One the voices quieted down again, Jake shifted in his beanbag to get more comfortable. He rested two arms behind his head and let out a soft sigh. If he knew anything about his sister, it would be that one, she could never resist snuggling with him while he was taking his nap, and two- she would try to worm her way out of punishment tickles if she was scared
The fact that she was hiding from him right now made him believe that she was scared out of her mind to face him. But…maybe a sense of normality would be enough to lure her out so they could talk about her little lying habit, along with what had happened a few moments prior.
He closes his eyes, evening out his breathing and stretching himself out
It didn’t take very long to hear some shuffling from the other side of the cave. It was followed by the softest noise of paw pads walking across the stone cave floor, then a child’s paw on Jake’s stomach. He had to fight back a smirk, or any reaction at all, and pretended to stay asleep; even after he was lightly shaken side to side. Once the shaking stopped, he could feel the hand wiggle a little (he could picture her tail going godspeed, which usually caused her whole body to wiggle) and heard a soft but happy gasp leave the little Mendel’s mouth. He couldn’t help but chuckle at this, turning his head to look at her. “God, you’re too cute without even trying,” he says, picking his sister up and setting her on his torso. He scritches her back a little to try and ease her worries, but there was still a sense of fear and anticipation in her eyes.
“…hi,” she squeaks, her ears flat against her head. Jake looked away from her sad little face, having to remind himself why he wanted to do this in the first place. “…are you still mad at me?”
