i'm an ap bio student who decided to rewrite some notes and draw some diagrams to study for the ap test

hey guys!

i just wanted to let you guys know that i'm not going to update this anymore. i'll leave it up for future reference, but i'll probably delete it eventually

you can still send in bio questions if you'd like, but

i no longer have photoshop/a tablet, so responses won't be illustrated

now that i've taken the test, my bio knowledge is no longer as fresh

aka pls don't expect too much. nevertheless, i'll do my best with any questions 

i hope that i was able to help, even if just a little bit. thank you all for following and supporting this tumblr!

for those who'd like some review on dna replication: this site explains it pretty well

keep in mind though that the ap curriculm only says this about dna replication 

5. DNA replication ensures continuity of hereditary information.

i. Replication is a semiconservative process; that is, one strand serves as the template for a new, complementary strand.

ii. Replication requires DNA polymerase plus many other essential cellular enzymes, occurs bidirectionally, and differs in the production of the leading and lagging strands.

and that 

The names of the steps and particular enzymes involved, beyond DNA polymerase, ligase, RNA polymerase, helicase and topoisomerase, are outside the scope of the course for the purposes of the AP Exam. 

aka you probably don't need to know it extremely in depth

ive studied really hard but i still feel like i dont know anything! i will probably be able to do ok on the multiple choice but free response is gonna be bad! any tips on last minute studying or free response? thanks so much and i love your blog! its definitely helped!

i'll just repeat what my beloved bio teacher told my class!

follow the instructions: if they ask for two, give two. not three, not one; two

get to the point: you don't need to couch your response in fancy language - just answer the question

be specific: don't try to throw all the possible responses out there and hope that one works. 

don't overthink - sometimes the answer really is that simple

As for studying, here are the main ideas listed by the ap bio 2013 curriculum

Big Idea 1: The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life

Big Idea 2: Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce, and to maintain dynamic homeostasis

Big Idea 3: Living systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes

Big Idea 4: Biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties
