Has anyone seen the Cats regents park production. If so, how is it? I need a new obsession and I'm willing to give Cats a try.

(Another rant because I honestly didn't get it all out and I've been seeing some bs)

Again the hate for the original Cats is not necessary. It's an acquired taste and the same can be said for CTJB.

But I also don't see the problem with people saying CTJB made it make more sense to them. Most of the people saying this are CTJB's target audience (queer people or people from ballroom who have most likely never seen the original). And even if they have, they still didn't get it because all they saw was “a bunch of humans dressed as cats competing for a superior cat to go to cat heaven”. Perhaps there is a broader meaning to the plot it's supposed to have that people (such as myself Ngl) don't get. With that, it's not crazy to say they understand it more when told from a queer's-eye view because they can relate to it more so they understand it more.

And personally, I don't get the people who hate on CTJB because it's nothing like the original, because I could have sworn that was the point. It's a revival, so it's not crazy that the characters are different, the numbers are different, and even some of the story is different. I'm sick of seeing “Why aren't they cats?” The whole point is that they're not cats, but black and brown queer people competing at a ball. In my opinion, making them cats would make the entire thing so unserious which defeats the purpose of what this production is trying to do when it comes to the portrayal of not only the characters but the people they represent.

However, I could understand being an original Cats fan and not liking it because most of the things they liked from the original have been erased. You may also not understand the depth of what CTJB truly is, or you may understand it but still not like it, and that's okay. It's not your cup of tea, just like the original isn't some people's cup of tea.

There are many valid reasons to dislike and like one but there are no valid reasons to HATE anything. Being close-minded, homophobic, transphobic, and even racist isn't a valid reason to hate on CTJB. And honestly, there is no good reason to hate on Cats besides the fact that you don't like it. And disliking something doesn't warrant harassing the people who like it.

Please get a fucking life if you are doing so.

Although I don't necessarily like the original Cats (I'm talking about the musical, not that horrible movie), I have to wonder if the people hating on Cats to hype up CTJB have ever even watched the original. Now I understand if you get “the plot” more because you have the understanding of ballroom, so putting it in that lens makes so much more sense. However, if you've only seen that God-forsaken movie or you're judging from the sole reason of the cat costumes (which is kind of fair to me but not a good enough justification to me when it comes to hate), then I can't really take your hate seriously.

I'm sure there are many reasons why people like one over the other, but I'd rather everyone stfu and enjoy their preferred production. All this discourse is kind of annoying.

I hope this production of Cats get another life somehow either by a tour, or a cast album or proshot something, anything I am honestly glad that tickets are selling more and that people are really wanting to support the show in the coming weeks. I hope that last show pops off hard

I am actually sad to hear the show is seeing a dip in ticket sales. I was honestly hoping it would see a longer life on Broadway, at least a little longer.

I had a chance to see the show but had to back out. Knowing this and if the show closes on that January date is gonna suck.

Nothing is concrete and it’s not like they’ve announced the show is going to close, but man. If tickets continue falling, idk what else to expect.

I will be even more sad if it closes with no cast recording. I get they are expensive, but man. I would chip in to get that to happen.

I've come across this video, and have also noticed that it seems like Cats: The Jellicle Ball looked at the original Cats and made sure to erase anything that gave life to any straight ships or romantic relationships 😭 (I also loved the video in its entirety. Definitely worth watching)

Like they made it canon that Bombalurina and Tugger are exes and then made Mistoffelees and Tugger kiss, making them canon to literally nail the coffin that holds the dead body of the Tugger and Bombalurina ship.

Demeter and Munkustrap don't interact in any romantic sense, and if anything, they gave that role to Bombalurina. (The lack of appreciation and mention of Demelurina in this production is a crime) Not only was it evident in the off-Broadway production, but also in the current Broadway run (they have amped it up so much, and I love it), I can't tell you how many times Bombalurina has had her arm around Demeter's waist and pulled her away from anyone who even looked like they were trying to flirt. And not to mention, how she literally shielded her with her entire body when danger came (at this point, they've done everything but kiss)

Munkustrap and Jennyanydots… I honestly don't even need to explain. The whole Gumpie Cat song was filled with Jenny x Munkistrap material. Even when Munkustrap changed his voice to announce the category Realness, and they shared that look (they're literally married)

Even now on Broadway, Victoria and Etcetera (Kya Azeen specifically) have so many romantic moments together, it's not even funny. Shi, they've also done everything but kiss at this point.

Like, there isn't a straight ship I could name from this production, and I honestly love it. This production also gives so much material on ships I've made in my head and for someone who loves to make everything gay, thank you, Cats: The Jellicle Ball 😌
