Recently I was invited to take part in a collective effort to raise awareness for the hundreds of girls kidnapped by Boko Harem insurgents in Nigeria last month. We each were given the name of a girl who has been confirmed missing, and were issued the task of creating beautiful flowers to not only raise awareness, but also in the hopes of their safe return to their families.

I chose the Night Blooming Cereus flower, being one of the most beautiful flowers, coming from one of the most unlikely of plants, a form of cactus. This flower develops into a dragonfruit, going through a transformation that creates a new object.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families affected, but especially that of Sicker's. Hoping that she blooms from adversity, and transforms into something beautiful from this hardship.
