hihi I’m ashley (she/her) running this blog :p

I have never really been much of an original poster but I am currently writing med school applications and I have this paralyzing fear of writing my personal statement. As a way to overcome that I’m just going to write more, and what better way to do that than write about fandom.

I fear that I have no original thoughts, but I’m going for completed instead of perfection right now.

I adore the hunger games. With every fiber of my being. So many HG thoughts will be here.

Would love to make friends/be mutuals. Ideal world, would love tumblr fame and many friends who love fandom just as much as I do. This world, just happy to get some thoughts out there. I love our silly little world and the connections we make :)

as a kid, I always felt cheated by the madge erasure in the movie. I thought it was so kind for madge to gift her friend a pin from her aunt.

It’s so selfless. on one hand, she wanted keep a family heirloom, maybe one of the few things she still had of her aunt. on the other hand, she wanted her closest friend to have something that reminded her of home even more.

in the book, it’s madge’s aunt’s, maysilee donner’s, pin. crafted from the hands of tam amber and tucked away for years. only for it to come back to its rightful owners hands again. from seam and covey to merchant, back to seam again.

in the movies, prim gives her the pin. it erases all the history and all of the tragedy that followed that pin. if they only knew what that pin has seen..

THE CAPITAL IS SO EVILLL

what do you MEAN, they had 11-18 year olds in an arena killing each other and fighting for their lives, only to have one of them survive and then spend the REST of their lives preparing other kids to do the same. like genuinely what do you mean

in some ways I completely understand the urge to have a capital born hunger games. Some people will truly never understand the emotional distress caused by a situation until it affects them personally. A fact highlighted by the fact that the capital residents will NEVER have to be exposed to the games, no wonder they’ve never thought to think about it. How are they meant to understand the pain, fear, suffering caused by these games when they are so far removed.

But to have another games, for the victors to know exactly what they continue to perpetuate is mind boggling. But then again, I will never understand the trauma of the games and how that changes a person

Mags I miss you

To be around for all 75 years of the game and still treat people kindly. The strawberry ice cream to Haymitch, asking the kids if district 12 what they wanted from the games, volunteering for Annie.

My heart aches for her and Finnick. Mags who has never lived in a world without the games and never got to see a world without the games and Finnick who is left to live with the thoughts that if only he kept her alive a little while longer, she may have been alive to see the world she so desperately fought to see

I’ve recently been on a sourdough kick and I’m just imagining Peeta teaching Katniss how to bake

P: so we have to let it rise for several hours now

K: what do you mean rise, what’s several hours got to do with it

P: well the bacteria in the sourdough will eat the flour and water we put in causing the dough to rise which is what takes time. that’s why we have to feed it

K: were feeding your sourdough?? I thought we just gave it flour and water

P: that’s feeding it

And so on and so forth. I like to think that she tries to get into baking but she thinks it’s like hunting, you have to get into it young otherwise you’ll never get a grasp on it. Also she hates the stickiness and the waiting. She loves the end product though.

Side note, If anyone has any sourdough tips I would lovveee to hear them!

something i love about this fandom is how somehow, someone always has something new to say. what, this series has been going on for 18 years? that's a whole adult bro. The Hunger Games book can vote in america. and yes, it's aided by the fact that Suzanne Collins loves us and is keeping us well fed with content, but still. this fandom is amazing, i would say i hope it never dies but i have no need. i know it never will.

I will NEVER get over the fact that District 11 did the District 12 salute of respect. Never.

Here, you have a District that is stricter than 12. While the peacekeepers in 12 shop at the Hob and turn a blind eye to Katniss's hunting, they shoot kids in District 11 for eating the food they harvest.

You have a District that has already given to much to Katniss, in spite of the Capital. They have given their children, they have given their bread. And now, they give their respect.

Not just their respect, but their compassion. For them to learn what that salute means in District 12, and use it to honor this girl who came back instead of their own children makes me choke up each time.
