The two police officers didn't think anything of the call out into the middle of a quiet spot in the countryside. Nor did they think they would be ambushed by heavily armed robbers who were after their uniforms.
Once subdued, the police officers were disarmed at gunpoint, handcuffed, and now they are held captive while the armed robbers' accomplices come to collect their trophies, and more importantly, the uniforms needed to carry out their robbery. Naturally, the police officers are held captive.
No one is ever going to question a couple of uniformed police officers, especially when they're armed, right? The robbers are going to have a great payday, with an added bonus for ransoms for the police officers.
