Ever since you met Ponyboy Curtis, were never the same. He occupied your thoughts far more than they should have. Sure, it might've been overwhelming, but he was just so shy and cute! You couldn't help but try and break him out of his shell. Everybody knew that he was your crush. Until he wasn't. Because after several interactions, you view of him changes. Your view of everything changes.

Other important notes ~

~ Most of the fics I write with this series will be based HEAVILY off the book/movie Flipped! They will be in an order, like how @callme-holly has done her Dallas and Darry series.

~ In this, the Curtis' parents are alive and well, but they're going to bumped up to a more Soc-leaning class -- as will the other members of the gang -- so I can keep the meaning and impact behind one key event in Flipped as it's translated to the fic.

~ I highly recommend you watch Flipped before you read this series!! That way, you'll understand it a hell of a lot more.

~ On that note, there are several Flipped characters who are being given The Outsiders counterparts; Garret will be Curly, Sherry/Shelly Stalls will be Cherry Valance, and Eddie/John Trulock will be a random guy since I can't think of a character to be him :P

~ Another thing only those who have seen the movie or read the book will get, but in the case of Daniel, Juli/reader's uncle, I will try my HARDEST to make sure I portray that arc and character in a respectful manner (and not use the R-Slur).

~ I will be having the whole series be set where Ponyboy and Reader are in the 8th grade, like in the book/movie, so they'll be around 14.

~ Again, I BEG you guys to watch the movie! It's literally my #1 comfort movie, I've seen it nearly 50 times, it's just so good and so cute!!

how people look at me when i say my favorite book is ‘flipped’ (a romance book for middle schoolers) but they don’t understand how beautifully it tackles family dynamics and class differences and the struggle of realizing your parents who you’ve idolized your whole life are assholes and you’ve inherited their hatred. and how hard it can be to change and to look inside yourself and come to the conclusion you don’t like what there. and how forgiveness is important because people make mistakes and it’s never to late to be better. but also how even the best parents can fuck up and aren’t perfect and even nice people can be judgmental and unforgiving.

yes bryce was a coward! he was a dick! but that’s the POINT!! he’s trying to be better!!! he’s unlearning his fathers hatred!!! he was THIRTEEN!!! and he wanted his father to be proud of him so he did and believed everything he did, but in the end he realized he didn’t want to be like his father!!!! because his father was miserable and cruel and not just to the Bakers but to Bryce’s mother and sister and Bryce!!!! NO BRYCE LOSKI HATE ALLOWED!!!!

and honestly, you can see (especially in the book) that he ALWAYS liked and admired juli. even when he hated her, he would feel bad for her and want to help her but he was too afraid. he was afraid of what people thought and because his father hated the Bakers and thought they were trash, he thought him liking Juli would mean there was something wrong with him. that he was less than. but in the end he stopped caring about what other people thought and admitted to himself that he liked Juli and there was nothing wrong with that or her and that’s NOT EASY TO DO!!! HE WAS A CHILD!!!!

we must allow people to grow!!! especially young people!!!! YOU ARE NOT YOUR PARENTS!!!! like yeah it seems like the bare minimum, but it’s not fucking easy to go against the beliefs of your parents, and even harder to go against your FRIENDS!! garret was his only friend but he realized Garrett was wrong and STOOD AGAINST HIM!!! he very well could have ended up friendless having to live with a father who despised him but he went against them anyway!!!

and this is why forgiveness and acceptance is important! you can’t expect people to change and be better but then shun them and punish them for their past when they do!!!

Just rewatched Flipped, and here's some of my takeaways

In the year of our Lord and Savior 2025, it hurt my soul watching Bryce toss out all those eggs

I want some chickens so I can have my own eggs

"She fell first, he fell harder" is one of my favorite tropes

If I use my super cool mind powers hard enough, I can imagine this movie is about Schroeder and Lucy

On that note, I now have a lot of schrucy ideas

niches reference but Katniss talking about peeta’s blond eyelashes reminds me of Juli baker from Flipped and how she wonders about how Bryce’s ear lobe fuzz can be so blond
