HELLO we don’t care how old this is holy shit this is so awesome. There needs to be more of him crawling around like a fucking weirdo we love him so muchhh
ok real talk i have NOT seen the show in full, bc its on none of the streaming services i own (i do have netflix but im canadian and for some reason they dont have it on there) HOWEVERRRRR i have seen multiple clips on the internet, and my brain has been infested with the alan tudyk brainworms so. yeah.
anyways this is Ashley Lewis, but they like to go by "Ash"!! they live in their little volkswagen minibus on the outskirts of town and are never seen without having eyes drier than the atacama. although, any and all inspections for any substances they might have in their possession all go nowhere as they never end up finding anything. hmmm, i wonder why...
which reminds me, i have a little bit (its actually a lot) of fanspecies lore under the cut 👀 (warning for mentions of drug usage under the cut)
the Antennae are a race of insectoid aliens who are descended from lepidoptera. they are known for their small stature which, on the rare occasion, gets them mistaken for actual butterflies and moths, and their long thin antennas that emit colorful pollen specs which mimic the effects of psychedelics once inhaled. if the antennas are concealed by wearing a head covering of sorts (hats, helmets, bandanas, etc.) there's nowhre for the pollen to go, so they end up affecting the Antennae themselves.
another known fact about the Antennae is that they weren't always so miniscule. over a millenia ago, they were once ruthless creatures who stood at towering heights (9-10ft) and had carnivorous diets that consisted of other alien species, sometimes even their own. seeing how dangerous they were, the galactic council managed to exile them to another planet in a far off galaxy, one that consisted of mainly vegetation and plantlife.
knowing that this was their only source of actual food, and that trying to eat each other wasn't the best idea at the moment, their diets made a drastic change, along with their evolution and their intellect. in the span of the next century they built their own monarchy, built their own homes, and lived peacefully amongst each other.
howeverrrr, the Antennae still held their grudge against the council for their exile, and wish to prove themselves to them so they can be reaccepted back into alien society. fortunately with their newfound intelligence, they've found ways to sneak into their meetings, both from afar (by hiding in the walls) and up close, by burrowing into the brains of others and piloting them. only problem with being up close is that for some reason, their antennas poke out of the top of their hosts heads, which'll expose them immediately, so the only resolution is to cover them up (which is another problem on its own.)
at some point, a spy catches wind of the plan to send a certain extra terrestrial down to earth so that they can destroy the planet, which the Antennae found as a perfect opportunity. so, they appointed one of their own to perform the same task and succeed in it before the other operative. which is, of course, when "Ash" comes in.
their lore might still need a bit of polishing left to do, and i'll try make more lore posts in the future regarding "Ash"'s backstory (maybe even their host's) but yeah hope yall enjoyed my ramblingz
collie parker called out for mcvries when he shot the soldier ☹️☹️☹️ the only other boy he thought would want to help him didnt ☹️☹️☹️ he took his own life so the soldiers couldnt take it from him ☹️☹️☹️ he tried to start a rebellion but the other boys just kept walking ☹️☹️
#collie being native despising the system yet needing to join the walk to propel his life forward finding that solidarity with the other boys#so much so that they believed the others would join him in rebelling yet they all kept walking#despite a shared struggle and hardship that was living in this world the other boys of all different races and ethnicities from different#from different states kept walking! there’s so many native deaths and disappearances and hardship that is ignored. I don’t think the boys#ignored collies death but that plea from him for revolution goes ignored#I think of all the enviormental activism from native Americans that will get moment every once in a while but ultimately is forget#how so many native people put in the work but remain unrecognized like ultimately collies death was one of the many that day and will go on#to be if the walk continues every year which we don’t get a clear answer for#there’s also something about the choice of collie being Native American in the movie in connection to King writing this book during the 60s#during the Vietnam war and also the time period of a lot of social civil activism from not only African Americans and women but natives too#I had no clue the red power movement was even a thing till I was specifically assigned a project on a specific activist in college#anyway I haven’t read the book nor do I feel like I articulated any of this properly as it’s 4am rn but tried my best#also shoutout John Trudell
#reblogging again with your tags because they add so much#it's extra heartwrenching/kind of infuriating because pete eventually does attempt a revolutionary act by shooting the major!!!#he realizes the system cannot be changed from within and shoots the major out of love for ray but he couldn't find that will before#nobody could do that for collie#and maybe if pete had answered collie's call he'd never have had to lose ray in the first place#there's something there for sure#something very specific to indigeneity#collie parker#one of my friends once told me being indigenous & an activist is kinda like being a canary in a coal mine#only at least with canaries in coal mines ppl pay attention to the dead bird and change course#—#I had never heard that canaries in a coal mine expression but it does fit so well with this topic#and there is absolutely something there that it took Rays love and story to change Pete’s perspective to get him to go through w/ rebellion#that even though the system didn’t work for him before his childhood his parents passing the drunk uncle? the foster system#he still had some kind of hope in the world#constrasted with collie who kind of knew from the beginning that system doesn’t work#I haven’t read the book so idk and haven’t rewatched the film since my first watch but don’t we see collie spit at the cop that came to see#them walk? there is already a hatred for this system an urge to rebel perhaps already planned#or at least thought about before that he believes with the rest of the boys on his side it could be accomplished#but that canary goes overlooked it tries to fly out the mine because of the bad air quality yet the miners think we can still make it#a little longer take a chance to mine more for the man before coming up for clear air#they can keep walking further they’ve made it all this way they have to go further for just a bit longer#they have to hear the shot ring out and keep walking#see the bird fall and keep mining#for their wish#for gold or oil or whatever else you mine for that eventually becomes riches#riches over human life your own and others because that gets you out of the mine it gets you out of the system#supposedly#we see in the end regardless the winner is haunted and forever changed

i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.
as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”
small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.
i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.
" 11 VOYAGER ROAD"
I had some problems exporting this animation (file too large), so it's not really the right colors, I'll see if I can find a solution for later..
