The drive towards doom meets the drive towards conformity for world safety in opposite directions. The relative power of these forces in the neurology of every consciousness will define the strength and the motivations of each. But when definite sentiments disturb the mentality of the being, they can corrupt their goals for either a short or long time and it’s up to them whether they face the consequences or start back up again to continue achieving the established end results.
“Y/N, we have to go! We won’t be getting out alive if we stay any longer!” Brimstone yelled through the comms.
“We’re nearing the ship,” you grunted with a yelp when Chamber’s limp body almost slipped from your right arm, “just a little more.”. It might have taken a minute or so to get to the aircraft but in the fullness of time you finally made it inside and the ship was ready to take off in a second.
“Cherie, you should not have bothered to take me with you. Because of me, your escape has been delayed and you almost did not make it in time. You should have just left me there.”
“Shut up, I wasn’t going to just leave you to die, okay?” All the medics that were aboard the ship hustled to you and aided in situating Chamber on one of the fixed cots, wasting no time in tending his most dire injuries first.
Throughout his treatment, you watched the medics bustle about around him and kept your eyes peeled on his heartbeat on the monitor. You thought about the possibilities of what could’ve happened if you hadn’t been there when he got shot or if you had left him to die on the sand as you were told to by your commander. All of them were different leading scenarios but the endgame was still the same, and you weren’t one for having that. You knew you were dicing with death but if there was a way to save your league from dying, then you’d find that way, no questions asked.
It wasn’t long before Chamber got patched up and cleaned with the resources and first aid kit the ship had. You found yourself sitting on the seat beside him, both of you smothered with the silence that was beginning to kick in.
“I don’t regret it, you know,” you filled in with a start and an indecisive decision. Chamber turned his head to you and looked at you with the weakest eyes he’s shown.
“What? Helping me?”
“Yeah,” you paused for a split second as you contemplated with this conversation, but you figured you started it anyway, so why not go on with it? “I don’t regret that.”.
Chamber was silent for a moment until you heard him huff a breath before responding with the faintest of smiles, “I know you don’t, mon cher. You are, after all, notorious for your generosity,” causing you to chuckle and furrow the inside of your brows.
“Why do you make it sound like it’s a bad thing?”
“It’s not, don’t get me wrong. It’s just… It’s difficult for us to find people as kind as you, and I rather admire you for that.”
“You know, it’s not that difficult to find the kindness that we crave for.”
“I don’t think you’re getting my point, mademoiselle.”
“What?”
Chamber patted the empty space on the bed beside him, ushering you to sit by him instead. You were confused at such desire but urged yourself to comply anyway and see his intents by yourself. When you did, Chamber took your hands in his and spoke in a way that was audible for only you and him.
“I am an outsider, Y/N, and I feel that that is what they define me as. It’s not that hard to see, they despise me. I am trying my hardest to please them, to live up to their standards, but I know it is going to take a lot more time and effort for them to warm up to me. And I understand that, I really do. But you, Y/N… You surprise me in so many ways. You have learned to accept me as I have with you even if it began with a rocky start. You have helped me throughout this learning process, et je t'en remercie. You are a ray of sunshine, mon cher, I hope you know that.”
You took a moment to process his words, a moment to take in a breath and hold back your tears, and once you’ve finally found your space again, you placed your other hand on top of his and said, “You and I are both outsiders, Vincent, we all are. Everyone in this league, this skirmish is a lost, lonely, and irrelevant outsider. We’re given the choice to prove ourselves right or to uphold the expectations and standards that the modern society thinks are right about us, and you know how they are, and it is our duty to choose whether we face the consequences or fight for ourselves. I’m here to help you out there because I know how they are and because I was in your place once. I’m here as your friend, never forget that.” you squeezed his hand before letting it go and standing up.
“Je connais, thank you, Y/N,” he replied with a smile.
“You’re welcome, just let me know when you need anything. For now, you have to rest. We had a long day.”
“You, too, mon cher. Bonne nuit mon amour.”
You bent down and kissed his nose, “Bonne Nuit mon amour.”.

as a heads up i dont really write for cypher because i dont get him too well but i think cypher is more insecure than yoru when it comes to relationships so he would be a little worried that maybe you'll start to like him. he wouldn't go out of his way to spy on purpose but if he's within earshot when it happens he's gonna get quiet and pay close attention to your reaction, then be relieved when he hears you reject him lol

May I request for HCs for chamber, yoru & phoenix: they’re approached by the mirror selves of their s/o, reaching out for help because their communication devices are damaged. How would they react when they see that the mirror s/o also wears a bracelet or ring, etc that they gave to their real s/o, insinuating that in the other earth, they’re also together? They’re sure it’s not them since their s/o is still talking in the comms. Thanks if you decide to do this :)
For chamber everything clicks together when he sees the bracelet. He has kept you a secret from his double to protect you, while suspecting his double may have been doing the same. Now he knows for certain, and that gives him the upper hand. Even though he hopes he won't need to use this information, he knows he will if things come to that — he would do anything to protect the real you.
Phoenix always thought that it was kind of a miracle that you two ended up together. But seeing the bracelet on your double makes him feel a lot more secure in your relationship. Maybe he wasn't just lucky, after all. Maybe in a way, it was just meant to be.
Yoru on the other hand does not believe in destiny and is very off put by what he saw. He thinks maybe the enemies are trying to play some tricks on him, and he can't stop thinking about the other you for a long while. Is there a way to save them?

Yes I think he thinks about it quite often actually. He wants to give his partner a normal life after all the chaos... but also he knows he's always going to be getting involved in some weird stuff. So it's more of a hope/dream than a real plan. He finds the thought of that scenario comforting when he's going through a hard spot, but of course he will cherish any life you build together, even if it doesn't end up looking like that.

Yesss from his ingame voicelines with his double I take it that Chamber would ultimately fight for the good guys side when push comes to shove. However I'm guessing he has to keep a lot of people in the dark about a lot of things to get to that point safely and ensure a victory and that would sadly include his partner. He knows he doesn't have a right to expect his partner to trust him, because he can't prove his good intentions, but he hopes and prays for you to see through all that and trust him and love him anyway. In return he will do anything he can to make you happy, trying to compensate for the normal life he can't give you, in a way. Expensive gifts, and makeout sessions with the focus on your pleasure. Every day he fears that will be the day you say you can't be in a relationship like that anymore, so he treasures each and every day he has with you and through his romantic gestures, essentially begs you to stay one day more. Just one of the ways I can see this could go.
In his free time I can totally see him playing piano, reading, playing chess, that kind of thing, so he would love it if he can share any of those hobbies with you.

yes definitely! hes so proud of his guns, he wants to show them off and expects you to be impressed. im not sure about on the field though because they're tailored for his playstyle, but he would be happy to design special guns that would be optimal for you, function and design wise

I think at this point, Yoru would just laugh and feel sorry for the guy. He's so openly simping for you, when he doesn't stand a chance. Reply guy energy. Yoru would joke with you about it, asking if you regret saving Chamber's life since he hasn't unstuck from your side ever since.
also am i the only one who thinks that chamber's whole deal (specially with astra but lets be real hes like this with everyone) is a perfect setup for that kind of "i was using you at first but then i ended up genuinely falling for you" stories? except with a twist because i can't really see anyone falling for chamber's act, he's far too obvious. however how cute is it that the person really does end up liking him once he's *not* putting up the act? i need to see that
ok but imagine chamber's mirror self having lost the mirror version of you, and exploding at chamber one day because he can't stand the way that he overlooks you in favor of his work and takes you for granted. chamber doesn't listen until one day when there is a close call where he could have easily lost you and it suddenly hits him. he feels ashamed that it took this much for him to act on his feelings but he finally confesses to you. he holds you and rests his forehead on yours, closes his eyes and lets out a sigh before saying the words. it's a surprisingly small and honest moment, that you will both cherish forever.
Recently saw that Red might not be maining eYoru anymore (cry). So it got me thinking, what if Yoru’s fem s/o was being sent on missions with Chamber now and not Yoru anymore? (They were like the power couple before this so don’t know how hard the new matchup will affect him)
who's red, some youtuber? i think this would get yoru so on edge, he would be terrified that chamber won't be able to protect you like he does, or worse, that he'll willingly sacrifice you like a pawn as part of his bigger picture (i don't think yoru would have a good opinion of chamber at all, he can see through bullshit quite well). he might even go up to chamber before the first mission and threathen him to make sure he brings you back.
chamber can't blame yoru for suspecting him because he is, indeed, up to some very shady stuff. however chamber would never let anything happen to you, because he's fallen for you. i feel like chamber would actually do a full 180 turn on his plans and do anything to protect the person he's fallen in love with if things come to that tbh, even if it's unrequited.
