Why Stranger Things is Not ok:

So basically the poor or abused kids (Billy, Max, Eddie, Chrissy, Patrick) get to die horrific deaths with no happy endings, oh and our gay characters get to like their love interests way more than they’re liked back (Robin), or they get to pine for someone unavailable (Will)? It is insane to me that a show based on ‘outcasts’ rising up and finding the good in darkness (ex: literally recalling happy memories to fight Vecna), doesn’t give most of its abused or oppressed characters happy endings. And I know what you’re thinking ‘it’s just a show, it’s not real, there’s no need to get upset.’ but the thing is, when the entire world doesn’t give out a whole lot of happy endings to people who’ve had deep struggle in their lives, we look to TV for an escape, for inspiration, for hope, in the form of characters like us prevailing and living to see a happier future. And when it’s just show after show telling us that poor, abused, queer, or oppressed people who’ve had to go through shit, or fight to survive their entire lives, don’t get happy endings, or don’t even get a place in a story, they no longer inspire. They just reinforce the unjust norms upheld in our lives. Shows like these no longer do the right thing, but instead put us all the more down. Not having a place in the story is all too reflective of how our society treats those who are oppressed, and it’s truly saddening to have such hope crushed over and over again. 

Severely disappointed in the Duffer Brothers, and so many more, who have the chance to shape and share entire worlds, all to make them just as restricting as our own.  

P.S: They had a chance after killing Billy to give a new primary character of similar circumstance, Eddie, a shot at a good life, but they proceeded to do the exact same thing. We should’ve known he was dead from the start.

What the actual Fuck

WHY WAS DUSTIN THE ONLY ONE UPSET ABOUT EDDIE’S DEATH?!? We don’t even get a REACTION from the others, and the next we see them its la-di-freakin-da lets pack boxes and make sandwiches?? They went through a whole ass experience together, not to mention Eddie was extremely friendly and likable (oh and just died to save all of them), and they’re all back to only caring abt their own romances and that other BS. Like his death and the whole town hating him wasn’t a painful enough way for him to go, but his own “friends” didn’t even care?? Isn’t the whole point of Stranger Things that no matter how dark things get, your friends got your back? Eddie had their backs and he DIDNT EVEN KNOW THEM WELL, and they don’t even care that he’s gone?? Reaaalllly makes me like the older group a whole lot less. Like how am I supposed to see Steve, Robin, Nancy as likable characters when they don’t care about Eddie’s death?

Anyways, I’m going to go and rewatch Our Flag Means Death and What We Do In the Shadows to heal from this classist, homophobic BS. Peace out girl scouts ✌️

Ok hear me out - why would they have Eddie stay behind 2 years - heard in Ep 1 - making him 20 aka the same age as Steve aka an age that isn’t highschool aka an age that would be appropriate to date Steve at) when they could’ve just made him a senior that the kids look up to?
