ageism
Ageism Report 02/06/2014 Age discrimination is not focused on just teens but all age groups. It is focused on all everyone on earth. Age discrimination is when people make stereotypes about other age groups because some people from one age group show signs of some oddity occurring. Ageism is an important topic because people get put down only because they are younger or older than someone. Ageism is expressed in more depth through these body paragraphs’. The youth get discriminated by their age. "Sorry no eggs will be sold to young people during the Halloween season"(Psychology magpie) .One will say that this is discrimination against age because kids like to egg houses on Halloween, so adults won't sell eggs to the youth. What if parents made their kids go get some eggs from the store? And now they aren’t able to. "Teenagers are considered shifty and untrustworthy"(Teen ink). Some will say that this is discrimination because teens can turn on their friends or just use them. Even so there are many teens in the world that are trustworthy, unlike stereotypes placed upon them. The youth aren't the only ones that get discriminated, but middle-aged people as well. Discrimination is not only enacted upon teenagers, but on middle aged people as well. When people think of ageism they mainly focus on elderly and teenagers but people of all ages are affected. In a blog posted on the internet a woman had to this to provide about herself "The head hunter actually told me that the client said I was too old for the job"(Liz Ryan, the ugly truth about age discrimination). People discriminate at work and all over the world for reasons that are pompous and/or biased. In a post online this person states “1/3 of British people in their 50’s and up said they have also been discriminated upon”(one in three older adults). People shouldn’t be discriminated against only based on how long they have been on this earth. Still being discriminated against doesn’t just happen to the middle aged, but to the elderly as well. Many elders are affected by ageism; in fact they are probably made fun of more due to age. Ageism affects everyone in different ways, as stated by this person "Ageism is a form of discrimination and prejudice, particularly experienced by seniors for example late night comedians and talk show hosts joke about seniors and memory"(How does ageism affect discrimination). Most elders are made fun of because they don’t remember something because they forget one or two things so comedians and talk show hosts make fun of them so that other people follow their lead to do the same. This quote from a blog about elderly discrimination exemplifies that "The "old geezer" stereotype is an unjust and prejudicial generalization that assumes all older adults naturally become weak, sick and forgetful. This is what constitutes "ageism"(Ageism: discrimination against the elderly).Elders came before everyone and should be able to keep their voice in all things globally. All of these forms of age discrimination are affecting today’s society because many are getting judged on age. Age shouldn’t be how we describe someone we don’t know. Age discrimination is an atrocity that occurs every day for no reason at all. People automatically judge someone by their age just because it makes them feel better. But people who don’t deserve to be ridiculed in this way will always be because of stereotypes that decide this to themselves. People shouldn’t be harmed or upset for no reason. Don’t cause hardships to someone you don’t know by stereotyping, try figuring out how they act and feel and make an assumption off of that. Don’t cause Ageism, and help bring it to an end now.
