random semi-hot take, I really don't like how massive age gaps, cheating on partners, teens being in sexual interactions are super normalized and romanticized in queer media. I'm sorry but if you don't want to read anything containing representation of the LGBTQ+ community if it dosent have a huge chunk of smut in it, you have absolutely no respect for the community at all and you just want to feed your weird fetish. To the cheating on partners part, I see a lot of stuff usually not real life situations and if I do it's a very rare sighting but more in specifically gay movies and stories where one guy has a girlfriend but since he has like a crush on the other guy he kinda just brushes her off yet keeps having a relationship with her it's just really weird and honestly cheating is still cheating no matter what. And the normalizing of queer teens being sexual is a big and I mean HUGE problem here. Again, this is just rooted in fetishism. I get it, teens are usually hormonal and stuff and it happens sometimes but if you sit there and write just huge parts of smut between teenagers it's just really weird

There used to be this person on tiktok who just gen made up a story about how he had a bf and they were scared cause the families and country all together were really homophobic and not open-minded (again, made this whole thing up) and then would just continuously post rant videos about how him and supposed boyfriend had sexual interactions and in detail. And that is just an example of what I mean. Making up a whole scenario and people just to use those to write a little smut fanfic for your own pleasure is fucking weird.

I've seen a lot of people say "oh but if it's written by a teen then it's way more like not weird, they're teens themselves." I see the reasoning that, I do. And it's way better to imagine a teen writing that then a full grown adult but also if that is everywhere for anyone to click, watch, read or whatever then thoes full grown adults just have a huge page of content to read about teens in smut media and therefore it's still very weird.

What I wanted to say by this rant post it's that queer media is, should be viewed and represented as more than just smut or whatever for people's pleasure. Queer love in itself is very beautiful and depending on the situation, the people involved are very very brave for showing love very proudly and openly. I can't see why you would rather a story full of smut rather then one who shows how beautiful the love is and how brave the people are and how everyone should be themselves and not be scared and be proud and not ashamed. How they shouldn't be discriminated against, how they should be treated as anyone else is, etc.
