I think that a lot of the beyond good and evil 2 stuff I've seen IS cool but I think its missing some of the charm that the original game has. I think the appeal that Hillys has is that its not a dingey or run down, poverty stricken sector in some little corner of the universe, but rather it's just some kind of like. It feels casual in a way. Even if the town isn't huge it still feels alive and you can see the small changes mad through the game. It doesn't feel like its pushing something that a lot of other media does regarding a more like spacey setting like making it overly run down or there's like riots everywhere (even if I wished there was more conflict within the pedestrian district than there seems to be) or that it's overly polluted or just looking post apocalyptic in general.
Don't get me wrong, the trailer/teaser thing we get with Knox and everything is cool! And the graphics are great. But it doesn't feel like beyond good and evil to me if that make sense.it feels more like.. Borderlands/spacelords Esque. I understand that's because its more focused on the literal pirates that Jade's family is And their past cause it's a prequel. But it's missing some aspects that I can't quite put down.
I hope we also get to keep some of the goofy designs of the more Anthro characters like the carcharodon sapiens, or the more exaggerated features of character like peepers and double h. Even mei as strange as she looks.
I saw some concept art of one of the carcharodon sapiens for bg&e2 and I saw that they were more just normal shark-ish instead of the kind of goofy design they og have and it didn't feel fitting. There's a kind of charm lost when you've turned all of the Anthro character designs to just photorealistic animals. I don't know if I'm being nitpicky about that or not.. But it feels important to me.
It's just a lot of small things that make the game feel like it does and I hope that when the second game continues development it'll be able to emulate some of those feelings.
