psa or whatever but it's 'romani' or 'rom', not 'roma', if you're trying to talk about all of us.
roma are a specific subgroup of romani (primarily from romania, the czech republic, and other countries in that general geographic region).
there's a lot more romani groups than that though (sinti, kaale, ashkali, to name just some major ones) with their own culture, language/dialect, and history and they're left out entirely when people insist on calling us specifically roma for whatever reason. i realize that it's not an actively malicious mistake for most people but it's still part of the overall erasure and whitewashing of romani history.
all roma are romani but not all romani are roma. would appreciate it if you could pass this on when you find people mislabeling us in that way in future. cheers.
