Hi there, here is the FAQ for the DCA Cook Book Zine!
We will keep this updated as best we can. It is incredibly early days so a lot has not been worked out yet, I can give a vague idea though.
What’s this fanzine about?
Well this zine is about our beloved Daycare Attendants Sun, Moon and Eclipse. The theme will be a cookbook with the theme of Alternative Universes (AU). We'll follow Chef Sun and his Sous Chef Moon as they explore the DCA multiverse making and even learning new recipes with these New Friends!
What rating will the zine be?
PG, and SFW! There will be no NSFW content featured in the zine at all. (it's a cookbook come on.)
Yes absolutely! One of the main focuses of this zine is to showcase everyone's AUs. Any AU versions of Sun, Moon, Eclipse (ruin or arcade) and/or Jack-o-Moon and Jack-o-Sun would be welcome in the zine.
Will Canon DCA be Included?
Yes of course. Your versions of Canon DCA can be included.
Will there be any ships/pairings be included?
No I don't think relationships or pairings is the route we'd like to take with the zine, although some characters/AU's may be in relationships or not in their own respective stories, they will not be featured. The focus is on the Daycare Attendants, not their ships.
Will other canon characters, self inserts of OCs be included?
This is a tricky one, I'd like to say no, only characters that are DCA will be featured, but I'm also inclined not to be too strick with this though, as long as the extra characters have been approved by the Mods and the focus continues to be the DCA.
Will this zine be for profit?
No… but also yes.
By that I mean there shouldn't be much in the way of profits as I'm hoping to release the zine with next to nothing on the profit margins, but there might be a small amount of profits made. I'd like this zine to be as accessible to all so I hope to be able to charge only enough to cover the actual products. If any profit is to be made It will be shared between all contributors But do not expect much. (I am not above the idea of sending pennies to all the contributors if that's all we make)
Who will be contributing to this zine?
The numbers we'll need are yet to be calculated but we'll be looking for:
Artists for full page rendered art pieces ( 3000×3000px 300dpi)
Artists for smaller pieces and decorations for the zine pages
Artists for Merchandise
Animation Artists for advertising (nothing big 15-80 frames-ish)
Writers for short stories (500-1k)
Proofreaders
Recipe writers
Cooks for Recipe testing and photography
Editors/designers
What are the general requirements for a contributor?
I wish I didn't have to put an age restriction on the zine (fandom fun for everyone!) but if we did end up making any profit It wouldn't sit right with me to go under the minium working age. Where I live (UK) that's 13 but it's different in many countries. So If you are over 13 AND over the working age in your country feel free to join but please do not let this project get in the way of your school work.
You will need discord, as most of the planning and organising will be done there but any important information and or deadline notifications will be sent by e-mail.
Portfolio...kind of - In the application there will be places to add links for art, writing and/or food photography. If you could link art and writings about the DCA that would be great.
In case any profit is made (which again it probably won't) You will need something like PayPal or Ko-Fi so you can receive your share.
Do I need to know how to cook?
No, (unless you want to be apart of the recipe team then at least a little) the recipe team will handle any cooking involved. You can come up with ideas but if you can't/don't want to cook then the recipe testers can handle that.
Do I have to have my own AU?
No, There will be spaces for canon Sun and Moon and there will be spaces for artists who would like to draw other's characters. And writers who'd like to write for other peoples characters as well.
Will mods be allowed to contribute to the zine?
Yes of course, I'd hate to deprive you of that, just as long as you'd like too and it's not too much work for you.
Will this zine be physical or digital?
Both! I hope, I will do everything in my power to get it available in physical form, I'm also hoping we can offer options for merch too ^-^
Are contributors allowed to collaborate?
Absolutely, In fact I'd love that. This project is all about collaborating.
Will contributors receive a free copy of the zine?
Digital, definitely. Physical… I really hope so but it will depend on the success of the zine, though it will most likely have to be the cheapest version available for example the paperback rather then a hardback version as I'll have to pay for it out of pocket.
Soon, I don't want to rush into this too fast but hopefully with in the month. (before February is over)
Can I apply for more than one role?
Yes you can apply for as many roles as you'd like, but depending on how many applicants we get will depend on if you will be chosen for all those rolls or just one.
If you're accepted for more then one roll you may decline as many or few as you like. Say you apply for all roles, get accepted for all but decide that's too much of a work load and you'd only like to draw and write that's perfectly OK.
How long will I have to complete my piece if I’m selected?
This is a hard one to answer right now, but the short answer 6-12 months.
We will probably have all accepted applicants join the server no matter their roll at the beginning, for the planning stage.
I would like this project to be as collaborative as possible. I'm hoping to craft a story through said art and writing with the community. It might not be the traditional way to go about it but I want this to be a big group project.
Also with it being a cookbook, a lot more time and work will be needed for the recipes but we'd like the artist and writers there for brainstorming and planning because I'm hoping we can craft or adapt recipes that go well with Your characters. Rather then slap your characters onto random unrelated recipes.
