idol, fake love, and dna can’t compare to this legend🤧
the version of fake love we never got !
Ok, now: how many points do you need to make out with the Potion Master?
Asking for a friend.
In This Moment, It isn’t Over.
“You were supposed to be the one that would never leave me,” Caroline says abruptly, staring harshly at the painting in front of her in an attempt to hide the tears forming in her eyes.
Crying on the street of New Orleans is not how she wants to remember this day.
“Tyler and Stefan both left. They left or they died” she pauses “actually they somehow managed to do both and now here you are, doing the exact same thing”
It just isn’t fair. None of it is fair
“I didn’t even know if I wanted you and I was supposed to have forever to figure that out.”
She wipes away a tear that she can’t stop from falling
“I was supposed to be able to mourn my high school sweetheart and my husband and then have centuries to decide that I wanted to show up at your door. No matter what, you were the constant. You would never leave, never die. And now….”
She trails off, not knowing how to end her sentence, not knowing if there even is an end to the things she wants to say right now
Klaus is frozen in time.
How long has he waited for her to say these words?
To give him even an indication that there might be a time in some distant future where they could be together.
He watches her face as she fights back tears, her mouth pulling up a little at the corners and her forehead creasing like it always does when she cries.
How many times has he made her cry in her lifetime? He wonders idly, struck by the pulling feeling in his chest. This is the first time he has felt genuine guilt for making her cry. Everything else he had his reasons for. He had to protect himself and his family and now…
Now it is just his daughter. That is all he can think about. That is the only thing that matters.
“I’m sorry, love” is all Klaus can manage as he fights off tears of his own.
Caroline looks up at him, seeing the pained expression on his face, the way his arm is tensed, aching to reach out to her but not wanting to make things worse.
She feels a bitter laugh escape despite herself “you know that’s the first time you’ve actually apologized to me” she says “everything you’ve done and this is the thing that’s bad enough to finally garner an apology from the great Klaus Mikaelson”
Klaus can feel a smirk pulling at his lips “well as I have come to understand it, I was never really the villain- so why apologize?”
He is teasing her, trying to make light of the situation, trying to slip back into the easy banter that they have always enjoyed. He is practically begging her to take a shot at him so he can return the favor and this will all be more bearable.
Just another conversation
Not a goodbye.
How can he even begin to imagine how he might say goodbye to Caroline Forbes?
“I’m a mom,” she says instead, voice serious as she sees through exactly what he is trying to do. Refusing to let him off so easy. “I know how you feel. I would die a thousand times over to save my daughters. I know you have to do this and I-”
she pauses, taking a deep breath “I understand” she says the words slowly, reaching for his hand as she does so, squeezing his large hand in her own and nodding in acceptance, as if granting him permission to die.
“It’s ok” she smiles through the tears falling down her cheeks
Klaus wants to break every piece of concrete and marble in this square.
He wants to rip the canvas off the painter’s easel and draw his own work in the human’s blood.
He can feel the hollow’s power pulsing through him and he wants nothing more than to let it out.
To kill and maim and destroy.
He wants to destroy everything in the entire world until nothing but his family and Caroline remain and then he wants to dance with them on the ashes of everything he tore down.
Instead he takes a very deep breath, places his free hand on top of his and Caroline’s entwined ones and leans in closer to her,
Breathing her in,
Determined to take her scent- her essence with him into the grave.
“I have lived for a thousand years” he whispers, his forehead moving to connect with hers as the two once again engage in their never ending game of will-we/won’t-we.
“In that time I have loved and lost so many that it is impossible to count.” He pauses “I pretend that my years are counted in enemies and battles and victories, but there have been losses and there has been love. I have had so much love in my life when I really think about it, love that I surely did not deserve” he says, feeling grounded to this earth by her tight grip on his hand.
The warmth in her grasp gives him the courage to say what will be his final words to Caroline Forbes.
Their bodies somehow gravitate even closer towards each other
Neither of them is aware of the movement;
It’s like magnets being pulled together.
It is simply inevitable that they will eventually connect.
“I am so sorry that I could not keep my promise to you” he says, inhaling deeply once again, his next words practically breathed against her lips
“I cannot be your last love, but know this, Caroline, you are mine. And I am lucky that my last love has also been my greatest.”
He smirks against her lips “I look forward to watching you- very jealously from beyond, because I know that you will do incredible things” his husky, whispered tones break a little at the end of his sentence “and you will have so much, incredible love in your life”
There is more he wants to say.
He wants to tell her that no one will ever be good enough for her- himself included, but that she should try to find someone almost half worthy of everything she is.
He wants to tell her about every inch of every city that she hasn’t explored yet.
He wants to tell her that even if she will never feel it back he is so grateful to have known what it feels like to love this intensely.
He wants to tell her to never let this insufferable world dim her light, and a million other things, but all of his words are lost as the magnets complete their destiny and her lips meet his.
A thousand years of memories flash before his eyes and he knows that not one of them can compare to the feel of her lips.
No work of art has ever touched him as deeply as the feeling of her hands on his neck, pulling him closer.
No great play has ever told a story more compelling than the one her lips whisper wordlessly in their movement.
No groundbreaking ballet has ever come close to the dance that her lips create against his own.
No symphony has ever sounded as sweet as the deafening pounding of both of their heartbeats intertwined.
In this moment, they have forever.
In this moment he will never leave her.
In this moment she will never feel heartbreak again.
In this moment everything is perfect and she realizes with startling finality how much she has wanted him since the day she met him.
How much she still wants him.
In this moment as their lips meet she remembers how it feels to fit herself like a puzzle piece into another person.
In this moment, their final moment, Caroline realizes that she is in love with him.
In the next moment he tells her it is time for him to leave.
“I can’t watch,” she whispers and he nods. He understands. He tells her to close her eyes and when she opens them he is gone.
In this moment she cries.
In the next moment she cries.
In this moment, across town, two brothers who have loved and hated each other in equal measure for a thousand years break a white oak stake in half and plunge it into their chests.
In the next moment the two brothers turn grey, falling lifelessly to the ground.
In this moment a teenage girl and a one thousand year old teenage girl both cry out in despair.
In the next moment the one thousand year old teenage girl’s cellphone rings and while she has a million reasons not to answer, when she sees the name flash across the screen she knows it is a call she has to take “it’s over” she says immediately “they did it. They’re gone” tears are still spilling down her cheeks, but her voice sounds empty. Hollow.
“It’s never over,” the broken voice on the other end of the phone says
The girl can hear loud noises on the other end of the phone, wind whipping loudly and the unmistakable sound of a powerful engine “where are you?”
“I’m at the airport” she says simply “I asked Klaus for control of your family plane. I promised him I would see the world.” She pauses “I lied”
In this moment a blonde girl with red, puffy eyes hangs up the phone and steps onto an overly luxurious private jet, she picks up a map and points to a tiny island on the other side of the world. The pilot nods and she asks the stewardess to bring her a glass of champagne.
In the next moment she feels the bubbles dance across her tongue, carrying bittersweet memories with them as the plane starts to taxi, pulling slowly and gracefully into the air.
In this moment it isn’t over.
In the next moment their story is only beginning.
There’s always another way
Somewhere
Written in some forgotten language
In some city lost in lava
Likely lies buried the secret to having everything I want
All at once
#klarolineforever
