I had an idea at like midnight the other day and the entire next day doing this lol.
Some thoughts below the cut (nvm it's a lot of thoughts, oops) <3
Can I just say that after doing digital and pen-only drawing for SO LONG (like a couple years at this point) doing something properly in pencil is so nice. Don't get me wrong, I adore my pen, it's helped me so much to just enjoy the process of my art but my goodness the feeling of a pencil and the ability to rub out my mistakes is just amazing.
Sometimes I wonder why I chose art as my hobby (one of MANY) and then I remember how good the process feels and how rewarding it is to just draw, no cares, whatever I want.
Anyway I think I like the pencil drawing more than the digital version because it just kinda feels better? Idk how to explain it but either way I'm happy :)
I do have beef with Pinterest now though because WHY could I not find a single good reference for the lower head??? Like I was searching for SO LONG and I found a good one fro the head on the left, but the one on the right was all me sitting in a room staring at myself in the mirror and awkwardly taking photos of the side of my head while trying to figure out how one would cradle a head from such an odd angle :( sigh... the price of art I guess
Idk I feel like the lighting isn't as dramatic as I normally like but it fits well for the vibes I was going for. Like I wanted to just show some 'best friends' and more dramatic lighting would have just made it feel sinister and less like a simple loving look between partners. maybe I could've done more but oh well it's good enough
Anyways, ignore the background, I did not like it but it felt naked without it so... yeah
Is one from July and the other from August? Yes. Do I care? No enjoy whatever this is :)
For those who don't know/don't recognise, the one on the right is Chromia Scott who I have now decided has dragonfly wings. Why? idk I think it looks cool :)
The one on the left is just some practice for poses that I got way too invested in and ended up making a full illustration <3
ANYWAY... this is a bit random but I was listening to the song 'Overgrown garden' the other day and my brain immediately went Bannerfall, so naturally, I went and wrote down my ideas for it. (The full notes are below the cut but beware, it is a lot of words. Also I've only watches Scott's Bannerfall POV so it might be a bit inaccurate in regards to the others)
This is the very rough animatic/sketch that I have already done. I don't know if I'll end up finishing it but I want to put it out just in case! Maybe it will motivate me c:

ALSO the little bits with the mountain are just filler because I had no idea what to put there lol :>
Overgrown garden for a Bannerfall animatic (Scott, Nom, 4c, Katie). The first chorus and verse is for Katie: feeing a bit ignored and like Nom doesn't truly see her.
The second chorus and verse is for Scott: he's sacrificing parts of himself for Nom.
The third chorus and verse is for 4c: rhododendron's are a warning for Nom killing 4c.
Thorns growing tighter for Katie(?) (the thorns could represent her negativity towards Nom growing over time as they get older and further apart) (could also be for Scott to show him becoming more unhealthily attached to Nom and the thorns kinda trapping him there even though it's the ones he's creating). (I ended up going with Scott for this one, I think it fit him better than Katie)
Ankles dripping red for 4c when he was smashed on the beach (it's just Nom's legs visible with the morning star and blue 4c slime splattered around and on him).
Crown of marigolds for Scott(?) (marigolds apparently symbolise cruelty, grief and jealousy so it could be that Nom is understanding the hurt he caused even if unwillingly, and wants Scott to know that so that he doesn't have an idealised memory of Nom but remembers all parts of him) (could also be for Katie because marigolds are often associated with protection as well and Nom always wanted to protect Katie even when they were on opposing sides so the marigolds would show his desire to keep her safe in some way even as he was going to die, making sure she had something to ward off negativity in his absence). (This one ended up being Katie, I felt it fit better with the research I did on marigolds)
Pulling away bloody hands could be him standing on the cliff with the three of them and having blood represent the guilt he feels (heh Macbeth style) for what he has done and the pain he caused. The words he says would be honest and he would be referring to Katie for daisies (innocence and remembering their childhood together more positively) and bluebells for 4c (gratitude from 4c for being saved and from Nom for having a close friend to confide in). Nom would say I love you to all of them because that is what he did say and the doing anything would focus on the creaking and it would have the bark and amber around him growing more/tighter to emphasise that he took the deal to protect them. He dies and it pans up to the sun the pans back down later.
When you left me behind would show the three of them sitting by Nom's tree (there was supposed to grow a tree when he died but it didn't) and just sleeping peacefully together behind his grave. The grave would show a peaceful setting and the ground be lush and full of life everywhere contrary to the withering in the lyrics because it isn't an abandonment. The second to last I would do anything would be them hugging with Nom and being bittersweet/crying but smiling and the last line would be them hugging without Nom but looking content and happy together with the tree behind them to show that Nom is still with them in spirit if not in body.
Let me know what you think! I have no idea if anyone will actually read all this but if you did, Well Done! I took a bunch of the flower's meaning into account to decide on what to do for each one :) I believe my ask box is open if anyone has any questions (I might be wrong, I dunno how it works)
