Turkish yatagan with bone hilt, decorated with gold, silver, brass, and red coral, 18th-19th century
from Sofe Design Auctions
Yakut fashion, Sakha Republic (Yakutia)
1. Yakut outfit by Augustina Filippova, photo by A. Cheban
Here is me in my complete-ish garb. (I want to sew a new first layer cyrtel in green linen). It’s the outfit of a 7th century Anglo-Saxon noblewoman.
The trim is tablet woven linen, and linen embroidery based on illumination in the lindesfarne gospels. The belt is tablet woven wool. I hand wove/sewed everything except the shoes which are slippers a friend bought in Morocco.
The necklace is a replica of St. Cuthberts cross, and the other jewelry is also inspired by various archeological finds and was bought over the years from various Etsy shops.

Seven, Brienne thought again, despairing. She had no chance against seven, she knew. No chance, and no choice.
She stepped out into the rain, Oathkeeper in hand.
A Rapier, modern take but based on early XVIIth examples. A present for a dear friend.
Spring steel blade, and steel hilt and pommel, heat-blued with sterling silver highlights. The grip is leather with silver wire, to change a bit from the usual full-wire-wrap grips. Silver Turk’s head knots.
OAL 1295 mm, with a 1130 mm blade (of which 1065 sharp). POB at 13 cm from the cross. 1412 g.
A Practice Rapier Commission work. Spring steel blade ; steel hilt with etched/engraved roses, one black and the other white. The grip was provided by the customer. OAL 114 cm, with a 955 mm blade, 16.5 mm wide at the cup.Point of balance is 7 cm down the blade, from the cup. 652 g. I’m very pleased to have finished this one. It was quite the experience, and I learned a lot and deeply enjoyed making it, in spite of a lot of unpleasant breakdowns and other tool-related issues. I hope you’ll like it too.
Take me back to the Vikings and Valkyries 😍 Armidale is Australia’s biggest Dark Ages reenacment event, in which there is no general public and it was my first ever strictly Viking / Dark Ages event.
A Single-edged Sword, IX-th-Xth century. Made after sword D.99.9.3 of the Musée Vivant Denon in Châlon-sur-Saône.An intriguing object, rather uncommon : neither a seax nor a single-edged blade fitting in Petersen’s typology for instance. Still, a very stiff blade now showing a distinctive dark edge (see attached pic) thanks to the preservation methods of the Museum, indicating a hardening of the edge only and a high carbon content. The cross and pommel allows a dating to the IX-th-Xth centuries, as swords of this era found locally show similar methods of making for these elements : both are folded over the tang and welded close (see last pic)… Spring steel blade with a differential hardening, old iron cross and pommel folded/Welded over the tang. OAL 813 m with a 663 mm blade, weight is 1052 g.(original is 816mm, and 1049 g). Now at 1450 € plus shipping
A Messer - early XVIth century. High carbon steel blade with old wrought iron cross, Nagel and pommel and curly maple scales with tubular brass rivets. Freely inspired by the drawings of Albrecht Dürer in his Οπλοδιδασκαλια sive Armorvm Tractandorvm Meditatio Alberti Dvreri (“Weapon Training, or Albrecht Dürer’s Meditation on the Handling of Weapons”, MS 26-232), I forged the blade back in 2006 - or was it 2007 ? …. and it had been sitting here and there ever since. I finally managed to finish it… OAL 828 mm with a 640 mm blade (43 mm wide). 1031g. Now at 1250 € plus shipping. Can come with a scabbard and by knife/knives for an extra 400 €

It is true that, in parts of the North, Saxon, Dane and Briton now live side by side, do they not? Oh, they do, but it is the Danes that rule.
