Heard the sad news about you finishing if you survive and your decision to not allow to keep it going for certain factors. I just want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing RP for so long. I had a fantastic time and you and PBK were fantastic admins!! Thank you again <3
This is a super old message, but thank you for sending it. We have nothing but wonderful memories about this roleplay. We love still hearing about it by former members and fans.
PBK and I are still active in fan writing, but we don’t run closed groups anymore. We collab on indie verses which is less time consuming.
And in the end, of course, a true war story is never about war. It’s about sunlight. It’s about the special way that dawn spreads out on a river when you know you must cross the river and march into the mountains and do things you are afraid to do. It’s about love and memory. It’s about sorrow. It’s about sisters who never write back and people who never listen.
If You Survive was a First Wizarding War roleplay created by Sar in late August 2012. It was produced by Sar and PBK for a tenure of 40 weeks. If You Survive had a total of 200 prompts, 50 games, and 479 secrets. If You Survive was a hub to amazingly talented storytellers, completely devoted to each other. Together, the writers progressed as a unit and developed engaging stories with twists at every plot drop.
IYS: MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.
IYS: HOME AWAY FROM HOME.
HERE ENDETH THE LAST DAY.
What happens to all those who had plots and things going on with Caradoc? Do they pretend he went missing or do they pretend he is still there?
For the plot of the game, Caradoc isn't missing. He left on a mission. We may declare him missing later, but not right now. This will be mentioned in the next plot round.
The player had to leave due to a real life tragedy. He'll be deeply missed since we've been playing with him for months. We won't be reopening the role anytime soon. Instead we're going to swap out the character for Benjy Fenwick.
I'm not sure who to write about this: you or PBK, but I just learned I'm going to be taking not only summer classes but my father signed me up to intern at his hospital, too. So I figure my activity will be about the same as it is now after June 20th. >.< Which isn't very much, so I'm thinking I'm going to have to leave. D= But this has been an amazing roleplay and if I find I have time, I'll definitely come audition again.
We'll miss you, Nate, but we understand. Of course, you can re-join when real life slows down. Don't send in a new application, just send a message here to the main.
Would a bio change for Alecto be considered to make her Amycus's twin/same age?
We can't offer that change because it's an important part of the plot that she's supposed to be a student with Regulus and Barty, but she dropped out of Hogwarts.
Nicknames: Wormtail, Pete, Wormy. Most call him by last name.
Birthday: June 3
Corpreal Patronus Form: At this point in his life, he is unable to produce one. Previously, all he could seem to conjure was a fine mist. If he could produce, it would take the form of a rat, much like his animagus. The rat connotes adaptability to a variety of situations as well as a strong instinct for survival. Social animals by nature. They are also supremely resourceful and have this ability to go unnoticed, should they so wish.
Likes:
James Potter- James Potter is, quite literally, his savior. Peter makes no mistakes about the fact that Sirius holds a place above him in James’s eyes, but to Peter James is the person he has to thank for where he is today, for why he has a community of friends in the first place.
Sirius Black - More than anything, Peter wants Sirius to truly accept him. Constant teasing from his friend has made Peter slightly bitter. Perhaps he should be more bitter towards James as well. After all, James is no better than his best friend.
Remus Lupin -
Sometimes Peter thinks that Remus is the only reason that he is accepted among his friends.
Dislikes: The shortcomings he sees within himself- More than anything, he can see plainly and brilliantly where he has failed and where others have succeeded. He knows he is not stupid; he had the brains, determination, and the skill to teach himself to turn into a rat at will, but somehow in other places in his life he has managed to trip up. More often than not that little voice in his head -the voice that tells him he can’t -wins.
Hogwarts history? Peter was, without a doubt, a plainly average student. He scored OWLS in only Potions and Charms, and not without some difficulty. He figured himself doomed for a future as someone who would work in a shop; perhaps Zonkos would take him? He was, after all, fairly adept at pranks, even managing to pull a few on his own friends, the masters of it all. The only reason most people knew who he was was because of his association with the Marauders. It is entirely possible that, without them, he may have gone unnoticed.
Friends with who? Crushes? Girlfriends/boyfriends? Peter was friends with the Marauders and those the marauders associated themselves with. This made things a bit awkward when he wasn’t in classes with them sixth and seventh year. He eventually managed a friendship with a girl called Mary, a sweet thing that was in a similar situation to him. He managed to buck up the courage to ask her to Hogsmeade a couple of times -even managing a kiss -but neither were really into it. He did have a crush on Lily Evans -and a part of him still does -but he accepts that that would not happen in a million years.
Ted Tonks is on the run with Andromeda and their 5-year-old daughter. Andromeda was listed on Voldemort’s “Death To Blood Traitors” list and no where is currently secure for them. They must count on the security of their friends until they can find a permanent new home. The Tonks have been dealing with more marital issues than usual, but they still support Order members with their expert healing abilities after duels.

Arabella’s magic is just enough for her to survive in the wizarding world, but if she had been born as a witch, she would definitely have been able to cast a Patronus. The swan may look like a graceful, harmless bird, but its looks are deceiving. It can be a vicious, unrelenting beast if provoked; make Ara angry, and you will face the bitter consequences. Additionally, swans mate for life. There will never be anyone for Arabella besides Charlie.
Likes:
Tufty and Snowy – They are the half-cats, half-Kneazles that she received from the only two people who had shown her true kindness at Hogwarts. Her Muggle neighbours who believe she is a witch think that they are her familiars; they aren’t too far from the truth. Ara never goes anywhere without at least one of them close by. They act as her guides in the Wizarding World, and have rescued her once or twice when drunken wizards try to harm her after a night of recon.
Kickboxing – Arabella began studying this martial art a year after Charlie was murdered. She figured that she needed a way to defend herself, even if it were likely ineffective against Death Eaters armed with magic and a sense of superiority. She has gotten fairly good at it and can toss a man twice her size.
Muggle Music – When Ara and Charlie had moved to a mostly Muggle-populated neighbourhood, Ara couldn’t help but listen to the music they had playing. She is fond of the Beatles, especially.
Baking – It was Charlie’s aunt who taught her how to bake. She was a Muggle, through and through, and the delightful smell of pies and cookies had inexplicably cheered Arabella up. Before Ara had left for her last year at Hogwarts, Annie Figg had given her a notebook full of recipes. When the Figgs were newlyweds, Charlie would come home from a hard day’s work to find a wonderful pastry on the table, his wife glowing with pride. She still bakes, occasionally, and though the desserts she makes are delicious, they lack the love and joy they used to be made with.
Sarcasm – When Charlie died, it had worked as a defence mechanism for the grieving Arabella, but now it was like second nature to her. It helps keep her cheerful, in a strange way, being able to find something to snark about in nearly every situation.
Goblins – She and the goblins at Gringotts struck a curious kind of friendship when Ara had to start getting the money from Charles’ and her joint account. They both had distaste for certain types of wizards, who felt that those who could not wield a wand were automatically inferior. Though they are not her friends, she likes their wry sense of humour and enjoys the trips she has to make to the bank. -
Observing People – This has been her habit since her youth. That was what Hogwarts taught her: how people interacted with each other. She loves her duties as a spy for this very reason; she wants to figure out which Death Eaters were guilty of what she thought was the most heinous crime.
Dislikes:
Her parents – She can never hate them, but her feelings towards the family that had rejected her are apathetic at best. She no longer communicates with them, except for a greeting during Christmas every other year.
Firewhiskey – She knows that this was what had spurred those despicable Death Eaters to kill Charlie, one cold winter’s night. She had seen the report. It was very near a pub where he was brutally killed. His body was disfigured beyond belief, a large ‘M’ sliced upon his stomach. The only way they knew it was Charles Figg was by asking Ollivander to examine the snapped wand. He had nodded his head gravely at Arabella and the Ministry representative, handing her a handkerchief as her sobs tore through the room.
Voldemort (and, in turn, the Death Eaters) – Little explanation is necessary for Arabella’s hatred for Voldemort and his followers. They had treated her like she was worse than dirt when she was at Hogwarts, but killing the only person she had ever opened her heart to was like the match that lit a blazing flame.
Vulnerability – Arabella knows that her vulnerability as a Squib in the Wizarding World is huge, and this gives her a sense of shame sometimes. However, it also makes her successful missions all the more satisfying.
Hogwarts history?
It has been said that Squibs are better off studying in Muggle schools, so as not to feel the embarrassment and impotency of living in a magical world, without being able to participate in it. Regardless of that, her parents forced her to go to Hogwarts, and even if they hadn’t, Arabella would have chosen to go there too. It started on her first day at the castle. She heard the whispers of witches and wizards alike, pity and disgust and hatred. ‘What’s that Squib doing here?’ ‘She’s worse than those Mudbloods. Traitor to wizardkind.’ ‘Oh, poor thing. I don’t understand why her parents made her go through with this.’ The muttered insults and words of sympathy she heard that day would set the tone for the rest of her life at Hogwarts.
‘What have we here?’ the Sorting Hat had said. ‘Your magic is… let’s pay that no mind. Your brain, my dear, tells me you ought to be in…RAVENCLAW!’ The dark-haired little girl had walked to the table of blue and silver: on the faces of her new housemates, she saw disbelief and irritation. What did they do to deserve the Squib? That was what their faces told Arabella. Chin defiantly held up, she walked and sat in an empty spot. No one joined her; that night, she ate alone.
When she woke up the next day, a heavy clump of white fur was weighing on her feet. Along with that was a note. ‘Miss Arabella,’ it said, ‘His name is Snowy, and he needs a master. If you need help in caring for him, the password to my office is “Acid Pops”.’ It was later that she would learn that the only professor with a password to his office was Dumbledore. The headmaster had given her a half-Kneazle, the first creature aside from herself that she’d had to take care of. The feline licked at Ara’s hand with its rough tongue and became her first friend. For the duration of her stay at Hogwarts, it never left her side. It kept her from tripping on the Vanishing Step, protected her from some of the more violent bullies, and kept her company through the many lonely hours.
She was a sit-in student for most of her classes. Arabella could not perform magic, of course, and the only subjects she could be graded in were History of Magic, Arithmancy, Astronomy, and sometimes, Potions. As a result, she spent most of her time watching her schoolmates interact with each other. Often, she felt like she didn’t even exist in the same world, and that was fine with her. That is, before the talk of war began.
Some of the Slytherins grew rowdier and crueller as reports of Muggle deaths in the Daily Prophet increased. It was halfway through her fifth year at Hogwarts when she found herself cornered by some sixth-year Slytherins, Firewhiskey in their breaths and evil intent in their eyes. They had just drawn their wands when a Ravenclaw boy, a prefect, and his friends chased them off. His name was Charles Figg, and he quickly became her second friend.
The rest of it became history. Against all his friends’ wishes, Charlie began courting Arabella at the beginning of their sixth year at Hogwarts. When he’d found out that she had been kicked out of her family’s home and had no place to go, he offered a kind aunt’s place just near King’s Cross. He visited her there during the summer holidays, every week. They played Wizarding Chess and drank cold lemonade as the heat wore itself down. With the permission of his parents, he spent his sixth and seventh year Christmases at Hogwarts.
He had held her and soothed her as she sobbed when her parents had abandoned her. He had surprised her with a new half-Kneazle, Tufty, when he saw the self-loathing in her eyes. And when he had proposed to her on their last day at Hogwarts, Arabella had nothing to say but, ‘Yes.’
Friends with who? Crushes? Girlfriends/boyfriends?
Arabella’s jaded personality and snarky sense of humour make it difficult for her to make friends within the Order. Eight years is just too huge a gap to fill between her and the Marauders (and the others within that age group). Though she may get along with them fairly well, it’s obvious that without the Order, they would never have been acquainted at all.
Ted had been her housemate back at Hogwarts. She feels a distant fondness for him, and often hopes Andromeda and him will live long after the horrible war. Arabella wants them to have what she and Charlie were deprived of: a happily ever after.
The person she feels most similar to is Benjy Fenwick. Like her, he has also experienced the pain of loss at the hands of Death Eaters. She has watched him work on his potions for the Order, and recognizes in his silence as the bitter injustice of lives cut short too early.
Desired ship and why?
Unless the circumstances are supremely remarkable, I don’t think Arabella would ever have a ship, especially if we go by canon. As I have already established, my version of Ara is loyal to a fault, even if her husband did break her heart by dying on her. All of that being said, if she and someone else truly, madly, and deeply have chemistry with each other, then I won’t prevent it. [Seriously, though. Have you read the history? She would never abandon the memory of Charlie. Ever.]
I wish I could by you all a round of drinks. Even some of the people on hiatus passed this week.
We also welcome a new Remus Lupin - Karli - And an old friend, Corwin, as Frank Longbottom the BAMF. Welcome both of you :D Please message my your skype details IF you are happy to have them added to the OOC contact list.
Those of you who are still doing exams - good luck! I know it’s a rough time!
And a reminder - you only need a hiatus us you think you can’t interact at all in a week. Hiatus requests still come to me.
Love you guys. Welcome the newbies and give them hugs.
Dueling – Frank is always ready for a fight... as long as it’s a fake one and no one dies. Despite the war, he still enjoys a proper duel, and he will gladly take on anyone willing to face him. Indeed, he and Alice duel together from time to time, both to keep each other sharp and to relieve some tension.
Day time – The night is too dark anymore. It’s typically synonymous with recon missions or other Order business, so it’s lost its pleasant mystery. During the day, at least, he can get a slight break from the war. Though as an Auror and a member of the Order, sometimes there really is no distinction.
Small groups – While he’s suspicious of everyone when in a large crowd—a hazard of being in the Order for so long—his thoughts get away from him too much when he’s alone, so he prefers the company of his few close friends. Luckily he has Alice as a near-constant companion.
Hogwarts – It’s one of the only places that still feels safe and perhaps the only reason Frank feels they might be able to win the war. It also offers plenty of new recruits for the Order, though he hates having to recruit recent grads (it feels too much like he’s directly responsible for the inevitable deaths of dozens of children).
Order – His life is orderly, and he appreciates routine and structure. This has always been the case, but now that the war has thrown life into chaos, he finds structure more important than ever.
Dislikes:
Death Eaters – A given, but his repulsion for Voldemort’s followers has grown exponentially over time.
The Dark Arts – He may have grown fond of the Dark Arts (for the study and the thrill), but with the war going on he’s staunchly opposed to any magics considered evil. Then again, the war has blurred that line, with the good guys now resorting to torturing the bad guys with magic that isn’t objectively “bad.” Still, with all the gray areas, he appreciates being able to draw a hard line every now and then.
Betrayal – Frank is a Gryffindor, so he places loyalty and honor above all else. The few times a person has betrayed the Order account for the majority of the times he has come unglued.
Imperfection – He’s justified in hating betrayal, but he nearly equally hates ineptitude. Of course, genuine mistakes are simply that, and he does truly try not to let his temper get the best of him, but usually a mistake necessitates cleanup, and more often than not that falls to him.
Hogwarts History: Frank was always adventurous, a bit brash, and reckless—by all accounts a true and proper Gryffindor. Despite an affinity for the Forbidden Forest, he rarely got in trouble for his late-night excursions (as often for being sneaky as for being persuasive). He was generally friendly, though he had relatively few friends since he preferred close friendships to casual acquaintances.
