Pre-stress and Free Vibration Optimization of Composite Ocean Current Turbine Blade

Vibration characteristics of an ocean current turbine blade have been analyzed using Finite Element Package Ansys. A vibration analysis determines the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a turbine blade. It can also serve as a starting point for another, more detailed, dynamic analysis, such as a transient dynamic analysis, a harmonic analysis, or a spectrum analysis. The mode shapes and natural frequencies are important parameters in the design of an ocean current turbine blade for dynamic loading conditions. Modal analysis can also be performed on a pre-stressed spinning turbine blade. It has been investigated that the blade would not fail in an ocean current of 2.3~2.5 m/s that can produce power production up to 151 KW. The blade is of Composite structure with carbon fibers and foam core. It is also facilitated with two webs of carbon fibers to add shear rigidity.

Eight designs of blade were analyzed involving the differences in shape, material properties and internal structures. Results from the vibration analysis showed that the proposed blade design have adequate frequency difference than the frequency of other components of turbine blade i.e. rotor, assembly to produce proposed power of 151 KW without any resonance failure.

Two-Terminal Low-temperature Poly-Si Thin Film Non-Volatile Memory

We have developed a low temperature growth methodology of silicon structures for applications in flash memory. In this article, we report on the memory behaviour of poly-Si films grown by this technique at 300 °C, investigated through electrical measurements on metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) and metal-insulator-metal (MIM) devices containing these films. Current-voltage (I-V) and Capacitance Voltage (C-V) behaviour of these devices exhibit hysteresis not seen in devices made of only a-Si and/or Si3N4. The devices also exhibit capacitance switching behaviour and non-volatility by the application of different pulse voltages for write, read and erase operations. All process temperatures from growth of films to fabrication of devices were ≤ 300 °C. If well harnessed, this novel growth method could be promising for memory applications in systems-on-glass, plastics and even in 3-D flash memory widely viewed as the only practical solution to some of the down-scaling challenges of memory devices.

Computer Simulation for Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Rotor Optimization

Wind turbine design is a complex process that includes multiple and conflicting criteria like maximizing energy production and minimizing the cost incurred. Often, such problems are solved using optimization techniques. A computer simulation is essential in analyzing the performance of a wind turbine rotor and determining suitable values of various design variables. The simulation will work with a design optimizer to optimize the design. In this paper, the problem of optimal rotor design is formulated and a computer simulation presented to analyze the performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine rotor of a given airfoil over a range of rotor tip speed ratios. The MATLAB simulation takes inputs of blade twist angle and blade solidity along the rotor radius as well as wind speed distribution; it provides output in the form of plots of coefficient of performance against tip speed ratio, variation of induction factors, angle of attack and coefficients of lift and drag with blade radial positions.

Improving the deformation warping European regulatory battery holder by using mold analysis and Taguchi method

The plastic injection molding technology advances, affecting the market for the high demands on product quality, and therefore, the control parameters of the product is very important, a lot of factors that will affect the quality of the product, and generate defects such as: warpage, encapsulation, suture line, surface flow marks and short shots and other issues. Analyze movement via computer-aided engineering software (Computer Aided Engineering, referred to as CAE), you can find out the optimal parameters before the actual opening mold, improve product defects exist, thus saving time tryout, trimming dies and reduce material waste. This study is to explore the battery holder of the EU warping, first through Moldex3D mold flow analysis to simulate the Taguchi method to identify controllable factors affecting its warp and warp to explore this correction and improvement of molding parameters to improve product quality.

Buckling Analysis of an Ocean Current Turbine Blade

Abstract- The design of composite structures such as an ocean current turbine blade is a challenging problem due to the importance for pushing the material utilization to the specific limit in order to obtain cost effective and light structures. As a consequence of the minimum material design versus more efficiency strategy, the structures are becoming thin-walled, concludes that buckling problems may be addressed, and in this research work the aim is to obtain buckling analysis of ocean current turbine blades. Buckling analysis of an ocean current turbine blade using FEM (finite element method) is presented here. Through this analysis, buckling shapes of the first four buckling modes of the blade under three different ocean water speeds are computed. Buckling analysis of the blade with the Pre stressed and free vibration mode is also considered in this research. It is concluded that the proposed models with specific material would not fail due to buckling effect.
