today was the day that (b) was going to introduce me to their grandmother.
we were supposed to meet for lunch, i would get to he restaurant and (b) would come with their nan. this day was extremely important to me, and i wanted to make a good impression and have a nice long lunch with them. so of course, i was very disappointed when as i walked to the entrance of the building, i got a text from (b)
B: Hey! running late sorry! 😬 gonna have to push back lunch for an hour.
Uggghhhh. they always did this, i only had two hours off from work that i begged for and i even gave up vacation days for, and now i have to spend one of them doing nothing.
B: go to the park across the street! meet someone new!
and although i was mad at (b) at the moment, i couldn’t help myself. so i went to the park, walked around for a bit, saw some dogs, some kids playing tag, and a single old woman sitting by a pond, feeding the ducks. ‘meet someone new...’ I approached the bench for two, and stopped when i arrived.
A: Excuse me, do you mind if i sit here for a bit? maybe talk a little?
it was a terrible starting sentence and i felt it. ‘maybe talk a little??’ i was lucky she didn’t mace me right there. But she didn’t, she smiled, she pat the seat next to her and she responded.
L(Lady): Of course, welcome, what’s your name?
with a mental sigh of relief, i sat down with a smile.
L: A very old soul, talking to a very attractive young (pronoun).
A: Oh, thank you haha, so what brings you here today?
L: I come here every day, my husband and i used to walk our dog by the pond, until...
A: Oh...my condolences...
L: Oh no! No! He just got lazy!
A: Oh, we’ll that’s good to hear i guess haha.
L: So what brings you here today?
A: Oh, just enjoying the park.
L: Dressed quite nicely for someone enjoying the park...what are you really doing?
A: You see right through me don’t you? I’m supposed to meet with my (bf/gf/partner) for lunch, i’m supposed to meet their grand mother.
L: Oh how wonderful! I hope you make a good impression. So what is your (partner) like?
A: Honestly, they drive me crazy! they’re always unorganized, and last minute and they always have some complicated scheme going on! And if i’m still being honest. I love them. A lot, with all of their crazy schemes comes an adventure very day, their unorganized behavior and last minute attitude give a spontaneous feeling to our relationship, they’re always so kind and they do whatever they need to make me happy and i want to be able to do that for them, every day of my life...
after a short pause i realized that i just gave this poor woman wayyy too much information.
A: I’m sorry i got a bit carried away ther-
L:Oh no no no! i think it’s wonderful, i think you should marry this (boy,girl,person)! You’re obviously in love!
A: I’m not sure about love...
L: I’ve been married for many years, i forgot how many, but i know love when i hear it. you have to marry them!
I sat there, smiling from ear to ear, i do love them...i do want to marry them...they are my favorite person and i want to spend the rest of my life with them...
A: I actually bought a rin-
My words were ended by a ring from the woman’s bag.
L: Hello? hi yes, we’ve spoke, we’ll come up now.
she stood up and turned to me
A: Well, come along now, we don’t want to be later than (B’s name)
and that killed me. i froze on the spot. I turned to the direction the woman was walking in, and i saw (B) on the phone smiling at me, and waving to their grandmother. I felt betrayed, tricked, bamboozled by one of their schemes.
And yet, i could not have loved them more.
