Roman had been your friend for years now and you’d always had a crush on him since the moment you met, through those years you’d made subtle hints to try and show how you felt about him, secretly longing for him to tell you that he liked you too. He would constantly be bringing home different girls, sometimes he’d even cancel plans or arrive late to see you because he’d been hooking up with a girl. The girls he’d bring home would be so pretty, more often that not have an unbelievable figure and were just all round beautiful creatures.
As the years went on with seemingly no interest from Roman toward you, you’d decided that you weren’t going to tell him how you felt, you didn’t want to ruin the friendship or hear that you weren’t “the kind of girl he was looking for”, bringing your self esteem down to a whole new low. Instead, you decided to put yourself out there in the dating world. In doing so it lead you to meet your boyfriend, a guy that treated you the way you’d longed for Roman to treat you for all those years.
A couple of months into your new relationship and with practically no contact with him other than the occasional “how are you?” text messages, one night, Roman sends you a message and asks to meet up, which you willingly oblige to do, after all, you had missed him. He comes to pick you up and you drive to the dock, sitting in his car and watching the sail boats float by on the ocean just like you used to do together, before you had to tell yourself to let Roman go.
“There’s something I’ve gotta tell you...”, he says to you once you’re face to face. “What’s that?”, you don’t know why but you can suddenly feel your pulse quickening, as if the butterflies in your stomach were not enough. “Look, I know I should have told you sooner but... I... uhm.... ok right look I like you, like a lot... I always have...”.
You can hardly believe what you’re hearing, after all those years of liking him, wishing for him to not be bringing those girls home and for him to tell you that it was you he wanted all along. And now he had. And now you were happy, but not with him, with someone else.
“Roman, I’ve always liked you but you always seemed to have the affection toward someone else at any given time. I even waited around for you, for seven whole years, and not once did I ever stop liking you even when you would cancel plans with me to hook up with someone, or when you would be all over a girl right in front of me. Until now, I’m sorry Roman, but my heart belongs to somebody else now...”
