Like Trains in the Night
Life is never perfect, Maka knows this. And yet she can't stop wondering if things could be better. Maybe if she had someone to share her life with. A single night on the train is all it takes for her to see that yes, it could. If she chose to believe it, maybe.
It’s Resbang time again this year! It was a pleasure to be paired with @xsolarite! Go check out their fic here!!! Also take a look at the two other artists works, they’re both so pretty!! @not-so-scandalous’s here, and @holydrakes’ here.
The app I keep recipes on stopped letting me edit recipes for some reason so I undownloaded it and redownloaded it at like 1am completely forgetting that most of that shit wasn’t synced.
Moral of the story don’t delete shit between the hours of 9pm and 6am 🙃
I can retake pics of all the recipes easy (minus one or two I edited profusely,,, like my pumpkin cheesecake, or granola ratio) but it’s the pics of the food that are just GONE. Most of them weren’t saved to my phone.
And thus starts my baking achievement hunter journey this summer as I scramble to redocument my favorite recipes.
And since I’m bored I’m gonna be posting about it.
First up is salted chocolate almond cookies! Because I was really feeling cookies and we were out of pecans.
I don’t make these as much because almonds are less versatile and I am but a sad Colledge student who usually doesn’t have access to my parents freezer, but I really should. They’re a bit chewier than my go-to and the sea salt just really makes it worthwhile.Would’ve probably been better if we had more chocolate chips, but oh well.
Makes me wonder tho about making it a chocolate base… 🤔🤔🤔
Up next is the iconic and beloved banana bread!!!!
The recipe says to wait 40 min to cool, but all the cool guys know that you gotta to wait like 5-10 min and then eat a slice while it’s still warm enough to melt the butter by itself >:)
I have a bad habit of overcooking it a bit lately, but i don’t mind a kinda crunchy top
I miiiiiight like pumpkin bread more than banana, but it takes more to make it work.
The recipe I’ve got calls for 15oz of pumpkin but makes enough batter for 1 and a half loafs. So I need to add an extra half to the recipe. The problem lies in the pumpkin. The two can sizes are 15oz and 2 times 15oz minus 1oz (29oz) for some reason??
There is no winning here.
Either I give in and just make muffins, make 2 sad flat loafs, or I freeze 5-9oz of pumpkin to do…. what with? Idk man… Maybe I should try sweet potatoes instead.
The crust on this bread tho actually gets pretty nice and caramelized if you cook it a lil longer which is great in contrast with the gooier center.
I’ve been fiddling around with bookbinding as a new hobby, which lead to me re-reading @marywhal ‘s taz fic taste test (they were delicious) so I thought I’d make their peanut butter cookies!
I’ve been looking for a pb cookie recipe for a while now so I gave it a try. Gotta say they are quite good!!!!!
I’d probably go with mini m&ms or crush them a bit or forgo them completely cus they’re a bit too chunky for good form. But maybe I was just scooping them too small. I also couldn’t help but do the fork imprint so that might not’ve helped.
On another note, I feel like it’s been years since I’ve put anything in the cookie jar. Only Christmas cookies tend to last the night and we’ve got tins for those. Having two members of the household away makes a huge difference.
I feel like a mouse in the countryside. Out here puttin’ cookies in a jar
Sometimes life calls for late night scones with your dad. Duration of prep and baking time perfectly matched up with an episode of mbmbam.
These are an Alton brown recipe, who I go to for all my biscuity needs. We ended up using half n half dried cherries and unsweetened cranberries.
All around very lovely and not as hard to roll out and cut as I was expecting.
Made buttermilk cornbread last night to go with chili, as is the quota.
And not five seconds after it comes out of the oven, my mother swoops in (in a deranged keto-induced hunger) and makes the most dogshit slice I have ever seen in my life. It’s over before I can even comprehend it.
Last Thursday was brownies! Was gonna do these Friday but my dad campaigned for them early so he could have a dnd snack.
We never have the necessary baking chocolate on hand so I default to cocoa powder with oil to offset the dryness. This time… I accidentally added too much oil so the batter just thwopped cleanly out of the saucepan in one singular glop. Satisfying, but a little disturbing. It always tends to come out nicely but this was too clean.
They’re best with pecans and sea salt, and served hot with a scoop of ice cream and homemade caramel sauce. Didn’t make the caramel sauce this time tho because I was not feeling that bougie
Whelp, ended up doing it anyways.
I forgot the power I hold at my fingertips to just make small batches of things.
Chocolate chip oatmeal pecan cookies “da long way” as per a friends suggestion.
The slightly undercooked gooey nature of bar cookies makes them last longer with a great texture day two. Scooped or bar, these are my go-to cookie recipe
+ bonus lil guys
Made some biscuits!
We had leftover buttermilk on hand from my birthday cake (black forest with the luxardo cherries, absolutely to die for) so I took the chance to try out Alton’s basic biscuit. Ended up kinda flat… that's what I get for skipping the gently knead it step… that and rolling it out too thin. But hey! Warm bread is warm bread. Butter and honey don't care all that much.
Back at home and I immediately retried cranberry loaf! The college ovens tend to run hot and I always forget that so my first attempt at this recipe was very… dry.
This time around it went off without a hitch! Except for when I asked my mom if it’s worth pulling out the food processor or just chopping the cranberries and she said use the emersion blender, and I… listened to her for some reason. So the berries were pulverized, and the thing was honestly more annoying to clean than anything else.
All in all though, this is a nice light less sugary bread on the crumbly side with pops of good tanginess. It was gone by the end of the night. Would’ve preferred larger cranberry chunks tho
Sticky toffee pudding cake for my brothers birthday! Not the prettiest but absolutely delicious.
Oddly enough this one was baked using the cake setting on our rice cooker. Worked quite well and came out super satisfyingly.
This recipe is what made me grudgingly accept that dates are good sometimes.
And on the topic of birthday cakes, here’s my black forest cake back from winter that is similarly ugly yet positively scrummy!
What’s that??? It’s food time again! This time featuring Matcha Tiramisu!!
I really don’t like espresso but the concept of tiramisu has always intrigued me so this was the perfect alternative.
It’s surprisingly flavorful for how little matcha is actually in there, and honestly incredibly easy to make! And it only got easier the second time through.
The first pic is from my first attempt in August where the matcha was a little more clumpy and I over soaked some of the fingers and had to make more dip. While the second is from last night where I thought to sift my matcha first and ended up under soaking my fingers.
That or it was the same I just couldn’t really take in the flavor bc I was scarfing it down at 1 in the morning whilst in the midst of an involved monster prom game.
Belated holiday drop! Finally remembered to take pics of the pumpkin and pecan pies. Plus some various Christmas cookies.
New years donuts!!
Fried cake donuts with a bit of nutmeg so good they don’t really need powdered sugar.
Admittedly I didn’t make these myself, I just hung around the kitchen snacking on each batch as my uncle made them. But hey, I finally remembered to take a pic before they got demolished by children this year.

Regular high schoolers moment because I can’t help myself
+ some middle schoolers
Just take these memes I’m on a kick
Here’s the main gals in some of the outfits I’ve scrapped together for church
It uh, sure has been a year since I posted that wip huh?
But hey, fun fact!
Their outfits are entirely made up of my own wardrobe.
More of them!!!
Saw a girl at church with the bottom pics hairstyle dyed red with the roots showing so of course I had to do a quick sketch of Em
Misc doodles from classes last year
Been catching up with one piece lately!!
Quick doodles at the quizzo a while back
Wanted to draw something for Halloween… but oh well, here’s a little set of doodles from the back of my sketchbook I might come back to next year.
I told myself I’d make these two have an uneventful non traumatic background!
—oh wait- oh no- oops- ah geez- I’ve gone and dropped all my— oooooooh ouch.
Um.
Yeah.
Well.
I can’t help but just put Dominic through the shredder <3
AND it fits perfectly in with his adult trauma! So I’m justified!!! It just… re-colors it.
The lad!!!!
I gave the boy a 200 year old mentally connected doggg
His name is Barnaby!
Yippeeeeeee
Worked a bit on these twos wolf forms and their coloration/build a bit, although I wanna do a better job later.
Additionally there’s a few old comic pages linked to the same arc
