How long do you think Caleb was "dead" for before he and MC reunited in Homecoming Wings?

Hey there! According to what I could find, the short answer is "several months". But here, we show our work lol. So the long answer is below.

Here's what I was able to piece together from in-game context clues. Caleb's "death" occurred in "Main Story: Under Deepspace: Under Twilight: Within Reach". When the incident report is shown at the beginning of "Main Story: Under Deepspace: Under Twilight: A Real Nightmare" (left), its number starts with 2048 and likely identifies the year the event occurred.

Ultimately, in "Main Story: Homecoming Wings: Vanishing Skyward: Gentle Gaze", the protagonist states that they'd been separated for "several months" (right). She then proceeds to fill him in on the events that occurred from "Main Story: Under Deepspace: Under Twilight: Within Reach" to "Main Story: Homecoming Wings: Vanishing Skyward: Above the Clouds".

Based on this scene, we can surmise that the remainder of Under Deepspace, the entirety of Long-Awaited Revelry and Prologue To Tomorrow, and the first chapter of Homecoming Wings all transpired over the course of several months.

Interesting Facts:

Later in "Main Story: Under Deepspace: Under Twilight: A Real Nightmare", the protagonist is at the Hunter's Association HQ and turns to look at news coverage of the explosion. As she does so, we briefly see a calendar on the desk adjacent to hers. That calendar is flipped to September, which I'd initially hoped would give me even more info to work with. Buuuut, after scrutinizing it further, I'm pretty sure this is just a developmental artifact. Here's why.

Though the leftmost side of the calendar never comes into view, we can deduce a lot from the blurry day column text. Since "Wednesday" is the longest day name, the longest text blob is most likely Wednesday. If true, that would mean September 30th landed on a Monday.

Based on the date configuration, this calendar doesn't depict September 2048 (left). It doesn't even depict September 2049 (right).

Buuuut it does align perfectly with September 2024 and this game was released in January of 2024.

Hi don't mind me adding onto an old-ish post ^^ Saw this and realized I can help provide some stuff to help answer this question!

Its a minimum of 3/3.5 months!!

Under Deepspace: Endless Night, stage 1 Tara mentions us having a mission together around a month prior- this is likely that starter mission we have once becoming hunters since we haven't seen us working together since, and also lines up with Xavier's disappearance after that mission

And then when you start Prologue to Tomorrow, it clearly states that it was 2 months since the events in the N109 Zone if we add up the 3 days of attempted resonating, going to the Odd Workshop that next day, the Protocore Auction the day after that, and then her leaving likely that next day- she likely spent 6-7 days there

So 1 month between start of the game and the start of Endless Night. 1 week with Sylus. 2 months between LAR and the branch stories Its unknown how much time between Endless Night and LAR, but my personal timeline ive been putting together estimates around 1 week.

Which gives a grand total of 3/3.5 months minimum between the start of the game and reunion!! The explosion itself likely takes place around 2 weeks into the game, and also I haven't finished taking notes on the Branch Stories or Homecoming wings to know if there's any additional time to account for yet -

I do also wanna mention one more thing in regards to time passage in the game since its a pretty big translation/localization error in the EN version and affects attempts to calculate time between things and I can't help but share my knowledge LOL

Ill throw it under the cut since this addon is getting so long already but tldr: the 6 month timeskip after the explosion mentioned by Zayne doesnt actually exist!

Main story: Under Deepspace: Eternal Aurora, stage 1 MC is reading the papers left to her by Josephine and calls Zayne for answers. During this call he mentions it has been 6 months since she (Josephine) had passed when asked about how much he knows in regards to the Aether core

This is leads to a lot of people assuming there was a 6 month timeskip between the explosion and the next stage where we see MC before the appointment where she gets the papers, and thus even longer between then and the reunion

This comment from Zayne is actually a translation/localization error and leads to the EN version having a timeskip that doesnt exist in the other languages! I had friends who play the other languages go through this phone call again and he actually never mentions Josephine or her death in them- its only brought up in English

What he actually says is more so something along the lines of "6 months isn't a long time." which is likely referring to the 6 months since he became MC's primary care physician (Under Deepspace: To Begin) and that these 6 months so far haven't been long enough to learn much about the Aether core

So unfortunately there was no 6 months of MC's grieving that we never got to see like a LOT of people think due to the phone call. Which is a shame cause that would make so much more sense than the likely few weeks max that we have instead

So the Oracle of Scams Stars event was just announced for a rerun, and heres my PSA to you all as a day 1 player: DO NOT SPIN THE WHEEL OF HELL you can check out this very informative thread over on twitter about how Oracle worked last year

but tldr: - This is not a banner, itll be in the Events tab - 100 dias a spin, with no free attempts at all this year - there is no pity system period. its just literal pure chance - get an accessory, itll turn into another dice slot - it can cost 17.6k dias to get enough of the currency dice to get ONE SINGULAR CARD - Its only cards for Raf, Xav, and Zayne. No Sylus or Caleb is included unless you have at minimum 15k dias to whale into this for the chance of just 1 card, i say its not worth it to spin at all

All the global players who experienced this the first time are pissed and this is the worst choice infold couldve made

im alive i promise!! havent made any progress on my caleb smut in a while cause i just got writers block and havent had the drive to brute through it 😩 but its nearly done!! the actual smuts SO CLOSE to being finished and then its just some aftercare and then filling in a few sparse areas soon.... by summer im hoping i just need someone to get my ass in gear when i have time

we have hit 5.9k words and the fucking is nearly done, im estimating itll be 7-8k by the end of it, especially once i go back and flesh out a couple sections where i was struggling some lmao

and after this i have 2 shorter angsty caleb fic ideas that ive been DYING to write hehe

i really need to reread calebs myth ngl, sometimes i feel like i somehow got a WILDLY different interpretation of some things than everyone else based on posts i see like what do you mean he loses his memory when his emotions get too strong cause of the chip? does the end not establish he constantly has a blackhole in his body preventing the chip from accessing his brain? i thought the amnesia part was MCs chip induced dream (hence myth name) i finished reading that first time and 100% have been convinced everything from waking up to amnesiac caleb to her waking up in the hospital about to get her chip dissolved was a dream, one she doesnt realize is a dream ofc cause she thinks caleb remembers it too

I've reread the myth and I am still set in my interpretation of things so enjoy my little amateur analysis of Lucid Dream w tons of screenshots below cause I spent way too much time on it xoxo (warning: its long) Caleb doesnt lose his memory with strong emotions, and him having amnesia was part of MCs chip-induced dream in attempt to come to terms with the reality that the Caleb from her past is indeed gone for good

Most importantly to start off with, he has a black hole inside of him at all times preventing the chip from accessing his brain. This is clearly stated at the very end of the myth. So there shouldnt be any way for him to lose his memories because of it- unless that black hole fails ofc and I think if thats ever the case it would be a BIG serious thing and not something that he would just recover from over time and regain his memories like seems to happen over the amusement park chapter the chip was attempting to do what it did to Kevi and rewrite the strong emotions that night, but it failed. He was even still himself after it 'succeeded' before passing out- remember with Kevi that the change was almost instant so in theory Caleb would be the same

i also wanna add that i believe calebs pain and subsequent passing out in that ch are due to the attack earlier not the removal of his memories. they were trying to destroy the chip for some reason and it was going haywire cause of it (maybe just his anger in general of us potentially getting caught in the crossfire getting too out of hand causing the rewrite program to try and start?) Plus im sure that fending off the rewrite takes a LOT of effort on his part

theres an argument to be made that its not a dream and just caleb potentially pretending to have amnesia, there are hints during the amusement park that that version of him knows something- outright mentioning the chip when you collapse is the biggest ofc But i feel like theres no reason for him to pretend, especially for as long as he did before MC collapses. Idk how much I believe this idea honestly I feel like itd still be more likely that he had actual amnesia, his memories started coming back, but he kept playing along cause shes having fun, than for him to pretend from the start

but i think its all a dream not only are things called a dream twice, but the world ending is also mentioned multiple times as well and i think thats her subconsciously knowing this ideal time with him wont last The world is the dream itself with the caleb she misses and has been in love with The fleet showing up is reality/her waking up She doesn't want to accept reality so she tries to run and keep the illusion going even for a moment longer

She knows the Caleb she grew up with is gone, that the one before her is a different person now Shes struggling to fully come to terms with this, its why she jumps at the chance to gaslight an amnesiac caleb in her dream to relive the past for even a short period of time

Another important detail that i think everyone misses is the fact that its fairly obvious when we drag the collapsed caleb back home we take him to his room, but when we 'wake up' after the vine dream we are in our own room After caleb collapses ontop of us after the chip attempts to wipe his memories, you can see that MCs eyes blink a little before it fades to black and the vine dream starts, so we obviously pass out there too I don't think she wouldve gotten up in the middle of the night and left his side on her own- i mean she reaches out for him as soon as shes awake and bolts out looking for him when hes not there. She still thinks shes in his bed with him But would an amnesiac caleb (dream or irl) take the time to move the unknown sleeping girl beside him into another room? That doesnt feel likely to me ngl. He mentions she was next to him when he woke up, but youd think he mention moving her too if that were the case Maybe if its Caleb pretending I could see that happen, but like I said prior idk if I believe that he'd pretend

And infold very much wouldn't make such a mistake when it comes to backgrounds especially in a Myth where every detail seems to be important- its an intention decision to have MC wake up in her own bed and not Calebs. I think from that moment on is her dreaming

And going back to an earlier screenshot once more real quick I personally think Caleb mentioning the chip at the very end of the amusement park right before MC passes out could be the dream blurring with reality as the fleet is closing in and shes waking up

That line is spoken by IRL caleb as he finds her passed out with the red mark of the chip on her arm potentially trying to activate and he rushes her to the base to get it dissolved where she finally wakes up in reality

The one thing im still not fully sure about is her potential memory loss as a result of the chip dissolving, while still remembering the dream. She very obviously doesn't remember how Caleb got the bite on his hand when she very much would have been awake in reality during that sequence which shows she did lose something (she even alludes to that herself) Could dreams not count as actual memories that would be affected? Did she perhaps struggle so hard against the chip in the dream that it was basically protected?? Maybe it really was just simply a partial memory loss and it just didnt reach her dreams???

And we can't forget the line "Dreams are meant to be dreams" near the end either! And the comparison of those 3 days with amnesia Caleb to the vine dream. Those days didn't happen in reality and they must die alongside the version of Caleb she used to know, no matter how painful it might be

in short- Lucid Dreams is about MC struggling to accept the reality that the Caleb she grew up with and loved is gone. That the person she now knows today is someone so different, with so many secrets that she struggles to see him as the same person She injects the chip in attempt to be closer to him- to be trusted to know more about him again and be by his side in a desperate attempt to cling at the best friend she knew like the back of her hand The fear of him losing his memories like Kevi- that he might lose ALL his memories from their lives together was so intense caused the chip to start to activate that night and she had the amusement park dream. Clinging to what little of the past she still can, convincing herself itll be fine they can still be together like before But you can't escape reality for long, and she has to accept the new Caleb in front of her. That dream and the Caleb of the past must stay in the past. Now she has to get to know him once more, and re-fall in love with the man shes been in denial of her feelings for for so long

I dont know how else to end off this silly analysis I did but thanks for coming to my ted talk! i personally dont subscribe to the whole "Caleb could lose his memory with intense emotions" hc but everyone has their own interpretations and its not like im not against it either! heck i could be very wrong in every aspect of my take

weeks later and hes still holding your hand and calling you honey even when alone together. Neither wanting to end this charade but also scared to find out what the other actually feels

testing each other's limits and resolve to see what they could get away with before this ""act"" ends (its a lot theyre both so very down bad for each other) lingering hands with every touch. the exploratory first proper kiss followed by a hungry second when everything snaps

and the slight angst potential?? "do you even love me caleb? or is it all just for this act?" followed by him doing anything 😏 to convince her that his feelings are true and he was just being a sly bastard using the fake relationship to his advantage (she was too)
