you’re halfway through organizing a pile of papers when the door behind you opens.
you don’t think much of it at first. probably just another knight or probably someone looking for a report.
so you keep your attention on the mess in front of you until you hear familiar footsteps approaching — slow, calm, and unhurried.
your entire body short-circuits. you whip around so fast you nearly drop everything in your hands. “what- huh?!”
standing there is lohen, looking completely normal. completely calm.
like he didn’t just casually call you sweetheart out of nowhere.

he pauses slightly at your reaction. “…did i make you uncomfortable?”
the question is immediate, genuine enough that your panic disappears almost instantly.
“no! no,” you say quickly, face already burning. “it just caught me off guard.”
lohen studies your expression carefully.
you can practically feel the heat in your face getting worse under his gaze. “…i like it a lot actually,” you admit quieter.
then something soft shifts in lohen’s expression. small and subtle, but definitely there.
you nod immediately, still embarrassed. “yeah, i just wasn’t expecting it.”
lohen seems to think about that for a moment.
your brain stops working for the second time. “…lohen.”
“you reacted the same way again.” he sounds thoughtful.
completely unaware of the effect he’s having on you.
you cover your face with your hands immediately. “you can’t just keep saying it!”
“because it’s embarrassing!”
lohen tilts his head slightly, watching you carefully.
“but you said you liked it.”
you let out a weak noise of frustration because he’s technically right, which only makes this worse.
“i do like it,” you mumble through your hands. “that’s the problem.”
then you hear footsteps approaching again.
before you can react, lohen gently pulls your hands away from your face.
your breath catches instantly.
close enough that your brain struggles to focus properly.
“then i’ll keep saying it,” he says softly, and you can hear the slight teasing in his tone. he’s definitely enjoying this.
your face somehow gets even hotter. “you’re doing this on purpose now.”
you stare at him in shock. “you admitted that way too easily.”
“you’re cute when you get flustered.”
your heart nearly gives out.
you make a genuinely distressed sound this time, immediately turning away while he quietly laughs under his breath.
the fact that he’s clearly enjoying this makes it infinitely worse.
