Gojo teasingly called Utahime weak yet would entrust her with important tasks. Quite contradictory, huh? In chapter 5 of the first JJK novel, Gojo says some interesting things to Yuuji that make me wonder what his true opinion of Utahime as a person & sorcerer was.
Gojo asks Yuuji what is the main reason why someone is unable to help others, & Yuuji sadly answers that it's being too weak, as he's been struggling to defeat a reappearing curse for days.
Gojo says that's one reason but strength isn't everything.
As Gojo contemplates the struggles Yuuji has been through these past few weeks (such as the Junpei incident), he then says that the main reason isn't being weak or being unable to reach out in time to someone. It's to forget having the ability to help others. Encouraged, Yuuji eventually defeats the curse.
When I first read this chapter, it surprised me that this was Gojo's opinion on weakness & strength, considering how he teases others. Even tho he was born with a golden spoon & became the strongest, Gojo has always had a good heart, being considerate of others & helping them in his own way, even as a cocky teen. (And why I believe Utahime's hate towards Gojo isn't serious).
It made me wonder if the reason why Gojo trusted Utahime so much is because despite being weak (being a support type), despite being a scarred woman in Jujutsu society, she was always willing to help others. Showed care & protectiveness for her students, the innocent. Didn't stand for injustice (wasn't even made aware of Kyoto's assassination attempt on Yuuji). Would even listen to Gojo, who annoyed her.
Gojo probably admired her heart, hence why he always showed protectiveness towards her, however subtle. Why he would, without question, trust her over the students on not being a traitor. Why he entrusted her with Sukuna's 20th finger as a trump card.
From the 3 people he took with him to the front lines in the final battle, Gojo trusted Gakuganji enough to lead Jujutsu society in place of the higher-ups, despite their rather antagonistic dynamic. He trusted Ijichi the most, who had a good work ethic, despite Gojo's antics towards him. Whereas with Utahime...
Gojo picked his allies well & Utahime was one of the few. However, he wasn't good at expressing this. His teasing yet trust in her likely confused Utahime over the years, hence her CT song lyrics (Kinku).
I wonder if these 2 finally talked things out during the timeskip; if he told Utahime something similar to what he said to Yuuji when he (likely) asked her to buff him against Sukuna.

idk if it means much because gojo called a lot of people with their first name, but to me it means quite a lot that utahime gets mad at him for not using honorifics, but still turns her head and pays attention when he calls her name again after she scolded him. people can see it as she has no choice or just being business with him, but it also means she's comfortable and knows he's a brat and annoying to her and she still chooses to be kind and remind him he should respect her (funny). I remember a tweet saying she wears her heart on her sleeve and expressive and loud and if she wants gojo to stop the teasing, she possibly can, especially if she really hated him. but look at them, it went on for more than 10 years.
Well, Utahime is one of the 3 adults Gojo calls by first name with no honorific (the others being Geto & Shoko). It's strange & interesting when u think about it... 👀
Yes, Uta seems to have the personality to be able to tell off Gojo if she really wanted him to stop the teasing. The fact it's been going on for more than 10 years means that maybe, she's not that bothered by it. She seems to like bantering with him, matching his energy.
She's the only one crazy enough to feel competitive towards him 😂; probably thinks she can beat him at something. "He can't be good at everything!" she probably tells herself. (Girl, it's been years, lol...). It's cute & funny tbh. If she truly hated him, she wouldn't indulge him.
Even Uta's own students find her reactions to Gojo strange in the 2nd JJK novel (Chapter 2)...
We know she loves baseball, so of course she wanted her students to put their all into it, plus, it's Gojo's students they were competing with. She was all fired up. But for her students to compare her passion for baseball with her reactions to Gojo...well...that's an interesting observation 👀
Gojo must enjoy the banter too. He can't help himself every time they're in the same vicinity. He's so good at everything that he doesn't have particular hobbies (as stated by Gege) but he's been teasing Uta consistently for more than 10 years...never seeming to get tired of it...
They both act like teenagers 🤭. Maybe they should get locked up somewhere to finally confront whatever's going on between them... 🫢
I also think it's interesting how Utahime always listens to Gojo & trusts him so much despite her annoyance towards him. She didn't doubt him when he brought up the traitor & let him talk for 3:41 minutes on their phone call 👀. She was not informed about the attempted assassination of Yuuji at the Goodwill Event; it's like Gakuganji knew she wouldn't agree to it, & her students didn't even think to tell her either. She must be that kind, and/or maybe she trusted Gojo's judgement in keeping Yuuji alive, which Gakuganji may have suspected.
Then we know she not only did the risky task of investigating the traitor at Gojo's request, but buffed him against Sukuna... on Christmas Eve... barefoot... He most likely asked her for help again & she agreed... I still want to know how this went down 😫. You don't do all this for someone you supposedly hate nor ask this much of someone you find weak...
At this point, one's inclined to believe there might even be some sort of tension between them... Afraid (and/or unable) to take another step closer, but can't stay away, so they stick to what they know... Not too close but not too far from the other...
Thoughts on GojoHime in the Phantom Parade side story
(An English fan translation of the full story here & another English translation of the GojoHime part here).
The story, "Satoru Gojo, The Night Before The Goodwill Event," is divided in 3 sections, where Gojo teases 3 of his closest friends, lol.
A little recap first.
So, it seems that weeks before the Goodwill Event, Gojo had been looking for ideas on what the students could do for fun. On the day before the event, he started off with Nanami, convincing him to go bowling. Finding certain aspects of it complicated (such as where it could take place), Gojo scratched it off & left, leaving an annoyed Nanami behind. (It's unclear if Gojo was simply watching or playing too, but he left when it was his turn to bowl).
That night, he found Utahime outside of the Tokyo Dome, having just finished watching a live baseball game. Her team lost & she was mad. After teasing her a bit, Uta asked him why he was there & Gojo said he knew she'd be in Tokyo, as both of them should be making preparations for the upcoming event. He added that unlike him, she was slacking off on the job by going to the dome. Ignoring him & surprised that Gojo was putting in the work, Uta told him to go continue his preparations then, but Gojo said she should come too. When she asked why, Gojo said if she didn't want him telling on her to the principals, they should go to a Batting Cage. Offering to pay for her as the cherry on top, he said exercise was good to let out frustrations & ran off. Confused, Uta chased after him (what in the shoujo rom-com is this)
She ended up hitting a bunch of home runs, leaving Gojo impressed 👀. After a couple rounds of batting on her own, she asked him what the batting had to do with the preparations. Gojo hesitated & told her it was a secret before running off again (teleporting?), leaving her confused. Gojo knew he'd find baseball the most fun even just by watching & decided to pick that as one of the activities for the students on the 2nd day of the exchange event.
That same night, he basically ordered a confused Ijichi to drive him to some stores to buy the equipment & uniforms for the baseball match & other potential activities. It was then revealed he was using the school funds, even for the bowling & Batting Cage (lol), & told Ijichi to add in the extra activities to the poll for the 2nd day of the event. As already established in the manga/anime, Gojo had rigged the poll & was happy that baseball won.
Ooh, boy... So, let's dissect this. How did Gojo find Utahime at the Tokyo Dome? Was it a coincidence, despite the amounts of people there? Did he sense or see her CE & followed it there? Or did he make an educated a lucky guess she would be there, as he knows she often goes to watch games when in Tokyo (since he pointed out that he knew she'd already be in town for the Goodwill Event)?
Gojo noticed she was upset about her fav team losing, so he suggested they go to a batting center so she could let off some steam, making it sound like it had to do with his preparations for the event (which, technically, it did 🤪). The thing is...Gojo didn't play with her. He stood to the side while she played.
And Uta just went along with it... She clearly doesn't mind being in his company, not to mention at night. She must've been pretty into it, & who knows what she was wearing; it's likely that she was in casual wear (off-duty & her miko outfit would've stood out too much at the dome). Gojo might've been in casual wear too. (Phantom Parade has all the characters in their default outfits despite the OG scenes showing otherwise in the manga/anime).
What was going thru Gojo's head while at the Batting Cage? He was clearly impressed by her skills, as she hit a bunch of home runs 👀. Before heading over to Ijichi, Gojo thought to himself that he knew he would enjoy baseball & that it was fun just to watch the batting...meaning it was fun for him to watch Utahime being all flushed & sweaty & in her cute outfit &—
He bought the baseball uniforms for the students & Utahime. How did he know their sizes? Maybe he asked Ijichi for the student files or something, like what measurements they have for their school uniforms. But Utahime? Gojo must've made an educated guess... His experience with women, maybe? 🤪 And that maybe he observes her a little too much...
Reminds me of some scenes in the Earl & Fairy anime/novel series in which Edgar would gift Lydia dresses that fit her to a T (when they weren't even dating or anything, lol) & she'd wonder how in the world he knew her exact measurements. Edgar was a womanizer so he was definitely well-versed in women's bodies, & was becoming very interested in her, so... 🤭 (If y'all want a dynamic similar to GojoHime, go read this series!! It's amazing!!)
Then at the baseball game with the students, Gojo put on his sunglasses (which he either wears on a whim or to pick up girls, as stated by Gege himself 👀) & his "seduction" outfit that he once wore to annoy Megumi in that one Jujusanpo. Meanwhile, Uta wore the baseball uniform provided by Gojo, matching her white bow with a white belt. Girl—
So, this proves the headcanon that Gojo had rigged the poll for Utahime. He knows she loves baseball & he canonically does too (as implied in one of the novels while talking to Ijichi & making references to the famous Japanese baseball player Ichiro Suzuki). They must bond over baseball when Gojo's not teasing 😩. Baseball date headcanons proven too 🤭.
Sure, Gojo added in other sports/activities to the poll, but the fact baseball won when Gojo had said it'd be the most fun...maybe he put more baseball slips in the box. In the manga/anime, the main takeaway is that Gojo chose baseball as the main activity 😏.
He picked something that all of them could enjoy, which was very sweet of him 🥹. I wonder if Uta ever connected the dots? Did she realize Gojo got the idea because of her? For her too? But maybe she was too irritated that she lost to Gojo at the game, lol, as she's very competitive. She was telling off her students here.
This makes me wonder if they made a bet of some sort. Imagine? We can have so much fun with this side story 😩...
BTW, what if Uta had been the one to introduce Gojo to the sport to begin with?! She'd get all nerdy & passionate about it. Gojo likes how expressive she gets & maybe that's why he enjoyed watching her play at the batting center? Not to mention the view— Must be one of the reasons he enjoys teasing her~
Anyway, I can't believe we got a story like this! So cute! We got fed good 🤭. Too bad we didn't get to see Nanami interacting with GojoHime (to potentially prove our HC's that he gets annoyed by Gojo's antics towards their senpai 🤭). Hope we get more crumbs like this in the future!
JJK should be renamed, "Wasted Potential: The Manga".
It really did turn out to be a story with no substance. Honestly, what an uninteresting epilogue for a manga as popular as it became. Still explained nothing (I knew it the moment I saw the announcement of what the epilogue would contain 😒). Gege keeps on trolling, knowing exactly what the fans want to see but not acknowledging anything. Well, his final author notes only confirm what I always felt; he didn't really care, he really was burnt out & just kept churning out chapters. No passion. The issues with the manga were so glaringly obvious early on to me but only became more noticeable after Shibuya (and 3 years ago was around the time Gege claims he burnt out).
Kinda creepy that Panda is just stuck in a storage unit of the still elusive Gojo Clan & comes to life like a possessed doll if touched. But Yuuta's grandkids?! YutaMaki canon, at least (uh, right?).
Don't care about Nobara's part (Gege once again wasting final panels on an irrelevant character—the mom). We got some more backstory for Sukuna & Uraume (or is it a limbo of sorts?) yet still leaves us curious & hanging. And while I don't mind Yuuji ending up with Ozawa, what a waste of panels too. Except for a cameo that explained nothing, we don't even know what happened to the other member of the main trio, Megumi (man, Gege really did him dirty overall, I feel bad for his fans 😬).
Also, can't believe Sukuna's twin was actually Yuuji's grandpa instead of Jin (Yuuji's dad). So that means Sukuna is Yuuji's great uncle. I preferred him being just the uncle tbh 😅...
[Edit] And once again... no acknowledgment of Gojo's fate. The only confirmation we get of his death (ugh) is Nobara saying she wants to "respect the dead" by visiting her mom, whom Gojo had found for her. Seriously, tho? This is the acknowledgment we get? No mourning, no funeral, nothing from those Gojo was actually close to like Yuuji, Yuta, Shoko, Utahime or Megumi? We're supposed to accept it just like that? If this is it, what a terrible handling of Gojo's character 😑. More of my thoughts on that here.
Wonder if Mappa will fix anything but I won't hold hopes for that. I'm only looking forward to the 200% Hollow Purple scene & a few other things.
Anyway, back to Delulu Land. Gojo is living happily as a swallow with Utahime now 😌.
I lost most hope that JJK would have a proper conclusion the moment the 5 chapters announcement was made. I could see that it was headed towards a rushed & bad ending (Bl3ach all over again)... I still held onto a bit of hope, but I no longer felt as delulu. The theories of everyone dying & reincarnating to reunite in a happier future were better than this. I'd prefer my own version of that to this. Everyone getting stuck in the Merger similar to the Infinite Tsukuyomi in Naruto, & Gojo waking up & figuring out how to break them all out, would've been better than this.
This ending is just pure bad. Too many plot holes & nonsense. Everything was made pointless. Yuta taking over Gojo's body? Nobara's Resonance on Sukuna's finger? Megumi didn't have any character development; he basically did nothing despite the latent strength & Buddhist lore of his CT & DE? No one got mourned (even Tsumiki being the only one with a grave). Most of the chapter is just pure filler.
Absolute disrespect on Gojo. He really is Gege's cash cow. No one acknowledged his sacrifice. Disgusting. So OOC. Why did Gege not show the reactions of Yuta, Yuuji, Megumi, Utahime & Shoko in particular?
The only interesting part was Sukuna's sudden afterlife scene. But Gege did another lore drop (who is that shrine maiden? Michizane's shrine maiden? Sukuna's mother? Utahime's ancestor?).
This Tweet sums up most issues with this ending. 😒
To add my own 2 cents, any potential Utahime had as a shrine maiden went down the drain. So much potential lore that went unexplored. We didn't even get a single flashback with her & Gojo. She was the ONLY one who didn't get one out of their Hollow Purple team. Why? Would it have come off as too romantic? Did Gege's editors not allow it?
I don't wanna make this any longer, but the ending is just so ludicrous that I can't take it seriously. Gonna keep living in GojoHime Delulu Land. The only things to look forward to now in this series are the animation of the 200% Hollow Purple & Black T-shirt Gojo fighting. 😤
Thoughts & Speculations On Utahime In The Shinjuku Showdown Arc
WARNING: MANGA SPOILERS & HIGH LEVELS OF COPIUM
There are theories going around about Gojo's potential revival & subsequent defeat of Sukuna. Several are interesting & seemingly possible. However, I've hardly seen any involving Utahime & her potential role in all this. While I shouldn't be hoping for anything in this manga 😩, I couldn't help but get some ideas.
With some of the theories out there, I wouldn't want Gojo to sacrifice part of his power in order to come back. But who knows at this rate...? Would Gege let him come back even more powerful? Or only temporarily before losing all, half, or some of his power? I don't want him to lose an eye or something like that... 😮💨
Once he returns, what will be the next step to defeat Sukuna? Gojo may get a new power-up or even has something else up his sleeve that he hasn't revealed yet.
This is why I wonder if Utahime could still have a role to play in this arc. She's the only character involved who hasn't gotten a flashback yet with, or in regards to, Gojo. She hasn't even spoken a word! Does this mean anything? Is Gege withholding something important? Will it come into play at all?
She's barely had any screen/panel time & was absent for 3 arcs spanning several chapters since Shibuya. Gege finally revealed her CT for the biggest fight of Gojo's life against the King of Curses. She helped Gojo achieve 200% Hollow Purple along with Gakuganji, while Ijichi hid them from Sukuna's view with a barrier.
They really come in a set, don't they? Every one of her appearances is related to Gojo. She is bound to him. So you see, we may next see her whenever Gojo is about to, or has already, returned.
Neither her, Gakuganji or Ijichi have reappeared since.
It's been 20+ chapters now & we know nothing of their status. Is this the last time we'll see them, especially Utahime, in action? Do they still have another role to play? They have not been shown to be back with the others at HQ, which implies they're still out on the battlefield.
What have they been doing all this time? Watching the fight unfold? Is it just taking them a while to head back to HQ? Or could it be that they're potentially doing something important?
Chapter 244 showcased a flashback scene with the other characters having a meeting before the fight regarding the possibilities of Gojo's defeat. Neither GojoHime, Gakuganji or Ijichi were seemingly present.
Unless the two people behind Shoko here could be either of them? The one in black could be Gojo & next to him is Utahime, or could it be Gakuganji?
If not, this could imply they were doing planning of their own, maybe in a separate room. That planning is the key.
Clearly, GojoHime (& maybe Gakuganji) must've practiced the Hollow Purple throughout the weeks-long timeskip since Gojo's unsealing. But is that all they did? Is there something else that they planned? The fact they're not back at HQ could imply this. It almost seems deliberate that there's no involvement of them with the others... unless Gege really doesn't care.
Gojo told Sukuna at the beginning of their fight that he did some "special training."
What could this special training be? It hasn't been brought up again. Did it involve Utahime & maybe Gakuganji? This further showcases that Gojo's role isn't over yet.
Now, there are theories that Shoko may heal Gojo with her RCT. If so, could Uta help by buffing her to make it quicker & more effective?
We know so little about Uta's CT. Gege stated singing is a big part of it (unless it's just the chanting?). Could it be used for healing (kinda like Rapunzel from Tangled, lol)? What about offensive abilities? How else would she be a Semi-Grade 1 sorcerer if she can't fight on her own? Is it possible, though? We know she has good reflexes based on her encounter with Haruta at the Goodwill Event. Maybe she's good at hand-to-hand combat & wielding weapons? Heck, can she weaponize her voice like a siren?
When Uta buffs someone, does her cursed energy cover them like a blanket? Does it feel a certain way? Is it visible to other sorcerers or does it become one with the buffed person's own CE so that it's undetectable?
If her CE is visible, wouldn't Sukuna (especially as powerful as he is) have sensed it enmeshed with Gojo's? Instead, he thought Gojo's initial HP was a lot stronger than usual due to a Binding Vow (which we know Gojo didn't make) in chapter 234.
Since Ijichi made a barrier that hid him & the others from view, Sukuna doesn't know about them. If he couldn't sense Uta's CE, that could also mean she might not have been buffing Gojo after the HP. How long is her full range anyway?
Speaking of Ijichi, Gojo told him he had a monumental task in chapter 222 before the timeskip.
As then shown in a flashback in 223, it seems it was just to put up the barrier to hide them, Uta & Gakuganji from Sukuna.
Does this mean that Gojo planned their team-up that early after he got unsealed? 🤔 The flashback here has Gojo in casual wear & the place looks similar to the inside of the Tokyo Tower. Could this mean they were headed to Shibuya Sky, the top of the tower, to practice or simply strategize, & maybe meet up with Uta & Gakuganji?
Still, why did Gojo place such importance to this task? Was it just to establish the trust he has for Ijichi despite his antics?
Was it to keep Utahime safe? Not just about the barrier?
So, I've been having these questions for a while now. Here's where my delulu really kicks in.
Absolute insanity mode. You've been WARNED.
There are theories discrediting the fact Sukuna doesn't know about Uta's CT, that it's NOT why he thinks Gojo made a Binding Vow to achieve 200% HP. I know I'm crazy, but I think him not knowing could come into play.
Other than potentially helping Shoko heal Gojo, could Utahime have a hand in bringing him back? Maybe she could even buff Gojo's own RCT, in the case it's still activated (since Gojo's head's still intact). If Gojo is meant to be truly enlightened upon his return, almost like a god, then wouldn't Uta being a shrine maiden mean something? Shrine maidens dance for the gods, communicate with them, summon them.
DELULU THEORY 1:
This scene in chapter 222 made me wonder if Ino told Gojo about him witnessing the summoning of a dead person (which we know is Toji) in Shibuya, as there's been no follow-up to it yet...
If it's about Toji, did Gojo get the idea that in the case of him "dying", then his soul could be summoned back into his body? And with no side effects as it's his own body, and/or that as long as it's done immediately upon "death"? Is this something that could have been researched?
Since Ino knows a form of necromancy, could he possibly have a role to play in this as well? With his help, could Uta along with Gakuganji do a similar ritual as the granny who summoned Toji in Shibuya?
If Uta sings or chants for the ritual, could Gojo hear her in the limbo & follow her voice or something? Could she guide him north towards enlightenment, make him remember (or realize) who he is & what he has to do, in the case he's temporarily forgotten? 🫢 (delulu, I know, I KNOW 😩)
There's a song called North Wing by Akina Nakamori, the artist who sang Kinku, which is the song that Uta's CT is based on. It was her 7th single released the year after Kinku (7?! A number associated with Gojo?!). It was then re-recorded years later on an album titled 'Utahime Double Decade' (Akina is nicknamed Utahime, meaning Diva in Japan). The lyrics talk about a woman who boards a plane to meet with her lover. Here's an excerpt:

Let's see. If we see it in Uta's POV, then she might've thought loving Gojo was not worth it (as loving someone like him wouldn't be easy), but something happened that changed her mind, maybe before/during the time-skip, or seeing his "death." She could be headed to meet him, meaning to help him? It says at midnight, so could Gojo be revived the following day on Christmas? It mentions yesterday was agonizing for him, meaning his "death" & the fact of whose body/vessel he's fighting?
What if we low-key see it in Gojo's POV? His love for his students (and Utahime?) will make him choose North to return to them. He'll leave his past behind, making peace with it, & depart all alone, as the others in the limbo are going South. He knows everyone must be sad over his "death" (the 'agonizing' part) but he's coming home.
There is also a sequel song to this called Dramatic Airport - North Wing Part II. The lyrics are about a (the same?) woman on her way to meet up with her man at the airport, reuniting with him at night. So, could we see it as Utahime heading towards Gojo to help him, to be there for him on his 2nd awakening?
(There's this amazing theory here, which talks about the possibility of Utahime helping Gojo reach true enlightenment like Buddha's wife did for him in Buddhist myths.)
DELULU THEORY 2:
If Gojo returns through some other means, then that gives us another possibility. He's the only one who knows the location of Sukuna's last finger. What if Gojo had told its location to Utahime & co. (maybe even Ino)? What if their absence in the flashbacks of everyone else making plans is because they were retrieving the finger? And what would they do with it, you ask?
Could it be they had planned & are currently making the preparations for a ritual like the one I mentioned, in which they'll summon Sukuna into another vessel by using the finger? Or simply give it to someone to swallow? And could that vessel possibly be Yuuji, as he's the only one who can really handle harboring Sukuna?
It's scary to think of what this could mean, though... 😥 I will not delve into that.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Anyway, I know I'm fully delulu & may be burning the kitchen, but I just wanted to get this out there. The theories and speculations are rampant these days so might as well add some more to the bunch.
I know for Utahime, a literal side character, to have a major role in the most important fight of Gojo's life, is too much to hope for. Gege also doesn't have a good streak with giving importance to his female characters (except Maki). Then again...no one expected Utahime, after a long absence, to finally reappear with Gojo the chapter after he got unsealed & having her CT finally revealed for him against Sukuna. Just what is Gege trying to say?
Whatever the outcome, I still have so many questions...
What was Utahime even doing during her long absence since Shibuya? As the main teacher of Kyoto, & all these crazy things happening to her students, not a single peep from her?! Was she training?! Put under protection because of her CT or cuz Gojo would have their heads if something happened to her? Buffing people secretly somehow?
How did she end up teaming up with Gojo? Did he ask for her help, like when he did to investigate the traitor? What did he say? Did he finally fess up & tell her what she means to him? Gakuganji & Ijichi got their flashbacks, Gojo showing them his true feelings/thoughts, so what could this mean for Utahime?! That he trusts her too? That he doesn't find her weak? Did he apologize for his constant teasing? Could he have said something more?
Did she offer to help him? Did he refuse & Uta insisted, giving a sort of speech that shut him up?

I love how in chapter 63, Gojo & Utahime have this coded conversation casually and naturally. Showing that they know and trust each other. This scene also shows, that they can actually talk normally to each other.
"I'll leave it to you, then."
And then exactly 160 chapters later, in chapter 223 they are a breathtaking power couple, teamworking, giving their all, while looking majestic. They are focused, balanced and connected.
"But Utahime leaves nothing out."
"Much like Utahime, Gojo leaves nothing out, to hit 200 percent."
