And I am free today, I don’t know what time I’m getting home from Lilly’s, but I’ll let you know.’ you replied, and the response was almost instant.
‘Well at least I know you’re alive. What’s Lilly’s address? Dad will be happy to come get you if it means getting away from the wine-fest.’ Lando offered.
‘I am not letting your dad trail his ass all the way here just to pick me up. And she lives on Hawthorne Street, it’s called Orchard Cottage. But it’s not really a cottage.’ you told him. You weren’t going to let his dad come to pick you up for nothing. It wasn’t too far from your house, it would take you a while to walk back, but it would be fine.
You didn’t want Lilly’s parents or Lando’s dad going out of the way to take you home just because your parents weren’t there to do it. It wasn’t fair to any of them, including you.
‘I’ll be there at 12? It’s only a short walk from mine, and then we could maybe go over to yours?’ he texted, before following up with: ‘No, screw that. We’re going for lunch.’
Before you had a chance to reply, Lilly’s dad shouted up the stairs to tell you that the pancakes were ready. She was straight out of the door, and you sent a quick confirmation text to Lando that that sounded good.
On the dining table that was in the kitchen, there was an array of spreads and different things that you could possibly think of to put on your pancakes. “I haven’t had pancakes in ages, this looks amazing,” you said as Lilly’s dad, David, put the plate of pancakes down in the middle of the table.
“Thanks, Dad.” she said, sitting down at the table, and you sat down on the opposite side. You thanked them as well before tucking in. As you were eating, the small voice in your head told you that your mum’s pancakes were better, but you hadn’t had them in a long time so you couldn't really remember if they were anymore. These were pretty damn good though.
“Thank you for the offer, but I don’t need a ride home, I’m gonna go into town with a… friend. But thanks,” you said, glad that you weren’t going to be getting in anyone's way. You didn’t really know what to refer to Lando as right now, since you hadn’t officially put a label on it. But, you felt like a girlfriend.
“No worries, love.” her mum smiled from her seat at the table. All four of you were eating breakfast, and you assumed that this was what it was like to live in a normal family. It probably wasn’t like this normally, but it was enough for now. “I’ve left some clothes outside of Lilly’s door, but you can choose from her entire wardrobe. Don’t worry about your dress, I can drop it off or you can pick it up. Whatever’s easier.”
To be honest, you had completely forgotten about your prom dress. You wouldn't be able to carry it around when you and Lando went for lunch, but you were happy to leave it there until a later date. You’d come and get it when your parents were home at some point so that she didn’t have to bring it to your house and she didn’t have to go out of her way.
You all finished breakfast, and you tried to help them with the dishes but they refused your assistance. Instead, you and Lilly headed upstairs to get ready, and you were checking the time to see when Lando would be getting there.
“Are you going into town with Lando?” Lilly asked while she picked up the pile of clothes that her mum had left outside of the door and put them down onto her bed.
“Yeah, we’re probably just going for lunch and hang out for a bit,” you nodded. You thought that Lilly was going to get upset, but instead, a smile broke out on her face.
“We’ve got to get you all dressed up and pretty then,” she smirked, her mind already getting into makeover mode.
“It’s nothing special, I wasn’t really planning on going all out,” you said. You had never really dressed up to go and see Lando because he had always been more than happy with what you always came as. There wasn’t really much harm in going all out, though.
“Pfft, no. I refuse to listen to that. I am getting you dolled up and there is nothing that you can do about it,” she scoffed, grabbing your hand and dragging you over to the bathroom so that she could do your makeup. You quickly found out that you didn’t have the same skin tone, so that meant that foundation was off the table, but she did the rest of it.
It wasn’t as all out as you had gone the night before for prom, but it was still a hell of a lot more than you were used to. You liked the look of your face with makeup, but you didn’t want to get too used to the altered version of you. You knew that you were pretty with and without it, and that was more than enough for you.
While you waited for her to rustle through her clothes for something for you to wear, you just sat on her bed. Lilly put together two options for you, and you couldn’t help but chuckle at what she had chosen for you. You liked the girly style of them, and it was the type of stuff that you had always wanted to wear, but had never made an effort to buy.
One of the outfits was a white summer dress with pink flowers printed all over the fabric with an open back, and you already knew that you were going to pick that one. It was gorgeous. The other outfit was a white shirt with a pretty yellow skirt that was no doubt a nod to your prom dress. But, you instantly picked up the dress and went to put it on in the bathroom.
You admired yourself for a moment, enjoying the way that it made you look. It wasn’t too short to make you feel exposed, but it was short enough to show off your legs. “Well don’t you just look like a princess?” Lilly smiled as you returned to her. In her hand, she was holding a pair of white sandals.
“Why thank you. I promise, I’ll get all of this back to you ASAP,”
“There’s no rush, I don’t really wear it that much anymore. Besides, it suits you way better than it suits me,” she said. Checking the time, you saw that it was nearly time for Lando to arrive and for the two of you to go out. “I’m sure Romeo will be on time, so I won’t keep you waiting. Text me everything, OK?” she said.
Lilly had accepted that she would just have to live vicariously through you for now, but she was sure that she would find her own Lando eventually. You hugged her, telling you that you would be in contact soon and that you should meet up in the holidays. Lilly had also said that she should take you to a football game one day. It wouldn’t have been your first choice, but you’d do it for her.
You thanked her parents for having you, and they were very happy to say that you were welcome any time and that you were a joy to have in the house. They didn’t say it, but you thought they seemed glad that Lilly had a friend, well, a proper friend. You were safe to assume that Lilly had been quite lonely over the past couple of years, and getting to have a friend to stay over was one of the best things for her.
As soon as you walked out of the doors, you saw Lando rounding the corner. “There’s my sunshine,” he smiled, kissing you as soon as he was in front of you. “You look absolutely stunning. I haven’t seen that dress before but I like it. A lot.” he smiled.
“It’s Lilly’s. She decided that today we were having a mini makeover and here we are.” you told him. Lando thought that you were always pretty, you didn’t need makeup to be the most gorgeous girl in the world. That wasn’t to say that he didn’t like the new look, but he would never complain about the normal, perfect you. “It’s the kind of thing that I’ve always wanted to wear, I guess.”
On the walk to town and to the cafe that he had researched the night before, the two of you held hands and talked about your evenings. You told him all about your sleepover, and he was glad that you had a nice time. He might not have fully trusted Lilly, which was fair given everything that she had done to the two of you over the past year, but you seemed happy enough.
His night was less fun, however. After telling his mum about the entire evening for what felt like hours but was only thirty minutes, he went to his room to get ready for bed and text you. He had been sent a barrage of messages from Max, apologising for being such a dick all year and saying how his childish humour wasn’t worth losing his best friend over.
It was probably the most mature thing that Max had ever said, but Lando wasn’t going to forgive him easily. He had nearly ruined the best night of his life, and that wasn’t something that he was willing to let go lightly. He was grateful that he was seeing you here today, though.
There was no way that he was going to be able to wait until Monday to meet you, so getting to have you now was perfect. When you had arrived at the cafe, Lando pulled your chair out like the gentleman he was, and you both looked at the menu and ordered. The place was a quaint little Italian called Frerickson’s, and you had been there a few times with your grandmother when you were younger. It was a family business, and pretty much every member of staff there was part of the family.
“What were her parents like? Did they seem like the type to raise a demon child?” he asked, and all you could do was laugh.
“No, no they didn’t. They were perfectly lovely, actually. It was really weird having such attentive adults in the house,” you said, thinking that it was normal to have parents like yours.
“Attentive?”
“Yeah. Like… bringing snacks and making a really nice breakfast for my friends when they come over. That kind of thing. I’m not used to that.” you told him, and the smile on his face quickly disappeared. He knew that your parents were rarely home, but hearing about this broke his heart.
“So what do they do?”
“They’re never normally here, so nothing. I don’t mind it though, being alone isn’t so bad.” you said, and he knew that it was a complete lie. There was no way that you liked being on your own all the time. Everyone enjoyed alone time, but that was to a whole other level.
“So you cook for yourself and stuff?” Lando asked, even if he already knew the answer.
“Yeah,” you nodded. He was hurt to hear that you didn’t get the usual, parent-like love that him and so many other kids did. He couldn’t understand how people’s parents could prioritise working over the wellbeing of their child.
“All you have to do is text me, OK? You can come to mine for dinner whenever you want, or you can just say the word and come over after school or on the weekend. If you feel lonely, you come to me. My parents would be happy to have you,” he told you. There was no way in hell that he was just letting you sit in your empty, lonely house when you could have been at his.
You wouldn’t have to make your own dinner or sit in your own company, you could just be in his house with his parents and his family like you deserved. “I don’t want to be a hassle,” you said, dismissing his offer.
“You’re never a hassle, sunshine. I can’t stand the thought of you being alone when you could be with me. And if I never hear from you, then I’ll just come over and pick you up with my dad,” he said, and you knew he was serious. “Are your parents home today?”
You shook your head no, just like he thought you would. “Then you’re coming to mine after lunch,” he instructed. Another impromptu house-stay wasn’t something to complain about, even if you were thinking about the logistics of it all. “And you’re staying over.”
You were thinking of if you’d get to sleep in his room or if you’d be banished to the couch, if you’d get to wear his clothes to bed since you didn't have any of your own on you. Still, the thought of spending the night with Lando was making your heart race. “I won’t take no for an answer, OK?”
“You say that as if I don’t want to come over to yours. But I might have to stop at mine on the way home to pick up some pjs,” you said.
“You can wear mine,” he told you, and you couldn’t respond as your food arrived. Both of you had gone for a classic pepperoni pizza, and it was just as good as you had remembered it being. The topic of your less than stellar parents had been dropped for the time being, and you were allowed to focus on spending time with Lando.
“Are you all packed for your holiday?” Lando asked, not looking forward to the week that he was going to be spending without you next week. He was barely able to go 24 hours without seeing you, let alone a whole week with barely even getting messages from you since you would be enjoying yourself.
“Not yet, I need to make outfits and stuff.” you said, already hoping that Lilly would let you borrow this dress for your holidays. You were excited for your holiday, since it was the one you got to go on every year. You would be able to spend a week with your parents without them being distracted by work, more or less.
“Can I help?” he said, and that was not what you were expecting to come out of his mouth. It was cute, though.
“I mean, if you want to. I can’t say I trust your fashion sense when it comes to my clothes, but you can.”
“I have a sister, I know what I’m doing.” he smirked. You doubted his outfit making capabilities, but you would never turn down spending quality time with him. “Spain isn’t going to know what hit them when you get there. I might have to come with you just so that everyone knows you’re taken,” he chuckled.
Lando wished that it was a joke, but he was deadly serious. He could only dream of the day that the two of you got to go on holiday together. It would likely be his first ever holiday without his parents, and he was already thinking of ways to save money so that you could go somewhere nice together.
“You’re ridiculous,” you laughed with a mouthful of pizza.
“It’s true! Those Spaniards are going to try and sweep you off of your feet, and I can’t have that. I need them to know that you’re mine,” he said. “Plus, do you even have to go? I want you to stay home with me…” he pouted.
“You’re not being serious right now.” you chuckled, even if you knew that he was. The boy was clingy. It wasn’t like you minded, but you knew he was going to hate it when you were on holiday. You wouldn’t have been surprised if he tried to get in your suitcase just so that he could come with you.
“Definitely not…” he laughed. You both knew he wasn’t joking, but you also knew that you were going on holiday regardless. He was as well, and you weren’t going to whine at him about it. But, Lando would be Lando.
You finished your meals and Lando paid, even if you were the only one of the two of you who was employed. He just liked treating you like the princess he thought you were. “My dad should be here soon to pick us up. Mum is wrapping up wine day with the ladies, so he is eager to escape for a little while.” he said, taking your hand as you stood on the pavement while you waited for his dad. It had barely even been 24 hours since your first kiss, but he was acting like the two of you had been together for years.
His dad pulled up to the pavement and you both got into the back of the car. “We’re taking the long route home because Sharon is talking about the divorce again and I cannot deal with it,” his dad sighed the second that you were in the car.
“Again? It’s been 5 years. If she was that in love with Simon, then why did she cheat on him?” Lando asked.
“If anyone knew the answer to that, then we wouldn’t have to have the conversation every single time we see her. Heather encourages it though, that’s the problem.” he said. You didn’t have a clue who any of these people were, but you were happy to listen to the drama as it was very entertaining.
“Essentially, the story is that Sharon cheated on her husband Simon with the apprentice that she was mentoring at work. Simon found out, filed for divorce then got with his secretary, who he is still with to this day, and Sharon likes to make out like she’s the victim and like it’s Simon’s fault that everything fell to shit- I mean that everything fell apart.” Lando said, choking back the swear when he remembered that his dad was in the car.
“Everything did fall to shit, and now we have to listen to her whinge about it every single bloody time we’re near her. And Heather is all like ‘yes babe, you do you, get your own back on that P.O.S!’ and I do not know why your mother just lets them be delusional.” he ranted, and you and Lando were just left laughing in the back seat.
“Yeah, but Heather can’t hold down a man for more than a month. What was her record, two months with that Keith guy?”
“Mhm, two months with Keith and then she broke up with them because their chakras didn’t align or some shit,” his dad said. The journey was filled with Lando and Adam rambling on about Cisca’s friend choices, and you eventually pulled into their driveway. The cars of all of her friends were still there, and Adam was seriously contemplating going for another loop around the block.
“Y/N, I’m sure they’ll love nagging you instead of me so goodbye and good luck.” he saluted you, getting out of the car and going into the garage instead of going into the house like you and Lando were going to have to.
“They’re not that bad, I promise.” Lando said, but you didn’t believe a word of it. You both entered through the front door, and all of the women at the kitchen island squealed when you came in.
“Lando! When did you get so handsome?” the woman who you assumed to be Sharon shouted at the sight of him.
“And you must be Y/N! Aren’t you just a gorgeous little mayflower?” said another one of the women at the table, and you knew she was Heather. She was covered in all sorts of different patterns with every different colour of jewellery known to man on.
“Yeah, I’m Y/N.” you nodded with a smile.
“It’s so nice that Lando finally has someone, you two look adorable with each other.” another one of the ladies whose names you didn’t know.
“We’ll be in my room.” Lando said, taking your hand and dragging you towards the stairs. You had never been to Lando’s house before, so you had never been able to see any of it. It was modern with a lot of grey and white tones, and the upstairs was no exception.
“Keep the door open!” Sharon cackled up after you, and all you did was blush deeply. Lando would be a liar if he said that the thought hadn’t crossed his mind when he had decided that he was bringing you to his room, but the two of you were far off of that stage in your relationship.
“Yeah, there was no way in hell that we were staying down there, Sharon and Heather are already tipsy and I could tell that Charlene was getting prepared to ask you far too many questions.” he said, closing his bedroom door behind him.
Lando’s room had large windows that were overlooking the massive garden, but his room had a cosy vibe. His bed looked like the comfiest thing that you had ever seen, with loads of fluffy blankets and pillows. “If we have it our way, this is where you’ll be staying. If you’re comfortable, that is.”
He rushed to add the last part because he didn't want you to feel like you had to sleep in his bed if you didn’t want to. “Hell yeah, this bed looks so comfy,” you smiled, flopping down on it. Lando loved how comfortable and settled you were around him, and he was glad that you felt like you could just get in his bed.
“Leave some space for me, sunshine.” he smiled, watching as you shimmied over to the other side of the bed. You had gone to the side that you slept on, and it was convenient that Lando slept on the opposite side to you so there wouldn’t be any squabbles about which side was who’s. “C’mere,” he softly said, opening his arms out to you.
Did you know how to cuddle? No. But, neither did Lando, so it was something that the two of you could work through together. You shuffled over to his side of the bed, snuggling into his side as you rested your head on his chest. Lando’s arms found comfortable places around you, and he suddenly realised why people enjoyed snuggling so much.
“Do you wanna watch a movie? Might give us enough time for the cacklers to leave.” Lando chuckled, grabbing the remote off of his bedside table.
“Yeah, sure. Put on whatever you want,” you told him, and he navigated through the TV system to find a chilled comedy that you wouldn’t have to think about too much. Every time they made a stupid joke, Lando’s laughs rumbled through his chest. You were so comfy that you were battling sleep, but the movie was nearly over.
"I'll go check if they’re gone, OK?” he said, kissing you on the top of your head and leaving you in his bed. You could see yourself waking up here, sleeping here, living your life here. There was such a nice vibe around his house, something so warm and homey. It felt like you belonged here.
Lando had removed himself for two reasons. The first being that he did have to check that his mum’s friends had gone so that they could finally be in his kitchen without being heckled. The second being that he needed to take a minute to calm himself down. Having you in his arms, in his bed, was more than his teenage brain could handle.
He felt a bit like a neanderthal with how possessive he felt over you and how he just wanted to keep you safe and protected from the outside world, but he had to try and rein himself in. He couldn’t start being overly protective or possessive of you because that would undoubtedly drive you away, and he would understand why.
Thankfully, his mum’s friends had disappeared and he could finally relax. “Where’s Y/N?” his mum asked from behind the kitchen island, with all of the ingredients ready to bake… something.
“She’s just upstairs, we were watching a movie while we waited for the posse to leave.” Lando explained. “What are you baking?”
“Chocolate chip cookies. Do the two of you want to help?” she offered, and Lando thought that it could be fun to bake with you.
“I’ll ask her,” he said, turning around and returning to his room. His heart stopped in his chest at the sight of you snoozing in his bed. You would have buried your face in his pillow, but you were conscious of the fact that you had makeup on and didn’t want to smear it everywhere.
Despite this, Lando thought it was adorable how you were snuggled up under the covers. He wanted to just let you sleep, but he also wanted you to bake with him. “Sunshine? Hey…” he whispered, brushing some hair out of your face.
You sleepily blinked at him, and he felt evil for waking you up. “Do you want to keep napping or do you want to come and bake with me and mum?” he asked you.
“I’ll come bake with you,” you said without a second thought. As comfy as Lando’s bed was, you weren’t just here to sleep, you could do that any time when you were at home. Baking with your boyfriend was far more enjoyable.
You shuffled out of bed, trying to make your hair a little more presentable and less like you had just gotten out of bed, even if you had. Lando led you back downstairs, getting the both of you set up at the kitchen counter while his mum took a seat on the couch to leave you to it.
“Step one, preheat the oven.” he read off of the recipe, turning around the switch the oven on. “Ok, step two: soften butter and sugar.” he read, putting the butter on a plate and putting it in the microwave to soften.
Meanwhile, you were measuring out the sugars and putting them into the big mixing bowl. Lando had let the butter go for a little bit too long, and it was more melted than softened on the plate, but it would just have to do.
While you baked, his mum was just smiling at how cute the two of you were together. She was close to being mad at Lando throwing flour at you and getting it all over the kitchen at the same time, but it was too sweet to be angered by it.
“Lando! Oi!” you laughed, trying to run away from the flour-y onslaught. But, as you tried to flee, Lando wrapped an arm around your waist and dragged you back to him, tickling your sides until you were begging for surrender. He couldn’t help but boop some flower onto your nose before he was done tormenting you, taking in the white powder that was covering you.
Just as Lando thought a peace deal had been made, you threw some flour at him to get even. “Hey! That’s not fair!” he whined, trying to get the flour out of his hair as if you weren’t completely covered in the stuff.
“Says the guy who ambushed me first with absolutely no prior warning,” you rolled your eyes at him.
“You’re mean.” Lando pouted, giving you the silent treatment for all of five seconds before springing back into conversation while you were baking. Cisca was slightly concerned about how long it would take to clean all of the flour off of the counters and floor, but she would cope somehow. Her son was happy, so there was nothing to complain about.
“I think we need more chocolate chips,” Lando said, looking at the dough in the bowl that already had too many chocolate chips, arguably.
“I think there’s more than enough,” you said, trying to be the sensible one out of the two of you. Lando would just eat the raw cookie dough if you let him, unbothered by not having heat treated flour and raw eggs.
Lando mischievously grinned at you before dumping the rest of the chocolate chips into the dough. “Oops…” he chuckled, starting to mix them in. He was childish at times, but that was something that added to that boyish charm of his. “The chocolate chips are the best bit anyway,” he laughed, and all you could do was shake your head at him.
“Do we have to bake them? I just want to eat them now.” Lando said, looking at the dollops of cookie batter that were sitting on the parchment paper covered tray. He clearly wasn’t the most patient of people, especially when it came to waiting for food.
“Lando-” you started, about to tell him exactly why you had to bake the cookies.
“Sunshine, please?” he pleaded, as if giving you the puppy eyes and calling you by the nickname that made you melt would make you cave. Because it would. He was a slippery little devil and he knew exactly what he was doing.
“Lando, you have to bake them.” Cisca interjected, knowing that you were fighting a losing battle. She found it hard to say no to Lando, and she knew that you would as well. “They’ll be done before you know it,” she said, taking the tray away from him and putting it into the oven.
“I’ll clean this up, you two go and relax before dinner.” she said.
“Are you sure? I don’t mind helping to clean up. We made a bit of a mess…” you offered, your eyes scanning over the white dust that covered all of the surfaces, as well as all of the bowls and utensils piled up in the sink. You felt bad that she would have to clean up all of your mess by herself.
“It’s fine, sweetheart. You should probably change into something with less flour on it, anyway.” she chuckled, looking you up and down. She was right. Lilly’s dress that you had borrowed were covered in flour, and you would definitely have to wash it before you gave it back to her.
“Thanks, mum!” Lando said, taking your hand and dragging you back up to his room. Cisca had a soft smile on her face as she watched you go, glad that her son had found someone seemingly perfect for him. You were polite, but you would put Lando in his place.
“I’ll get you something you can wear, hang on…” Lando said, pushing you so that you were sitting on his desk chair while he rooted through his drawers and wardrobe. Eventually, he settled on a plain black shirt and some tartan pyjama bottoms. “Bathroom’s in there,” he said, pointing you to the en suite that he had.
If it was up to him, you would be changing in front of him, but he wasn’t going to push for it. You’d do it when you were ready, and all he could do was respect that. Closing the bathroom door behind you, you quickly checked your phone and saw a few texts from Lilly. ‘Heya! How’s your hot date going? Was lover boy dumbfounded by how gorgeous you are?’ she had written, and you let out an audible laugh.
‘Sure he was 😂’ you replied, getting straight into changing. The shirt wasn’t a bad fit - you assumed that it was one of his old ones since it was on the smaller side. The pants were way too big and you had to pull the string pretty tight to get them to stay up, but they were soft against your skin.
“Well don’t you just look absolutely adorable?” Lando smiled when you emerged from the bathroom all bundled up in his clothes. He had also gotten changed into a white shirt and blue pyjama bottoms, so the two of you were kinda matching. “C’mere, you.” he quietly said, approaching you and placing his hand on your hips. He loved seeing you in his clothes, it reminded him that you were finally all his and he had you know. After everything, he had you all to himself.
You just looked at each other for a few seconds before Lando leant his head down to kiss you. All of the kisses that you had shared so far had been soft, brief. This one was different, You wrapped your arms around his neck as he pulled you closer to deepen the kiss, your lips moving on their own.
He walked the two of you back towards the bed without breaking the kiss, sitting down and pulling you with him so that you were straddling his lap. Without realising, you were shifting your hips on his to try and get into a more comfortable position, but Lando was feeling something else completely.
It was like all of his blood had rushed south, but what was expected from him when he was making out with his girlfriend for the first time and she was practically grinding on his lap? He wanted to tell you to stop before his problem became more noticeable, but it was apparent that he was too far gone when your lips parted so that you could get some air.
Your cheeks were flushed red and you couldn’t make eye contact with him. “Just ignore it, OK? Don’t worry about it.” he breathed, not wanting you to feel pressured into anything that you weren’t ready for. You knew that it was the natural response, and you weren’t mad, you were just caught off guard.
You couldn’t believe that you had this kind of effect on him, and you weren’t sure how to react at this point in time. To try and distract yourself from the limbo that was going on in your head, you leaned back in to kiss him with the same passion as before. “Guys! Dinner!” his mum suddenly shouted, forcing you to break the kiss and take a second to breathe.
“Don’t want to…” Lando whined, going to kiss you again but you pushed him away.
“Come on,” you said, getting off of his lap and going to walk to the kitchen.
“I need the bathroom…” Lando said, leaving you to go downstairs while he went to sort out his problem that couldn’t be ignored. He had never felt more like a teenage boy than he had done in that moment, but it was better to do this than embarrass himself in front of his family.
You had dinner with his family and then ate the cookies that you had made afterwards, but all you and Lando were thinking about was your makeout session from earlier. You felt fuzzy on the inside when you thought about it, but Lando was trying to keep his mind off of it so that he could avoid any more… issues.
While you and Lando did the dishes, his mum called over from the spot that she was sitting on on the couch. “Y/N, sweetheart, I’m all for you spending time in Lando’s room during the day, but would it be OK if I ask you to sleep in the spare room tonight?” she asked, and you could see where she was coming from from a motherly perspective. That didn’t mean you were happy about it, though.
You wanted to sleep snuggled up in Lando’s arms, wrapped up in his warmth. You wouldn’t be able to get it your way today, but that didn’t mean you wouldn’t be able to later down the line. Lando, on the other hand, was not as understanding. He wanted you in his arms while you slept, and there was no way that he would be doing anything like his mum was insinuating, especially not with his family in the other rooms.
“But mum-” he started to complain, but she instantly cut him off.
“No, Lando. There’s no negotiating with this one,” she said. Cisca never normally told the kids no, so having to be so stern with him wasn’t something she was enjoying. But, she knew that it was a necessary evil when it came to parenting teenagers through relationships.
Lando went off to his room with a sulk, and you followed him in. The rest of the evening was spent with the two of you doing your new favourite hobby and having to stop and act like nothing was up when his mum came in and asked if you needed anything before bed like water or tea.
The two of you thought that you were being suave and made sure that it wasn’t obvious, but she knew what you had been up to. And, that was exactly the reason why you weren’t allowed to sleep in the same bed. She knew that she was making the right decision.
Eventually, midnight rolled around and you were getting sleepy. Lando’s mum hadn’t specified a bed time for you since it was the summer holidays, but she wanted it to be reasonable. “Can’t you just fall asleep in here and I can say there was nothing I could do?” Lando asked, tightening his grip on you when you tried to get out of bed.
“I don’t want to get banned from staying over on my first night,” you told him, and he unfortunately knew that you were right.
“She won’t ban you…” he tried to convince himself, but he knew that his mum could be fierce when she wanted to be. “Fine, fine. Leave me here in this cold bed where I’ll be all by myself.” he whined, finally releasing his hold on you.
Before you could go, he pulled you in for a final goodnight kiss. The feeling of kissing him never got old, and the warm feeling that it brought you was something you couldn’t get enough of. “Goodnight, sunshine.” he whispered against your lips.
“Goodnight, gorgeous.” you returned, getting up and taking yourself to the spare bedroom. It was lovely like all of the rooms in the house were, but it didn’t have the same feel as Lando’s room did. You were tired and yawning as you clambered into the comfy bed and snuggled down under the covers. You were asleep within minutes with the thoughts of Lando on your mind.
On the other hand, Lando was wide awake and suddenly uncomfortable now that you weren’t in his arms. He was soothed by your weight on his chest and the gentle sounds of your breathing, and now that he didn’t have it, he was struggling to settle.
He was tossing and turning in bed while he missed you, trying to convince himself that he was being stupid. You were right next door and he would see you when he woke up. All he had to do was sleep for a few hours and he could hold you again. His attempts seemed futile, though.
It had felt like hours since you had left, but when he rolled over to check the clock on his bedside table, it turned out that it had only been half an hour. It was nearing 1am, and had already decided he was caving. With a frustrated huff, Lando got out of bed and very quietly padded over to your room, closing the door to his behind him so that no one would notice he wasn’t in his bed.
Very quietly opening your door, he saw your outline beneath the covers through the darkness. He gently got into bed behind you, shuffling up to you so that he was spooning you from behind as he draped his arm over your waist. He had hoped that you wouldn’t notice.
But, you had felt the dip in the mattress beside you and the sudden warmth, as well as his breath on your neck. You weren’t worried since you knew exactly who it was, but you were scared of getting caught and told off. “Lando…” you mumbled, and hearing his name in that sleepy voice was doing things to him that he wasn’t proud to admit.
“Shhh, go back to sleep, sunshine. I’ll be gone by the morning, mum will never know,” he told you, and you were too tired to process. “Just let me hold you,” he whispered against your neck, leaning up to press a quick kiss to your temple before settling back down against the pillows. You were asleep again nearly as quickly as you had woken up, and Lando was now able to sleep like a baby.
He was slightly concerned that he was now becoming dependent on having you by his side in order to sleep, but that was something he could ignore for now. He couldn’t even spend an evening without you, let alone a whole week when you went on holiday and when he went on holiday.
For now, though, he was just able to relish in the feeling of having you there. When he opened his eyes, you were still fast on his arms, but there was light poking through the gaps in the curtains. He could hear the faint sounds of conversations of his siblings and parents in the kitchen. He leant over you and tapped your phone screen to see that it was nearing on 10am, and he was surprised that his mum hadn’t come in to check on him and then seen that he wasn’t in his bed.
Well, she hadn’t to his knowledge. But she had. She walked in at 9am, expecting to see her son fast asleep in his bed. But no. He wasn’t there. She then expected to see the two of you talking in the spare room. But no. She went in and the two of you were curled up on one side of the bed, peacefully sleeping together.
Was she slightly annoyed that he had completely gone against her orders? Yes. Yes she was. But, she was just happy that her darling son was just so… in love. It was far too early for her or the two of you to put a label on, but she knew what love looked like. She would pretend like she hadn’t seen it, but she would have to be a bit more observant of the two of you.
“Hey… Sunshine? Y/N, wake up.” he mumbled in your ear, trying to shake you awake. “Baby, you’ve got to wake up… It’s late…” he tried again, suddenly panicking that his mum might walk in, even if she wouldn’t because she already knew.
“Hm… Lando no… too comfy,” you whined back, rolling over to snuggle back into his chest. Your hair was messy after sleeping on it and your eyes were barely open, and there was nothing he wanted more than to cuddle back down with you and just bear the non-existent consequences of his actions.
“I know, I know. But I slept in and I don’t want mum getting mad, I’ve got to go.” he told you, kissing your forehead before dashing out and into his room. Cisca had heard his footsteps across the hall upstairs, but she’d play at blissful innocence.
She gave him a few minutes to sweat, then went upstairs to find him sitting up in bed, on his phone as if he hadn’t been in bed with you no more than ten minutes ago. “Morning, sweetheart,” she smiled, opening his curtains and kissing him on the top of the head. “Is Y/N awake?” she asked. Cisca was really struggling to not just tell Lando that she knew about his night time escapades, but she’d refrain for now.
“I don’t know, I’ll go and check on her.” Lando grinned, pretending that he didn’t know you were awake because he had been the one to wake you up. He walked back into your room, sitting on the edge of the bed beside you. “Hey…” he mumbled, checking if you had fallen back asleep. “C’mon, pretty girl.”
Lando was pushing your hair out of your face gently, and his heart melted when your tired eyes looked up at him. “There she is,” he smiled, resisting the urge to just get back into bed with you and snuggle all day. “You’ve gotta get up, it’s breakfast time. Well, brunch.” he chuckled, and you slowly sat up.
Now this was the life that he wanted. The life that he needed. The perfect life with you where you just took every day as it came and enjoyed yourselves. The life where you were all his. Just as you were rolling out of bed, Lando glanced down at his phone.
There it was, another text from Max. Another text that he didn’t want to answer. Another apology. He’d have to sort it out, but he’d do that another day. Today, he was going to focus on you.
A/N - Well guys... erm... here you go. I know, it has been AAAAAGES since I last posted a part of your favourite series, but here I am with an extra juicy one. I can't express how much I adore this series, and I'm glad you do too! I think the next part of this will have to be a Christmas Special AU or something, since I won't be able to get what I planned to have out next done in time for Christmas, and I think this would be a better Chrimbo special. Dad!Lando is still in the works, going well. Love y'all 💖💖
missing the lando nerd series like craaazy!! hope your well :))
The series that I have fallen oh so in love with, and I hope you've been enjoying it as much as I am! Thought I would put it all here so that it doesn't look super bulky on the master list.
Something has been finished... something that happens to be my greatest hit on this page... something that has to do with a certain Lando Norris and a certain nerd... something that is coming out tomorrow at 7pm GMT...
Being at home for Lando was something that he wasn't used to, but was something that he greatly appreciated when he had the time. The people around there knew him, so they weren't interested in taking photos with him or getting autographs, they just let him live his life.
Today, he felt like taking a walk down memory lane. Lando took himself down the road from his childhood home and remembered the many times that he had done it throughout his life. It was like when he was a child again and him, his brother and his sister would go to the park together.
It was nice to ignore the hecticness of his every day life and just enjoy the precious memories that reminded him of when times were simpler. As he was walking, he saw what appeared to be a mother with her little boy on the slide.
She was sat at the top with the toddler on her lap, both of them with massive grins on their faces. There was something about her that looked familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he knew her from.
As carried on walking, enjoying the wholesomeness of the scene that reminded him of him with his mum when he was little. He heard the little boy giggling as they slid down as he clapped his hands. Just as quickly as they had gotten to the bottom of the slide, the toddler was up and running towards the swings.
"Theo, slow down, honey. I don't want you falling." she called out to him, but the boy paid no attention and carried on running on wobbly legs. Lando knew that voice, he knew he did. It stirred an unfamiliar feeling in him, one that he hadn't felt in a long time.
The little boy, Theo, stopped just short of the swings, turning around and looking at his mum expectantly. Lando just stood and watched since the pair hadn't noticed him. He was wracking his brains to try and remember where he knew her from.
She picked Theo up and put him in one of the baby-safe swings, his chubby little legs slotting through the holes as he held onto the handle bars. He kicked about as his mum gently pushed him, not too hard so that he wasn't going too high.
That was when it hit him like a tonne of bricks. You. It was you. He remembered you. The two of you had been close friends when you were young and you went to quite a lot of his races in the early days. He had quite a bit of a crush on you from what he remembered, hence the strange, unfamiliar feeling.
Once he had moved on in his motorsport career, the two of you lost touch. It wasn't an active decision, but the connection fizzled out and you both moved on with your lives. Yet, here you were.
He didn't know whether to say something or leave you in the moment with Theo, who had a striking resemblance to you. There was no doubt in his mind that the little one was yours, the physical similarities and the motherly love that radiated off of you told him everything he needed to know.
While he was making the decision of whether he should talk to you or not, Theo pointed straight at him. Just as you were gently scolding the toddler not to point at people as it's rude, you looked up to actually look at who he was pointing at.
"Lando?" you called out without a second thought. You'd seen him on the TV and in the news because of his career, but you never thought you'd ever see him in the flesh again. You liked him when you were kids. He was funny, and he had always been handsome to you. He was just an all around nice guy.
You had always been happy for him, since he had always made it very clear that F1 was his dream and he had actually gone on to achieve it. You had fond evocations of going to his karting races on the weekend and cheering him on, but growing apart was part of growing up.
"Y/N, hey." he greeted, pushing open the blue park gate and coming to stand beside you as you pushed Theo on the swings. "How have you been? It's been what... 8 years or something?" he asked, not able to take his eyes off the toddler.
"It's been that long? Wow. It has been a busy 8 years, I'll tell you that." you chuckled, following his eyeline over to Theo and how fixated he was on him. "How have you been?"
"Oh, you know, busy being famous and all that," he joked, and it was like he had never changed. He still had the attitude that you had adored, even as a grown man.
"Ah, of course. How could I forget?" you laughed as Theo started to wriggle around in his swing as he wanted to get out. "C'mere, honey." you mumbled as you hoisted your little one into your arms, balancing him on your hip.
"And who is this adorable little man?" Lando asked, getting a closer look at Theo. He had your eyes and hair, but his nose was different to yours. He had the same fullness that your lips had, but they were a bit of a different shape. Though, he had the same dimples as you when he giggled.
"This is Theo, he's just over one and a half at the moment." you smiled, bouncing him lightly to keep him entertained. Theo wasn't one just to sit around and do nothing, he always had to be active until it was bedtime. Once he was all tuckered out, he was as snuggly as ever until he fell asleep.
"Is he...?" Lando trailed off, not knowing how to ask the question. He was confident that Theo was yours, but Lando wanted to confirm before asking any follow-up questions.
"Yeah, he is. He's my pride and joy," you sincerely grinned, looking at your son. It was clear that he was your entire world, and Lando knew that the child was lucky to have you as his mother. He was trying to get a glimpse of your left hand to see if he could spot a ring, but he couldn't see.
He felt weird asking if you were in a relationship or if Theo's dad was still in the picture. It seemed like too much too soon for him, especially after not seeing you for nearly a decade. "Do you still live around here?"
"Yeah, I moved back just before I had him. I wanted to be at home so that I had everyone around to help me out," you explained. If you moved back home, surely that meant that you didn't have a partner to support you after you had just given birth, right?
"Was his dad not...?" Lando asked, feeling like a fool with how many half-questions that he was asking. They felt invasive, but he was curious nonetheless. You knew that he would have questions like this, and you weren't opposed to answer them. They were only natural things to wonder.
"His dad is in the army, so he's away most of the time. We split up when he was 6 months old, but he's still involved with him and stuff. He's still away a lot, but he comes here whenever he's home to spend time with him," you told him, and that was not the story that Lando was expecting.
To be fair, he wasn't sure what he was expecting to hear when you told him, but it wasn't that. Now he had wanted to know why you had split up, especially after having a baby so young together. But, it was like you had read his mind.
"We were engaged but it just didn't work. I didn't like having him away all the time, he didn't want to move us both down here so that I had more support when it was away, we weren't the right ones for each other. And that's OK, because he gave me the best thing that's ever happened to me," you told him.
"Damn... that's pretty rough," was all he could say, not knowing what to comment on. A lot had happened to you in such a short amount of time: you had uprooted your life to move back home, you had had a baby, you had split up with your partner and the baby's father.
"It's worth it for him," you said without missing a beat. There was nothing else in the world that mattered to you more than Theo did, whether he made your life easy or not. Your little man was everything to you.
"He is cute as a button, seriously." Lando smiled, "Can I hold him?" he asked, his arms already reaching out to grab Theo.
"Yeah, sure." you nodded, handing him over. Lando held him just like he had seen you do with him balanced on his hip. He had never really seen himself with kids, but that all changed the second he took Theo into his arms.
He could only imagine what it would be like to have his own little person to love and take care of as they grew up, and now he wanted one more than ever. The feeling of holding him made Lando want to hold on and never let go.
"What are you doing home? Don't you live in Monaco or something?" you broke him out of his thoughts.
"Oh, yeah. I'm just home to visit my family. I was just taking a walk to relive some old memories," he told you, his focus more on Theo than it was on your questions.
"That's nice. I'm sure it's good to be back," you said as Theo started fussing. Small whimpers started to escape his lips, and your attention went straight to him. He was never normally a whiny toddler, so you were concerned straight away.
"Honey? Hey, what's wrong?" you asked, knowing he wouldn't reply but you could read him like a book. Lando handed him back to you, not knowing what to do with him. Before you could do anything to stop him crying, Theo threw up all of his breakfast as well as his lunch onto your shirt before letting out wails of discomfort.
"Oh baby, it's OK, it's OK, mamas got you," you tried to soothe, not bothered about the sick down your shirt. All you were concerned about was your little one. "Lando I'll have to go, it was lovely seeing you!" you called out as you started walking out of the park with Theo in your arms.
He could hear him crying and you trying to console him as you walked away, and he watched as you walked into one of the terrace houses across the street. It was a cute little house. He would probably say it was a little small for a big family, but it was the perfect size for just you and Theo.
He was slightly sad that he didn't get to say goodbye, or that he didn't get to try and make Theo feel better, but he understood your urgency. Your child was sick and he needed looking after immediately.
Lando let himself carry on his walk around the park before returning home. He told his parents that he had seen you, and the story about little Theo, and his mum was instantly recommending different remedies to try and help sore tummies that were toddler friendly.
For the rest of the day, all Lando could think about was you and Theo. There was just something magical about how you were with your son, and it was a scene that he could watch all day and never get bored of. It was clear that he had baby fever through and through, and there wasn't any sort of medicine prescribed to dull the symptoms.
Or maybe it was because he was shocked to see you, his childhood crush, single and with the most adorable toddler that he had ever seen in his entire life. Theo was also probably so precious to him because he was yours. He was something that was a part of you, so by default he had to adore him as well.
Lando didn't know why his feelings had come back to quickly and so strongly after 8 years, but it was likely something to do with how you handled Theo. The kindness and how nurturing you were with him made him feel a certain way.
A/N - I know I promised the whole thing, but this is just a little something to hold you all over while I try and trudge through the whole thing... it is getting pretty bulky and I feel like you guys deserve a little taste of the whole meal. And nerd!Lando is coming soon, I swear.
the kid gets sick or reader needs to run an errand and lando saves the day and watches them. queue cuteness and silly questions from the kid (very cliche but i eat it up everytime)
r and lando are having like a moment, maybe like they just confessed that they have something real and kid walks in like HEYYY !!!!
kid asks to facetime lando while he’s on a race weekend and is like “when will u come back :(“ and he debates getting on a flight immediately
lando comforts the kid after they cry over something (idk up to u!) and they only want lando because he looks like he gives the best hugs
lando and the kid fall asleep on the couch together and r walks in from the other room and just melts
Some of these may have made it in... and you'll be getting chapter one at 7pm BST! ❤❤
