àŒș⧠Where your reading night became lethargic, pulling you into dream as everyone else are asleep. Dream too lucid to be just a sleeping mare, but too ridiculous to be normal. And where is the exit? Why do people you see everyday look and behave like fairytale characters? And why are they so weird?
àŒșâ§A/N: Requested by @cartoonykatbird. Oh man, it took longer than expected. But honestly, I'm kind of satisfied with how it turned out in the end. When I started I had NO IDEA what to write exactly, so I'll include everything you requested. Plus, the fairytales. Do I look like someone who knows fairytales?lmao. I'm not even English nativeđđ. So yeah, if anything is wrong here, just tell me. I just placed everything on the Alice in Wonderland theme (yes I know it's basic) but I thought it'll match the eerie part. And as I say âthemeâ I don't mean that it's 100% Alice in Wonderland.
Devildomâs fairytales are really different from the human world. For humans, they're shown to be fantasy worlds with happy endings. Some are not happy, but humans seek happiness from them. In Devildom, you cannot find one tale that's the same as ones you knew before. Mythical creatures, spirits, magic. Everything was much more dangerous. There were more of them, and each fairytale was actually true. Written for young demons, to know the truth of the world, but by showing it to them by story.
It was much more interesting than the human world, where the princess met her prince. And they live happily ever after.
Demon's ones were eerie⊠covered in mist and mysteries. Hitting with realization that these things exist in this world.
You sat here for hours, reaching for book spines. Reading words on them, ones you were able to read. From frost wolf to maniacal ghosts. Everything that was interesting. To this point, you would gladly read all myths and old stories from Devildom. You'll be happy to sacrifice this one night for that part of the library.
The âWonderlandâ was the title of one book. With a young main character who entered a rabbit's hole, and found herself in Dreamland. Only to wake up from the nightmare and sleep paralysis it caused. And it was all a dream, the book said. But for her, it was like reality she couldn't escape.
âThat's more creepy than Alice in WonderlandâŠâ you thought, putting down a thin book. Compared to the human world, Alice, this story was short. And remembering that everything here got some truth inside, chill went through your back. But that wonderland wasn't bad. The feeling was. The uneasiness of that whole book, connecting characters that never existed in a tale you knew before. It sounded almost high⊠but the story itself was perfect to not feel the cringe of the main character's power. It shows the powerlessness of being in land you don't know. And that was a really, really good lecture. One that made you sit even deeper in the leather armchair, hugging a pillow on your lap.
You wanted to finish it. The whole story they gave you inside of that one book. Even if you were sleepy. Even if your eyes were closing on their own. With fire flickering in the fireplace, waking you up a little, giving you a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for reading. With everyone in their rooms, asleep. In a house full of demons, with Lucifer's study behind the shelves, giving you that nice creep on your back. Reading eerie fantasy in a beautiful library, alone at night. Letting go of imagination.
Where the âAliceâ went up, from the hole. Woke up from the dream, with sweat sticking to her clothes. With panic roaming in her mind. Where the demonic variety of characters didn't let her go.
You read âthe endâ with yawning. Mind forcing your body to sleep, in a cozy place. If Lucifer knew you're sleeping in the library, he would be mad⊠nevermind⊠just a small napâŠ
You lose your grip, allowing you to sleep for a few minutes before going to your room. The book closed on your lap, your head moved to the side, leaning.
Just a few minutes⊠you say?
Creak⊠the door swung in front of you. The light, showing up in the darkness, swallowing the empty space you woke up to.
You're dreaming, you're sure of it. There's no place in Devildom that looks empty like that. With one light door, that tells you to come closer. So you walk towards them, feeling lightheaded.
When you touch the light, it's cold. The air is moist, but the doors are already closing behind you, pushing your back.
Click, the lock turned.
Your feet lose their ground, slowly sliding down. White dress covering your body.
Dress?
You could swear you're screaming as you're falling. But there's no sound. And doors are further away with second passing. Heart pounding in your head, throat tight.
You don't know how you feel.
Ćâź'⎠âŠĂâź â±€Éâłâ± âŠ
When you felt something, you were on the ground now, with a tunnel above you. One you fell through. Darkness separates you from what's on the other side.
Your body didn't feel anything. You felt lightheaded.
You looked down at the weird grass under your knees. Green with blue shade on it. A place with visible sky, but one that got no sunlight. No clouds, everything kept in dim darkness. Purple-blue sky, shining a bit with orange, without any light source around.
Your body moved on its own, standing up, walking around the trees like it knew where it's going. And the grass was warm to touch.
The sign in front of you had no text. But you knew what it said, even without reading it. There are two ways, but none is normal. And direction signs didn't show anything.
Ćâź'⎠âŠĂâź â±€Éâłâ± âŠ
When you cleared your thoughts, you said to yourself:
âIt's not real. I am dreaming.â
Your head got clear so suddenly. The foggy surroundings became perfect. The dark forest, much colder.
Lethargy became eerie. You had control over your body. Control of what's happening, knowing that it's just a dream.
The signs had no text on them. Complete gibberish that didn't tell you where to go at all.
Wonderland is welcoming you. But this time it's not real at all. Not a book, not a movie. Not a tale. Your dream, showing you a land. Just like in the book.
This way.
That way.
Not here.
Come here.
Everywhere.
Here.
The sign was a mess.
âUp here.â
Wood didn't say that.
âHeey, up hereâŠâ someone whispered with a soft tone. Amused giggles filled the silence.
Your heart started pumping blood quicker as you could hear the breathing around. The forest was too quiet. Too silent for anything to happen.
And the giggle was everywhere, as much as it didn't appear at all. Going back and forth, the wind didn't move when that thing said another word.
âLook up.â
With a loud gulp and shiver coming down your spine, you looked up, on the black tree. Silver leaves moving to the sides, like showing you where to look exactly. Metallic eyes meeting yours. Making your body weak, too aware of your surroundings.
White hair almost glowing in dark places. Small ears in them, fluffy tail swinging around the branch as the person sat down, grin stretching to reach his ears.
âWait- Solomon?â
âWhere will you go?â
What? That's definitely Solomon, but his form is⊠completely not him⊠and his behavior is creepyâŠ
âAnswer me please, (___)â he said your name while humming. Typical for SolomonâŠ
You looked down at once, reading the nonsense on the sign again. And the paths looked the same.
âLeft or right? Up or down?â He laughed, moving a bit, like he was about to jump down. âDon't be scared. Choose up.â
â...â
âYou're the one who needs to choose. And I'll just wait here for you to comeââ
He moved too calmly. His eyes are not blinking. The tail swinging smoothly. His clothes are almost the same as he wears everyday. But the cape, flowing in the air slowly. And he ended up tensing his body, like he's about to jump. His eyes never let go of you. Grin wider with each second.
Yes⊠that's Solomon you know⊠but more like Cheshire cat⊠Devildom vibed oneâŠ
With trembling in your body, you backed up, choosing the way you could go without thinking about it.
The giggle followed you in the forest, echoing even when there was no possibility of hearing him. Showing you exactly that this is not the world you should be. That's a dream⊠one that's too lucid for your liking.
âDo you think⊠Who are you?â
Your body froze instantly. The giggle of âSolomonâ suddenly disappeared, being replaced by a lazy voice.
âWon't you want to come here?â
Your eyes turned up, looking at the next tree. The branch, holding up a person.
Is that Belphie?
âIs there a sense of you being here? Closed with me?â He turned his head to the side, making his hair to show his whole face. Eyes without energy drizzling you with pink light.
The way he acts⊠he's like Caterpillar, but something here is wrongâŠ
âWill I be free, as long as I'll take you here?â He moved again, letting down one hand, yawning. âYou have a reason, right? Come with me?â
As much as you wanted⊠as much as your body told you âsave himâ, like he was in sort of trouble, you stepped back.
Even if he's Belphie, everything is wrong.
âAs the sleeping beauty lies in the silence, the evil queen laughs, don't you think so?â
Creeps went up your back, hearing Solomon's voice whispering next to your nape.
âWhat about rabbits? Do they have time when they serve the Gold Mountain King?â
Fluffy, purple tail moved on your naked calf.
Ćâź'⎠âŠâŠĂâźâŠ â±€Éâłâ± âŠ
RememberâŠ
Ignore the glow of their eyes as they look at you⊠find an exit⊠even the playfulness of Solomon⊠laziness of BelphegorâŠ
The rabbit⊠the Gold Mountain King? Would they beâ
Just how dreams work, as soon as you think about something, it wants to change.
Tail brushed your face before the world blinked with you inside of it. And you were falling again. Upwards. You fell down, but you felt like you're flying, landing straight on the table with a soft thud. White dress folding elegantly.
âI want her head on my shelf⊠it's so prettyâŠâ
â...s-shouldnât you leave her alone? If you want her⊠she can be aliveââ
âUgh⊠but what if she'll run away? She'll be more beautiful than me?â Man in black and red dress said, looking in the mirror.
Asmo?
âI'll love the beauty to be mine. Only belonging to meâŠâ hands moved all over your neck, stroking your skin slowly. Scratching a bit with his nails.
You moved to the side to see him. He smiled slowly and delicately. With lust overfilling his eyes.
âUhmâŠâ
The silent voice that talked to Asmodeus was Leviathan, who, dressed in a similar outfit, sat down with his tea cup.
âI don't think you could ever own her.â Something pulled your ankle, making you slide down on the table, still lying down on the white. âOr maybe you do want to be owned?â
A red glance at your face made your limbs go limp. Gloved hand pulling your ankle down, towards him. Black hat decorating his head with a red rose on the side.
Deep red gloves contrasting with your dress as he touched your side, smirk playing on pale cheek.
Lucifer is the Hatter? Orâ
âOwned but by me, you mean.â Someone else said, pulling you away by your wrist. Black hat with green rose showing up in front of your eyes. Lacking gold, showing that maybe he is the Hatter.
And who's the evil queen?
That's so complicatedâŠ
âDon't even joke like that, Satan.â
âI'll take her all. We're not the sameâ
âYou mean you can't take less than me? It's very easy to take more than nothing. I have more power.â
âNo one asked youââ
Your body was pulled up and down by them, arguing like always. You can really say that these two would be the same, no matter the universe.
Two mad hatters, with completely different personalities.
âShouldn't one take it all? All of her? I would love to take her all!â
What the- that was gibberish of someone who talks too fastâŠ
Next to Lucifer, was Mammon with ears on his head, putting too much on his plate. Reaching for more and more. Laughing and being noisy, reaching even for your hand.
The March Hare, who moves along the Hatters.
Not agreeing with the Evil Queen called out by the Caterpillar - sleeping beauty.
The Turtle with dark skin, placing hand on Lucifer's. Asking to let go, wanting peace. Looking at your scared face, unable to say anything. Simeon, who helped you stand up from the table, pushing away the hands pulling you.
The doormouse, eating everything around, looking at the trees, waiting for the caterpillar.
The Rabbit with the clock, walking behind him.
The king of kings, smiling.
âWelcome to the teaparty.â He said, looking straight at you, moving his hand as Barbatos placed a plate for you. With a cookie that said âplease eat meâ.
What's even happening here?
You sat here, looking at the weird cookie in front of you. Barbatos moving around the table in hurry, pouring tea to everyone. Cleaning what was spilled in the hatters' fight.
Asmodeus looking at you with desire for something.
Leviathan slowly eats, looking at you for a second.
Lucifer and Satan staring.
Mammon, leaning over to you more and more. Beelzebub eating.
Belphegor appeared next to him, sleeping.
Solomon, laughing, smirking at you.
And Diavolo, delicately smiling at you, inviting you to eat with them.
What's even happening? Everything was so sudden and unpredictable⊠they didn't say much. They didn't do much. But they're not demons you know.
Simeon silently ate too, with sorrowful eyes. Maybe that's not sorrow, but he's emotional?
It's all too weird. So you sat here, staring at the food. Feeling eyes on you with each move, as they were in their own small world.
âYou're not real.â You wanted to say, but that was feeling normal for you.
What if it's not a dream-
You stood up, without any thoughts inside of your head.
With you, everyone stood up, but not Diavolo, who stopped smiling, wondering why would you do that.
The fantasy world that was too weird to be nice. And too real to be considered a dream. A curseâŠ
With all eyes on you, you felt it. They're never real. They would never act like that. They're just existing in your headâŠ
Right!
They're in your head, appearing after reading some books!
âAre desserts not to your liking?â A stoic voice said next to you. âSit down, you have a lot of time left.â Butler said, catching your shoulder.
âI- I think I have to go?â
âYou don't like it here, little sheep?â
Your eyes darted to Lucifer, who smirked darkly at you.
âYou don't want to eat? Maybe you'll try this cookie?â Beel asked, giving you another one. Then pointing at the cake. âThis one is also delicious, right, Belphie?â
His twin just sat down, almost asleep. Yet he decided that he'll look at you without blinking. With his forehead on the table, he didn't move at all.
âIs my hospitality bad for you, (___)? You didn't touch any food or drinks.â Diavolo said with a noble tone. âWe meet with everyone here almost every week, and we're happy to have you with us. Don't you want to talk?â
That's not the way Diavolo would act with you. Diavolo is a cheerful, nice prince. This man⊠he is not that Diavolo. Just like the rest of them⊠they're not them.
Even if the atmosphere is peaceful⊠it's too creepy⊠you feel like a lunatic.
âWhere's the exit?â You asked straight.
They stopped moving once again.
And so, without asking them anymore, you started walking. Of course they won't tell you⊠they're not real.
Their eyes followed you when you walked over to the forest. Luminescent plants change colors, from light blue to purple, matching the shades of the sky. Bushes were visible, but never perfect. Small imperfections visible on the leaves. Your mind is powerful enough to create all of this. But not invincible to create smallest details you won't even look at. That makes you know that this is just a Dreamland.
As much as there was an entrance, there should be an exit. There's always a way out. Even if it's difficult.
You can't call for help. You just need to wake up. So you looked at your hands, starting pinching your skin. Will it even work? Sometimes it could⊠but it didn'tâŠ
âWhy are you making your beautiful skin hurt? Why don't you want to be my princess? Princess (___) of hearts!â Asmodeus appeared near you with a giant, friendly smile. âYou would live in luxury! You're just as beautiful as I am, that's why I would love to have you by my side.â
You have real Asmo to look at⊠you walked away, even when he screamed about beheading you.
Then there was Leviathan.
âDo you want to go? Don't leave me with them all⊠they're crazyâŠâ he said, looking at you with sad eyes.
That's not your Levi. Even if he looked depressed, you cannot pity himâŠ
âIf you wanted to go, why would you even come?â Belphegor appeared from the shadows. âYou're going to leave because that's what you craveâ.â
No matter if the twins are sharing Dormouse traits, they're still different. Belphie is a Caterpillar. Beel is a Glutton. Thinking about their life, but in different ways.
âI would love to be with you moreâŠâ Beelzebub then says, reaching out for you.
You swapped paths, walking on the dark one.
âLeave the Hatter but not me, will ya?â
Sorry Mammon, you're not realâŠ
âHehe⊠one step further and I will be angryâŠâ Lucifer's voice said when you stood in front of the rabbit hole.
âAnd what do you do, when you are angry?â You asked, before stepping inside, allowing yourself to fall. Looking at Barbatosâ figure standing before the hole, staring as your body fell down. His glare is as cold as amused he is.
Landing on a bush, you stood up from the fluff, looking around, seeing the continuing forest, with only one path.
âCan I even find a way out?â You sighed to yourself, making steps forward.
âWhy look for one? Isn't it nice here?â Satan stood in front of you with hat off his head. Fingers squeezing green roses.
The way they're just popping out of nowhereâŠ
You just walked past him, tripping on your way a few times. Something squirmed by your feet. Simeon never said anything. He waved sadly to you, trying to keep up his smile, letting you think highly of this place for a moment.
And the slither by your legs didn't stop at all.
Someone walked behind you, circling around just so you don't see. And who wouldn't be like that, if not Cheshire cat?
Giggling raised as you thought about it, and fluffy tail wrapped around your jaw, moving slightly.
His eyes flickered, and when he moved, a shining door appeared behind him.
âIs my dear apprentice really going to leave me-â
âYes I amâ.â
You walked past him before he could finish. Others walk up to the doors behind you.
And you could be happy that you're leaving this place⊠that was⊠weird⊠if not hell of weird.
The door opened for you themselves, letting you walk inside the light, where you started falling down. And the forms of people you know in real life crawled behind you, jumping down. Without their normal bodies. Just blank silhouettes. Getting to you too fast to your liking. When black hands reached, you couldn't move. You just let your body fall down, as paralysis catched you before action. Cold sweat appears again, the moment your back hits something.
As you opened your eyes again, you sprung up in the armchair you sat in before those weird happenings.
Your hand is held by a tan, a bigger one. One of the Prince, who kneeled on one knee in front of you, with concern painted over his face. Your heart is beating like crazy, wide eyes looking around.
âI was so worried! I couldn't wake you up!â He said, reaching down for a book you dropped.
â... what â why are you hereâŠ?â you asked, gasping slower.
âOh⊠right! It's probably weird to see me hereâŠâ
Please let it not be a dreamâŠ
âI came to visit in the morning but Lucifer said you're sleeping in the library. So I said I can wake you up. Since it's morning.â
It's morning? Already? But that dream was so quickâŠ
âDid you have a bad dream?â He asked, concerned, looking at the title of the book that fell from your lap. He smiled a little. âI think Lucifer will understand why you skipped breakfast.â
In his hand, a book with the title âWonderlandâ, gifted to Lucifer by Diavolo himself.
Interesting piece, that was ideal for a present just because it was cursed. Lethargic. Too weird to be true. Too real to be a dream. But that was just magic, and imagination.
âCome eat, Beelzebub said he left you some.â
àŒșâ§A/N: The one thing YOU NEED TO KNOW - If the story feels too quick, too rushed, it was supposed to mimic the eerie dream. I'm so sorry if that's not what you wanted at all. Instead of a cute story I came up with freaking sleep paralysis of a crazy fantasy world where everyone wants the reader without saying much. I swear I'm not high.
