D-Fens aka Harold Smith
D-Fens aka Harold Smith
William “D-Fens” Foster from Falling Down, also known as Harold Smith – White Collar Survivalist by RAFM Miniatures so as to get around any copywrite issues, I’m sure. He’s just a guy trying to get home for his kid’s birthday party. A lot of fun to paint. White takes a lot of layers with a gray basecoat. Also, a note on this mini’s scale, he is tall. Probably a whole head taller than other 28mm…

Soviet Tank Crew
It has been too long since my last post! Finally, I have finished something. This is Eureka Miniatures Modern Russian Tank Crew. I tried to match the minis on Eureka’s site as much as possible. I think they turned out well. These guys are loosely modelled on the movie The Beast, about a Soviet tank crew that gets separated and lost in Afghanistan. One little hiccup while painting these came when…

Chip the Wizard on His Trusty Steed
Chip the Wizard on His Trusty Steed
This is the Chipmunk Mage on Turtle Mount from Dark Sword Miniatures, Inc. He is part of their Critter Kingdoms range. This little guy was procured at the behest of my wife (like she had to make me but more miniatures) as a “mascot” for our family. At our old house we had a chipmunk that would sit on the back deck and eat acorns and whatnot while we ate our breakfast. We would say “good morning”…

Wasteland Bandits
It was a long process, but I finally finished up ten bandits for use in Zona Alfa, and other games, too, of course! I am used to batch-painting squads that are typically wearing the same or at least similar equipment. These guys, Scavengers from Mirliton and Sewer Scavengers from Copplestone, are all wearing different scraps and gear and even their clothes are quite different. My head was…

Stray Dogs and Giant Rats
I have finally finished a whole lot of zone hostiles for Zona Alfa. The rat swarms, spider swarms, and giant rats are all Reaper Bones minis. The dogs are actually Zombie Dogs from Zombicide. I got a good deal on twenty of them from Nobleknight.com. I think I paid about $1.00 per dog. At first, I didn’t really like the fact that the dogs were zombies or that some had collars or harnesses.…

Comparison of Eureka, Copplestone, Warlord, Mirliton, and Pig Iron Miniatures
Comparison of Eureka, Copplestone, Warlord, Mirliton, and Pig Iron Miniatures
Following a post on Trackside Picnic and comments by Pete of SP’s Project Blog, I thought I would post up some comparison pictures of a few miniature makers. I find myself searching for such comparisons when exploring new manufacturers and it can be difficult to find just the right pictures with the right miniatures in them. These comparison shots are invaluable, in my opinion, and so the…

Zone Hostiles
Here are a few miniatures I’ve just finished. I made these guys up mainly for Zona Alfa, but they can, of course, be used in other games. The rats and the bear-thing are Reaper Bones miniatures, the “Bloodsucker” is a GW Genestealer, and the snake-thing is something I sculpted with some leftover Miliput after a different project ages ago. As for the giant rats, they got the bare minimum effort as…

Pegasus Hobbies Sandbags
I recently purchased some Pegasus Hobbies pre-painted sandbags, and I must say I was very pleased. The detail in the molds and the painting standard is great straight out of the box. They fit perfectly for 28mm gaming. If you want to drop some money in sandbags instead of making your own, I highly recommend there’s guys. They sell them in straights, corners with some shorter straights, and an…
