How do you choose who's on the cover?

Well the person on the cover usually has a longer interview (the last one was shorter because we never got to finish our interview). Which means the cover/featured girl has to be someone who I can ask enough questions to reach my word count (700-1000 words for a feature). I also have a list of all the girls and who they’ve been interviewed by, so when I pick my interviews each week, at first I tried to get girls I hadn’t interviewed before, but now I’ve interviewed everyone so I don’t need to worry about that. Now I look at girls who either haven’t been interviewed that much, or who have an interesting story to tell. For example, when Annette was featured, it was because I knew she had talked to Dom before the interviews/introductions, and I knew I could ask a lot of questions about that. When Evadne was featured, it was mainly because I knew she had long answers for everything, and I would be able to ask her motivational questions and stuff like that. Similarly with Calista, I knew she would have a lot of long answers, and I figured I could ask her about her disability.

This week, I was looking at people who haven’t been interviewed a whole lot, and I was going to choose Aricia, but then I thought to myself that I wanted to do an Illea Weekly about Percy’s final decision between Charlotte and Aricia, so I figured I could either do a normal issue this week and not interview Aricia (since I don’t like interviewing people twice in a row) or I could speed up that plot line and have Aricia and Charlotte on the cover (and Percy). So this week is kind of a special issue, so it’s not the same as usual.

For the most part, I usually try to pick girls for the cover who I know I can reach word count with, whether because they recently did something interesting that I can ask a LOT of questions about or I know they answer with super long responses. I’m more hesitant to feature girls who only ever give one word answers (like Kat).
