Dove or pigeon?

I’m sitting at a Starbucks, yes before you ask, latte in hand . I’m watching an old man with a yellowing beard who if I didn’t know anything about materialistic things would look like he belongs in the neighbourhood I’m sitting in. He’s wearing faded jeans and a worn beige jacket smoking a joint while he sits on a concrete slab. He’s sparked the joint multiple times, it keeps burning out. What catches my attention about him is not his worn out jeans but that he has a 5 dollar coffee in his hand and is wearing brown leather boat shoes which look really close to new. He’s observing people unaware I’m observing him. Maybe he’s waiting for someone, maybe he’s just waiting for he sun to go down, its hard to say. While the neighbourhood locals have asked me for money multiple times since I arrived here a short time ago, they have all breezed past him without thought— Maybe he has it figured out. As I think this to myself a few pigeons bobble up to him and he almost smiles. He watches them for a moment and then abruptly tosses his roach gets up and vanishes into the building behind me. 

And like that the story is over.
