What documents do you need when applying for a New Zealand student visa?

When applying to study in New Zealand, the first thing you'd need once you receive an offer letter from a university is a student visa.  To make a visa application in New Zealand as an international student, you would need to give evidence to prove that you meet the criterion for the visa that you are applying for.

It is essential to take note of what documents you would need before you apply. For it may be possible that some of the documents you would need might have a limited duration of validity, so you would need to get your documents in order before you make an application.

First all, to qualify for a New Zealand student visa, you’d need to show the following documents.

1. A letter of acceptance- for a course at an education institute approved by the Ministry of Education or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

2. Financial evidence for your tuition fees- this can include a bank statement, valid documents of scholarship or bursary or a financial statement of a family member who will be paying your fees.

3. Proof of funds that confirms you have sufficient money to live in New Zealand- for the duration of minimum one year. The amount you need to show is approximately NZD$15,000 for the first year of study, or, NZD$1250 for each month if your study program has a duration less than 36 months.

4. A return ticket out of New Zealand or, evidence of funds in your account equal to that of an air-fare back home.

5. A character and heath certificate- New Zealand has very strict policies about safety and health policies related to international immigrants who enter to study in the country. To make sure you do not pose any difficulties while entering, you must provide a valid health certificate to prove that you are healthy and meet New Zealand’s health requirements and, the character certificate to prove that you are a person of a good character.
