The story of Passover, current events edition

Let us all gather round to hear the story of Passover, in which a despotic ruler ignored very clear and obvious warning signs nine times in a row until the problem finally became big enough that a literal plague wiped out a significant percentage of his population. Oh also he broke his word repeatedly (9 times in a row) and was racist and/or antisemitic.

Meanwhile, the heroes of the story avoided the disease by sheltering in their homes.
